Foreword

The spirit stood uncomfortably under the intense gaze of the goddess sitting majestically on her beautifully crafted throne. The spirit had had her head down ever since she entered the white splashed room. She was curious and nervous as to why the goddess had summoned her, a mere wandering spirit, directly to her quarters.


Normally, the goddess would just send her servants or her henchmen if she wanted to convey a message to anyone. The times she had summoned spirits into this room, none ever came back out. Hence, the reasons why many spirits are afraid to make a mistake in fear of being sent here and forever be punished.


Surely she must have done something terribly wrong for the goddess to summon her here right? But as far as she knows, she hadn’t done anything that could have possibly upset the goddess. She shook her thoughts away. Well, whatever it is she had done wrong, she would definitely beg and ask for her forgiveness. But she really hopes the goddess wouldn’t do anything to her! She’s still a young spirit!


Reading the thoughts of the girl before her, she couldn’t help but laugh to herself. She just loves watching lone spirits squirm and pee their pants before her. They always seem to think of the worse possible scenarios as to what’s going to happen to them. It’s like they’re expecting to go through some sort of torturous punishment! Their reactions never get old! Oh the joy of her amazing job!


After she’s filled her satisfaction of playing with the poor spirit, she finally decides to get to the point.


“Kim Taeyeon.” She calls out.


At the sound of the firm voice she snaps her head up to look at her. Once she did, she was awestruck at the goddess before her. She hadn’t had the chance to take a peek at what the goddess looked like because she had her head down even when she entered the room. But now that she had a chance to look at her, she can’t stop gawking at her. She is absolutely stunning! Her beauty is nothing like she’d ever imagined. She had long golden wavy hair that glimmered under the only source of light that illuminated above her head. Her features were very soft despite the stoic expression she masked on her face and the cold aura she wrapped herself around with.


“Are you done gawking at me?” The goddess asked slightly annoyed at the girl who kept spacing out.


Noticing the irritation laced in the goddess’ voice, Taeyeon immediately straightens herself out and gathers her full attention to the goddess. “You wanted to see me?” She asked in a small voice.


The blonde nodded. “Yes. There is an important matter I need to discuss with you.”


Taeyeon gulped. For a moment she forgot about why she came here for. Well, here it goes.


“Please have a seat.” The goddess instructed.


Taeyeon looks around the room but there wasn’t any chair anywhere. Actually, there wasn’t any furniture at all except for the golden throne the goddess is currently occupying. She returned her gaze nervously at the goddess. “Pardon me…erm but where shall I sit?” She asked carefully as to not anger the goddess.


“Obviously on the chair behind you.” The blonde points at something behind the fidgeting girl.


“Behind m—” Taeyeon gasps as she glances behind her. Indeed there was a chair behind her! But how and when it got there, she couldn’t figure it out. She swore it wasn’t there just a second ago!


“Well?” The goddess asked impatiently.


The spirit immediately scrambles to the chair and sits there stiffly waiting for the goddess to begin.


The blonde clears her throat before starting. “As you may know, you’ve been here for almost a year already. Through my observations I know that you’ve behaved well and have been very obedient to my orders during your stay here.”


The spirit nodded. Yes! She knows I’ve been good! Surely she wouldn’t punish me right?


“And since you’ve been on your good behavior, I’ve decided to give you a second chance.”


Taeyeon’s ears perk up and she quickly moves to the edge of her seat clearly interested at what the goddess had just revealed. “A se-second chance?” She stuttered.


The goddess smirked at the sudden change in demeanor of the once trembling spirit. “Yes. A second chance.” She repeats herself.


“A second chance to live.”
