Jerk much?

Second Chance

Chapter 4

Taeyeon wiggled her arms hoping to loosen the rope. To her disappointment, the rope barely budged. Not working! She pulled one arm one way and the other in the opposite direction. Come on! Work! She pulled again and again and again. Grrrr!Unfortunately, her wrists are still bound together. No matter how much force or effort she puts in, nothing seems to be working. Her wrists were already red and soar from all of the pulling she had done in the past twenty minutes. This is futile! I give up!Taeyeon huffed and slumped back down on the chair. There was nothing she could do now to escape from the tight binding.

Taeyeon sat there and moped about what just happened twenty minutes ago. Seriously, Jessica always overreacts. All she did was drape her arm across her waist, by accident, might she add. It’s not like I her or anything! Plus, it’s not like she knew she had sleep walking issues in the past! How in the world was she supposed to know she’ll just up and walk to her bedroom!? Her memories were wiped away for crying out loud! I can’t believe she’s blaming me for something I can’t control! Now I’m stuck here with my wrists bound to a rope, which she conveniently tied to one of the chairs in the dining room! Great!

*sighI’m never getting out of here, Taeyeon thought bitterly. *sigh* Might as well get comfortable since I’m not going anywhere.Taeyeon shifted to a more comfortable position, resting her head on top of the back of the chair. Ah~ feels nice.

Taeyeon sat there for a while, just staring at the living room. Soon, her eyelids began to droop. Before she knew it her eyes were closed and she slowly, but surely, drifted off to dreamland.

Half way in to her slumber, Taeyeon felt a strange breeze of cool air brush upon her left cheek making her shiver in response. She shifted on her seat and turned the other way, pulling her hoodie along over her head. As soon as she was starting to drift back to sleep another wisp of cool air brushed against her face, but this time on her right cheek. Ugh, did Jessica leave the window open? She thought, her eyes still closed.

Then, all of a sudden, a ghostly voice called her name.

“Taeyeon-ah…”

What the…?

Taeyeon-ah…”

The voice cooed once again.

“Taeyeon-ah~”

Ok, its official, the name calling is seriously freaking her out! The tiny hairs on her arms have already risen! And the chilly air is really worsening the whole situation!

She was reluctant to open her eyes, afraid that she might see a ghost. She’s never been very fond of ghosts. She’s-- Hold up! Why in the world am I scared of ghosts!? I’m a freaking ghost- I mean spirit for crying out loud!

Taeyeon mentally face palmed herself. Might as well get this over it. She slowly opened her right eye to survey the dining room area. But as soon as she opened them, two pairs of floating eyeballs welcomed her. Her other eye instantly snapped open and both her eyes widened in shock. She opened to scream but long slender fingers made its way over , silencing her.

“Hmhpndpmd!!!” Taeyeon struggled within the tight hold of the person’s hand.

“What did you say?”

Taeyeon rolled her eyes before biting the other person’s hand.

“Oww!!! What was that for!?” The other girl pouted as she gingerly massaged her now throbbing palm.

“What the hell Sooyoung!” Taeyeon hissed silently under her breath, knowing that the brunette was sleeping just down the hall.

“What?” Sooyoung asked innocently.

Sunny couldn’t help but giggle at the sight of an angry Taeyeon and a pain stricken Sooyoung. This sure was a rare sight to witness. Never did she ever think that the timid ghost she met not too long ago had spunk in her. And the fact that she made the shikshin pout was a great accomplishment. Sunny has made Sooyoung angry countless of times in the past, but she never made her pout cutely like this. Very rare sight indeed.

“What are you two doing here anyway?” Taeyeon arched a brow.

“We came to your rescue!” Sunny clapped enthusiastically.

“Yeah, what she said.” Sooyoung said pointing at Sunny.

Taeyeon rolled her eyes. Somehow Taeyeon didn’t believe that they only came here for such a reason. There’s definitely an ulterior motive. “No, really, why are you guys here?”

Sunny pouted, a bit offended that Taeyeon didn’t believe her. “We told you, we’re here to help you!”

“Help me with what?”

“Well for starters, with this.” Sooyoung snapped her fingers and the rope binding Taeyeon’s wrists together disappeared into thin air.

“Woah! Finally! Thanks Sooyoung!” Taeyeon said gratefully as she massaged her sore wrists. Sooyoung just grinned triumphantly at her efforts.

“Is that all the reason why you two decided to visit me today, to free me from the rope?”

Sunny shook her head. “Nope. But we are here to remind you about the second condition.”

Oh sh*t! Did they find out about the kiss…?

“And to answer your question, yes, Tae Tae. We do know about the kiss, hence the reason why we are here to remind you of the second condition…oh and of course to reprimand you! Shame on you Kim Taeyeon!” Sunny flew directly in front of Taeyeon, flicking her finger hard on Taeyeon’s forehead.

“Owww! What is it with everyone and being violent today?” Taeyeon complained.

Geez, and I thought Jessica was the only violent person here.

“You know you weren’t supposed to do that! How could you kiss Jessica? She’s your mission!” Sunny said angrily.

“But she’s the one who kissed me!” Taeyeon reasoned.

“Yeah, but you could have pushed her away! Why did you have to continue kissing her, huh?”

“I-”

Taeyeon was speechless. She didn’t know what came over her either. She didn’t know why she did that. All she knew is that she felt some sort of unknown force drawing her close to the younger girl. And before she knew it, she was already too lost in the kiss to even think about pulling away.

“I—she--but there’s no harm done! It’s not like I fell in love with her or anything!” Taeyeon said defensively. She looked away blushing furiously as she thought about the heated kiss she had with the brunette that morning.

Sunny drew her face close to Taeyeon’s, narrowing her eyes at her. Taeyeon looked up meeting Sunny’s intense gaze, which made her feel even more uncomfortable. For some reason she felt like a kid who just got caught stealing from a cookie jar. After a few more seconds of staring, Taeyeon finally cracked and broke the eye contact, diverting her eyes to the ceiling.

“Tsk. You better not!” Sunny retorted as she drew back from Taeyeon’s face.

Sooyoung flew next to Sunny, resting her elbow comfortably on her shoulder. She placed her other hand on her hips and gave Taeyeon a stern look. “But seriously Tae, you can’t fall in love with her. Not only is it because it’s the second condition, but also because it wouldn’t do the two of you any good. So please, make sure you don’t fall in love with her and please don’t do anything that will make her fall in love with you.”

“I-I won’t.” Taeyeon said in a small voice. She really wasn’t sure why they were telling her all of these things. Why in the world would she fall in love with Jessica? They hate each other. Didn’t the events today proved how incompatible they are for each other? And plus they’re both…girls. That’s just wrong, so wrong. How could they even think of such things?

“Is that all you came to tell me?” Taeyeon asked trying to divert the subject.

“Yeah, that’s pretty much it. Right Soo?”

The shikshin nodded.

“Ok, I guess we’ll be going now. Remember Tae Tae, just focus on your missions and before you know it, you’ll be a human again! Good luck! Bye Taeyeon-ah!”

The two waved goodbye one last time before a spur of bright light engulfed the two of them. When the light receded, everything was once again swallowed by the darkness and Taeyeon found herself standing alone in the middle of the room.

-----------------

“There she is!” Taeyeon said pointing at a tall, lean young woman waving goodbye to two other girls. Once the girls were gone, Taeyeon and Jessica jumped out of the bush and silently tip toed their way towards the girl. Well, Taeyeon tip toed while Jessica dragged her feet.

The duo continued to follow the unsuspecting girl throughout the town for a good hour. Taeyeon didn’t find it peculiar at all and thought that the young girl just likes to walk around. Jessica, however, was starting to think something was up. But instead of saying something, she just continued to play along.

“Hide!”

Taeyeon suddenly hissed, quickly jumping behind a mailbox to take cover. When she noticed Jessica just standing there she quickly grabbed her wrist pulling her down with her behind the mailbox. Unfortunately, she tugged on her arm with too much force causing Jessica to almost fall.

“What the heck!?” Jessica complained as she hit Taeyeon hard on the arm for almost dislocating her shoulder.

“Sorry!” Taeyeon apologized quickly before the brunette could hit her again. Jessica just glared at her.

After apologizing for the umpteenth time, Taeyeon finally poked her head out from behind the mailbox to check if the coast was clear. She frowned when she realized that the girl they were following a minute ago had disappeared out of sight. Taeyeon began to panic.

“We lost her! What are we going to do now!? Nooooo! This is not good! Code red! Code red!”

Jessica just rolled her eyes.

Taeyeon scrambled up from behind the mailbox and speed walked towards the end of the block, while Jessica followed silently behind her. Taeyeon was about to turn at the corner of the convenient store when suddenly someone jumped out in front of her. It was the girl they were tailing not too long ago.

“Why are you following?” The girl asked as she crossed her arms and glared at the fidgeting Taeyeon and then at the bored looking Jessica.

“Err…”

“Who are you two?” She questioned.

“We are…uhh…” Taeyeon glanced at Jessica for help. Jessica gave her the don’t-forget-about-what-we-talked-about look. Taeyeon nodded in understanding.

“Erm…so we are…uh…we are…we are FBI AGENTS!” Taeyeon exclaimed happily.

Jessica literally face palmed herself.

“FBI agents…?” The girl arched a brow suspiciously.

“Yeah…haha…haha.” Taeyeon laughed awkwardly. She gave the girl her cutest and biggest smile she could muster up, hoping it’ll convince her.

The girl’s expression immediately softened at the adorable sight before her. “Awww! What a cute little girl! Come here!” She bent down and pinched Taeyeon’s cheeks with both hands. Taeyeon watched in horror as the girl continued to abuse her now swollen cheeks. Jessica on the other hand was trying hard to stifle her laugh. This has got to be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen! She thought to herself.

After she was done pinching Taeyeon’s cheeks, she patted her on the head and took out two lollipops form her pocket. “Here you go. Now go take your friend and go play secret agents at the playground because unnie needs to go do something. Bye, bye!”

The two watched incredulously as the other girl skipped merrily away.

“Did she just mistake me as a kid?” Jessica asked in amazement.

“I know right! How could she think I was a ‘little girl?’ ” Taeyeon pouted.

“I could understand her mistaking you for a little kid, but me? How is that possible?”

“Hey!” Taeyeon glared angrily at the Jessica, but she was completely ignored. Jessica was still in her own little world.

“How could she mistake me for a kid? I’ve got meat in all of the right places! And my curves, my killer curves, how could she not see them?! This is outrageous!” Jessica stomped her foot angrily at an innocent bug.

Taeyeon rolled her eyes. Gosh, she’s so full of herself. And here I thought she was actually concerned about me. Of course she was only thinking about herself. Taeyeon clicked her tongue disapprovingly.

“Jessica-sshi, we need to think of a new plan. Clearly this one didn’t work.”

Jessica turned her gaze at Taeyeon and glared at her. “And whose fault was it that this plan didn’t work?”

“What did I do?” Taeyeon asked innocently.

Jessica let out a huff. “FBI agents? Really? That's the best you could come up with?”

“What’s wrong with telling her that? You were the one who told me not to reveal my true identity!”

“Yes, I did tell you that, but I didn’t tell you to make up something ridiculous! I thought you would have come up with something more believable!”

“Aish! I didn’t know what else to say, okay!? It wasn’t my fault! Plus, why didn’t you say anything? You're suppose to be helping me!”

Jessica just gave her a shrug.

“Aish! Let’s just go home and think of another plan.”

“Fine! Let’s go midget. I’m hungry.”

Taeyeon slumped her shoulders and dejectedly followed the brunette home.

-----------------

“Jessica-sshi! Dinner is ready!”

Jessica sauntered into the dining room, taking in the wonderful aroma emitting from the kitchen. She sat on one of the chairs and waited patiently for the other to bring in the food. The delicious smell was making her stomach impatient. Hmm…I wonder what she made.

After what seemed like a bazillion years later, she finally saw the small girl emerge from the kitchen carrying with her a huge pot of...something. I wonder what’s in it. She watched attentively as Taeyeon carefully placed the pot at the center of the table. When she opened the lid, Jessica swore she died and went to heaven. The aroma just killed her.

Omg! She made Kimchi Jjigae! Jessica was about to dig her spoon into the steaming hot soup when a hand suddenly grabbed hold of her wrist, halting her advances. She snapped her head towards Taeyeon’s direction and gave the girl her infamous icy-glare. Taeyeon remained unfazed.

“Not yet Jessica-sshi. There’s another dish coming.”

“There’s more?”

Taeyeon nodded in response.

Jessica reluctantly withdrew her spoon from the soup, earning her a satisfied smile from Taeyeon. She watched as the girl disappeared once again into the kitchen. After another bazillion years later, Taeyeon emerged from the kitchen carrying a sizzling hot plate of…bulgogi! Taeyeon placed the plate right next to the pot of Kimchi Jjigae.

After placing the plate down, Taeyeon turned her attention to Jessica only to be met by an incredibly adorable sight. Jessica had her tongue slightly sticking out from as she stared longingly at the two dishes before her. This was the first time Taeyeon has ever seen Jessica in full aegyo mode. It was new to her but she didn’t find it disgusting at all, like she mostly does when other people try to do aegyo. I guess there are just some people who actually look adorable when doing aegyo. I guess Sunny and Jessica are one of the few exceptions. She couldn’t help but smile affectionately at the other girl’s undeniably cute antics.

“You could dig in now, you know, Jessica-sshi.”

Jessica snapped away from her daydream and began attacking the two dishes without mercy. When she finally got a taste of the delicious food she immediately broke in to a huge smile. This was the first time in such a long time since she had a home cooked meal! It’s such a thrilling change from the stale hospital food she indulged herself with for the past couple of months. This was definitely a great meal!

Watching the brunette devour the food with such sparkle in her eyes, Taeyeon silently laughed to herself knowing that the brunette will throw a fit if she ever laughs out loud at her for any reason whatsoever. But she's got to admit, the sight before her sure was adorable.

“Wow, this is delicious! I didn’t know you were such a great cook!”

Taeyeon let out a soft chuckle. “Same here, I didn’t know I was a great chef as well. I just discovered this skill today.”

When the two made eye contact, they both smiled at each other instantly. After the small conversation, the two settled in a comfortable silent. They sat there just eating their meal silently for the first half of the dinner.

Taeyeon just watched with great interest as the other girl continued to heartily eat her meal. Seeing her so happy like this, she couldn’t help but wonder what made her so sad. From the brief history she got from the two angels, she knows that the brunette had lost someone close to her. But she didn’t really find out who it was and why the person was so important that it affected her to this extent. She wanted to befriend Jessica yesterday and ask her about it, but due to the unsuspected turn of events, she ended up becoming her enemy instead.

Since the girl looked like she is in a good mood right now, Taeyeon thought it would be a good time to talk to her about it. But before she could do that, she needs to create a small conversation with her first so that she would feel more comfortable telling her about it. Alright, here goes.

“Enjoying the food?” Taeyeon asked, making Jessica look up from her plate for the first time since the beginning of the dinner.

“Yeah, it’s delicious.” Jessica smiled gratefully as she took a chunk of rice into .

“Woah, take it easy there. You don’t want to get indigestion do you?” Taeyeon joked.

Jessica blushed embarrassedly. There were times when she would suddenly show off her shikshin side, and when she does, she often doesn’t realize it. Most people get turned off by it so she tries her best to hide her true self from the public.

“Sorry. It’s been a while since I had home cooked meal.” Jessica said sadly.

Taeyeon’s smile fell off her face. She really felt for the girl. How can she smile one minute and be sad the next minute? Taeyeon finally realized that what she assumed about the girl when she first met her was totally wrong. The girl was not bipolar, she was just lonely. She uses her coldness and sarcasm as a defense mechanism so she doesn’t reveal how lonely she truly is in the inside.I guess she developed that personality along the way. Taeyeon thought sadly.

When Taeyeon realized that she had been quiet for a while, she quickly shook her thoughts away and continued away with her plan.

“Well that’s alright! You have me to cook for you from now on! So don’t be shy and suggest whatever you want to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Oh and don’t forget dessert!”

Jessica looked up from her plate and gave a Taeyeon a genuine smile. “Thanks.”

Taeyeon couldn’t help but smile wider in response. This girl really has a way with making people smile unconsciously. When she realized she was getting distracted, she quickly brushed off her smile and continued on with the conversation.

“So Jessica, when was the last time you had a home cooked meal?” Taeyeon tried to ask as nonchalantly as she could, as to not reveal her true intention of asking the question.

As Taeyeon noted, the question definitely got Jessica’s attention. The girl sat there frozen with her spoon midway to . Jessica’s smile slowly faded from her face. “A-a couple of months ago.”

“Why is that?” Taeyeon tried to delve in further, gambling with her luck, hoping to get something more out from the other girl. She knew she might have stepped out line with her question, but she had to ask. She needs to know what it is that’s really eating her up so that she can provide her with proper help.

Jessica placed her spoon down on the table and looked up at her. Upon meeting Jessica’s gaze, Taeyeon flinched when she saw the icy glare emitting from the other girl. “That’s none of your business.” She said coldly.

Taeyeon gulped. But she continued anyway. “Oh? Why is that? Does it have something to do with your loved one that passed away not too long ago?” She knew this one was definitely waaay out of line.

Jessica doesn’t respond. She just continued to stare at Taeyeon intensely. This, however, didn’t faze the older girl.

“Is it a family member?”

Jessica remained silent.

“…or perhaps, a lover?”

Taeyeon caught the twitch in Jessica’s eye. She hit the bullseye.

“So it is a lover. What’s his na—”

Jessica stood up and slammed her hands hard on the table, causing Taeyeon to jump in surprise.

“Shut up.” Jessica said between her gritted teeth.

“Jessica—”

“I said shut up!” Jessica yelled out this time, slamming her hands once again on the table. She looked up and glared at Taeyeon.

Taeyeon who sat there speechless caught the glint in the brunette’s eyes. Her heart dropped. She opened to apologize but before she could say anything, Jessica had dashed off in to the enclaves of her room, slamming the door loudly behind her for Taeyeon to hear.

Taeyeon hit herself on the head with her fist. “Pabo! Why couldn’t you shut your mouth!?” At times like this, she really hates having a motor mouth. Her friends praised her for it, but sometimes it just gets her in to so much trouble.

Now she really felt guilty for asking her such personal questions. She overstepped the line several times and she knew it too. She should have stopped before it got out of hand. Now instead of getting closer to the other girl, she’s farther away from her than ever before. *Sigh* She really needs to do something about their strained relationship if she really wants to progress with Jessica.

Gosh, why are you such an insensitive jerk Kim Taeyeon?!
