Roommates“Why can’t you just move in with me?” Sunhee asked her friend.
“Because, I just moved in with my boyfriend.” Yoona said with a smile. “You should get one for yourself, you know?”
“I don’t have time for a boyfriend right now. I am almost done with my internship and, if I want to get hired when it is up, I need to focus on my job and not on some guy.” Sunhee reminded her friend for the thousandth time.
“I know!” Yoona gasped suddenly, her eyes brightening. “There’s this guy at the company I’m interning for that is looking for a new place to live. Maybe he could move in with you?”
Sunhee glared at her friend. “You think I’m going to let a man live with me? I’m not that kind of girl.”
“He’s gay.” Yoona said with a smirk as she smugly folded her arms across her chest looking like she'd just single-handedly remedied the crisis of world hunger rather than helping a friend resolve a small setback in life. “Problem solved.”
Sunhee thought about it for a moment. “Okay, but I want to meet him first.”
Yoona nodded. “I’ll ask him to lunch tomorrow.”
Sunhee couldn’t help but admire the man sitting across from her. Why were the good-looking ones always gay or taken? He had to be the most handsome man she’d ever seen.
“It’s nice to meet you.” The man said reaching his hand out across the table. “I’m Kim Himchan.”
Sunhee shook his hand. “Lee Sunhee.” She said in return.
“So, Yoona says you are looking for a roommate?” He said with a smile. “I was a little surprised that a woman would want to live with a man she doesn’t know.” He said taking a sip of his coffee.
“Well, like I told Sunhee,” Yoona piped in, “it won’t be a problem since your gay.”
Himchan choked on his drink. “Excuse me?”
“I’m sorry, I thought you were open about it?” Yoona explained. “I didn’t mean to offend you.”
Himchan shook his head. “Where did you hear I was gay?”
“Well, everyone at work knows.” Yoona said with a shrug of her shoulders.
“Everyone?” He asked with wide eyes. He shook his head, mumbling under his breath. “I can’t believe this...”
“Well, it does make things easier for this situation.” Yoona said.
“How so?” He asked with the raise of a brow.
“I know you won’t try to put the moves on my best friend. It will be like she is living with a brother.” Yoona explained.
“A brother?” Himchan repeated.
Yoona nodded. “Exactly.” She said happily. “See, this is perfect.”
Himchan’s eyes shifted to Sunhee. “And what do you think about this?” He asked.
Sunhee looked away from his intense stare; she didn’t know why, but his eyes made her uncomfortable. “I’m okay with it if you are.”
Himchan nodded. “Alright. I accept. I’ll move in this evening if that is okay with you?”
Sunhee looked up at him and gave a small smile. “Of course.”
Yoona clapped her hands. “Like I said, perfect.” She then sighed. “You know it’s really too bad you’re gay. It would be absolutely perfect if you were straight and could be Sunhee’s boyfriend. She needs one. The poor thing has never had one and…”
“Yah!” Sunhee exclaimed, cutting her friend off.
Himchan simply smiled. “I suppose that would be perfect, wouldn’t it?” He said causing the two women to look at him, his eyes on Sunhee. “But, like you said, it’s really too bad.” He said with a sly smile.
Sunhee felt a shiver run up her spine. She didn’t know why, but she felt like there was more to his words than what they were hearing. She really hoped that she wouldn’t regret this decision.
