Jessica's POV

I cried myself silently to sleep.

No matter how many times I wanted to hate my dad.

I couldn't.

I just couldn't.

Before he left me and my mom he was the best dad ever.

Every night he would check under my bed and in my closet for 'monsters'.

He would be there when kids bullied me and called me fat, then he would tell me I was "beautiful" as he wiped the tears off my little face.

He would give me good morning and good night kisses on my forehead.

And when I was scared he would be there to protect me.

When he left me I had to be independent.

It hurt.

I hugged the blanket tighter around my body as I cried.

I heard the door open and I stopped my tears and wiped them quickly.

"Unnie, I can't sleep." I heard Krystal call out.

I wiped my face, clear of any evidence that I had cried and turned to her.

I reached my arm out for her, "Come here." I said.

She laid beside me and snuggled into my chest while I hugged her protectively.

I Krystal's black hair until her breathing steadied, indicating she was sleeping.

My tears came back immediately as I thought about my dad.

I fell back asleep as a last tear fell down my face.

For the first time I didn't wake up to smelling alcohol.

I lazily opened my eyes and saw Krystal snuggling her head into my neck.

I kissed the crown of her forehead before quietly sitting up.

I sat in the desk, looking for more jobs.

"WAITERS AND WAITRESSES NEEDED" it read.

I circled the job and read the details.

"PAYS 20$ PER HOUR, 5 HOURS PER DAY, 5 DAYS A WEEK" Hmm, that's pretty good.

I read the phone number and adress and wrote it down on a sheet of paper before sticking it into my pocket.

I quietly opened the door and peeked my head out, as it was still early and I didn't want to wake anyone.

I saw the elderly butler and I called him over, "Excuse me?" I called politely.

He immediately walked over to my room, "Yes miss? How may I help you?"

I smiled at him warmly, "Call me Jessica, and could you get the home phone for me so I could make a call?"

He nodded, "Yes ma'aa--- I mean, Yes, Jessica."

He came back later with the home phone and handed it to me before walking away.

I closed my bedroom door before calling the work place where I was applying to.

"Hello this is SM Cafe, how may I help you?" a soft voice said.

"Hello, I am here to apply as a waitress." I replied.

"Oh okay, you just need to tell me your name and age, then we can meet up later and I'll teach you the basics."

"My name is Jessica Jung, and I am 17." I said.

"Okay Jessica, if you can, please come to the cafe at 1." the voice said.

"Okay, thank you!" I said before hanging up.

I looked at the clock, 9 AM.

I walked out of my room and found the butler.

I handed him the home phone. "Ah, is everything okay?" he asked.

I nodded, "Yes, if you don't mind, at 1 can you bring me somewhere?" I asked politely.

He nodded, "Sure Jessica, may I ask where?"

"SM Cafe, I got a job." I replied.

He nodded.

"If you need anything don't be afraid to call out." he said before continuing to clean up the house.

I walked back to my room and into the bathroom that was connected to it.

I brushed my brown hair, making it straight as my bangs fell to the side.

I brushed my teeth and changed into jeans and a white shirt.

I walked into my room and saw Krystal still sleeping, it was 10 AM already.

I walked closer and saw that she was crying silently as she slept.

I gasped lightly and sat next to her on the bed, taking her face in my hands.

Using my thumbs, I wiped away the tears that seemed to continuously fall down her face.

"Mom.." she mumbled.

She kept crying until she woke up, sitting up abruptly as she sweat.

Only 7 years old and this is happening..

I pulled her closer and let her cry on my shoulder.

"Why did she leave Unnie?" she sobbed.

"Shhh." I cooed, rubbing her back.

Thankfully Krystal couldn't see my tears falling.

When Krystal finally calmed down I pulled away from her and looked at her.

"Unnie, why are you crying?" she asked.

I quickly wiped my tears. "Aniya, something was in my eye." I lied.

She seemed to believe me as she went into the bathroom and did her business.

I looked at the clock, 12.

I walked over to the bathroom, "Krystal, Unnie is going out for alittle okay? Be a good girl."

"Okay" she chirped.

I smiled before walking out of the room, bumping into Yuri.

"Sorry," I said coldly before walking off to find the Butler.

I saw him in the kitchen, watching the chefs cook.

He saw me and smiled, "Hello Jessica." he called out.

"Hello, can you give me that ride now?" I asked.

He nodded, "follow me."

I followed him into the car and he drove off to SM Cafe.

When we arrived he asked me, "Want me to wait outside?"

I nodded, "Yes please. I'll be quick." I said before scurrying into the cafe.

As I entered the bell chimed, indicating the door opened.

"Hello, welcome to SM Cafe. How can I help you?" a short girl asked me as she was standing behind the counter.

"Hello, I am here for the job." I said to her.

"Ah, you must be Jessica, right?" she asked.

I nodded.

She extended her hand for me to shake. I shook her hand, "I'm Kim Taeyeon." she introduced herself. "I am the owner of the cafe." she said.

I nodded, "So when do I start?"

"Now." she said.

My eyes winded, "Now?"

She laughed loudly, like a middle-aged woman.

Soon, I found myself smiling, her happiness was contagious.

After she stopped laughing she used her finger to remove the tears that were in her eye after crying.

"Oh man, you should've seen your face. But really, you can start tomorrow at 4 PM and you end at 9 PM. Your break will be at 6 and it will end at 7." she explained after she calmed herself.

I nodded, "Thank you."

I left the cafe, smiling, knowing that I got a job to earn money.

I entered the car. "You seem happy." the old man said.

"I got the job." I smiled.

He chuckled a hearty laugh and drove off.
