There When You Weren't

Your Fault

Jessica's POV

---

"Yuri, I'm just going to get a drink of water, that's it." I said to her as I sat up.

"Your stomach is covered in bruises, you're going to be in pain when you walk." she said as she held onto my wrist softly.

I looked at her, "Yul, I'll be fine." I assured.

She sighed, "Be quick, I'll be in Krystal's room." she said.

I nodded and began to slowly walk to the kitchen.

As I walked I heard loud talking.

"You have to tell her sooner or later." the voice said, it sounded like my step-mom.

I walked closer to the voices.

"It's best that she doesn't know." my dad said.

"The poor girl is covered in bruises, why won't you just tell her the truth?" step-mom said.

I walked to the door where the voices were coming from and opened it without knocking.

"What truth?" I asked.

Both of them looked at me.

My dad was sitting at his office chair and my step-mom sat in front of him.

"Oh, Uh, Jessica. You're here." dad stuttered.

"What truth?" I said coldly, glaring at my dad.

"Jessica, why don't you sit?" step-mom said.

I sat on the chair next to step-mom, clenching my fists.

"What truth." I said through clenched teeth.

"Jessica, you're mom isn't dead." dad said.

I looked at him, surprised.

Then I grew angry.

"Why did they tell me she was dead?"

"I asked them to do it, I just wanted to see you and Krystal.." he said softly.

"What did you do with mom?" I said angrily.

"She's probably at your old home." he said, looking down.

I clenched my fist and got up.

"What did you do to let her give us up?" I said to him.

"I gave her money.." he said, looking at the ground.

My eyes burned in fury, "Money?! You gave her money?! Are you kidding?! Don't you know she is an alcoholic? She's addicted! Why would you give her more money to spend on alcohol?!"

Suddenly my dad looked up, I was taken aback at how angry he looked.

"Why do you care so much about her? She beat you. She was drunk all the time. She brought men home. She gave you guys up because of money!" he said.

I thought about it before answering.

"She was there when you weren't."

And with that, I left the room.
