Second Chance

Chapter 16.1 - Interrogation

“Omo! Tiffany!” She heard Jessica exclaim excitedly from behind her.

“Jessie!” The girl’s eyes formed into crescents.

The girl named ‘Tiffany’ suddenly pushed Taeyeon aside and dashed inside the foyer, meeting Jessica in an embrace half way through.

The two squeezed each other in each other’s arms like they haven’t seen each other in such a long time.

Jessica pulled away first, her hands holding on to Tiffany’s.

“When did you get here?” Jessica asked curiously.

“Hmm, a while ago. I’ve been in Korea for about a week and a half already.”

“Really? Why didn’t you contact me?” Jessica pouted.

“I did try to contact you, but you changed your number.”

“Oh, yeah, I did.” Jessica smiled sheepishly.

Taeyeon just stood to the side awkwardly. The two chatted away nonstop, seemingly to have forgotten her existence. She rocked herself back and forth on her heels hoping one of them will notice her presence.

And as if God heard her prayer, Jessica turned to look at her. She smiled at her. She smiled back in return.

“Tiffany, there’s someone I’d like you to meet.” She walked over to where Taeyeon stood by the door. She interlaced their hands together and brought it up for her friend to see.

Tiffany’s eyes grew large at this.

“Taeyeon, this is Tiffany, my best friend. And Tiffany, this is Taeyeon, my girlfriend.” She said bashfully.

“Omo…” Tiffany gasped.

Taeyeon’s cheek flushed pink when she heard Jessica refer to her as her ‘girlfriend.’ This was the first time she’s ever introduced her to anyone as her girlfriend. It made her feel special and very giddy inside.

Tiffany was shocked, for so many reasons. But she decided not to question her friend about it now. She’ll confront her about it later.

She gave a welcoming smile at Taeyeon and extended her hand for a handshake.

“Nice to meet you, Taeyeon-sshi.”

“Nice to meet you too Tiffany-sshi.” Taeyeon shook her hand politely.

After the introductions, Jessica and Taeyeon led their guest to the living room.

As they entered the living room Tiffany took note of the scattered pillows, the blanket and the movie.

When Taeyeon saw the cluster they left in the living room, she hurriedly went to fix it. She turned the television off and gathered the pillows and the blanket and returned them back to the bedroom.

The two friends were left alone in the room.

“Did I interrupt something?” Tiffany asked mischievously.

Recalling their heated moment before Tiffany arrived, Jessica’s face flushed crimson red. Which reminds her, she still looked like a mess from their earlier activities. She quickly flattened her disheveled hair and pulled down her shirt and her shorts.

Tiffany couldn’t help but laugh at her friend’s reaction.

Hearing her friend’s laugh made her even more flustered. “Yah, stop making fun of me.” She pouted.

“How can I? This moment is too precious.” Tiffany continued teasing her friend.

Thankfully, Taeyeon came back at that moment, saving Jessica from an even greater embarrassment. Taeyeon eyed the two women suspiciously.

“What did I miss?” She asked innocently.

Tiffany opened to reply but Jessica beat her to it.

“We were just…talking about the weather…?” Jessica replied lamely.

Tiffany giggled at her poor explanation, earning her a glare from the ice princess.

“Umm, ok.” Taeyeon replied back, still unsure of what’s going on. But she just shrugged it off.

“Why don’t you two sit and I’ll prepare some tea and some snacks.” Jessica hurriedly offered, dropping the previous conversation.

“Yeah, that would be great!” Tiffany replied back cheerfully as she took a seat on the couch.

Jessica disappeared into the kitchen leaving Taeyeon and their new guest alone.

Taeyeon sat on the armchair beside the couch.

The two sat there in silence.

Taeyeon sat uncomfortably, unsure of what to say to Jessica’s friend. She tried to come up with a few things they could talk about, but she couldn’t think of anything that would keep a conversation along.

For some reason, she just realized she isn’t a very sociable for person. She doesn’t know where that came from but she just felt like she’s that type of person. It was a very odd thought.

And it’s not helping that the girl was staring her down like a hawk, watching her every move, making her feel even more self-conscious about herself.

Tiffany studied Taeyeon carefully.

She doesn’t know what to make out of her. She’s pretty, she’s got to give her that, but looks alone does not define a person.

She doesn’t seem like a bad person though. But then again one can’t judge a book by its cover. The only way she’s going to determine if she’s good enough for her friend is through conversation and see her reactions.

Let’s test you shall we?

All of a sudden, Taeyeon felt a chill run down her spine. For some reason this girl is making her nervous. She doesn’t know why though.

Tiffany noticed the other girl’s uneasiness. She decided to create a conversation to make the ambiance more comfortable, well for her, not Taeyeon.

“So, Taeyeon-ah, how long have you known Jessica for?”

“Um, about a month and a couple of days…?” She replied nervously.

“You mean you’ve been going out for a month?”

Taeyeon shook her head. “No, I mean I’ve only known her for about a month.” She clarified.

“I see…”

Wow, they’ve only known each other for a month.

She frowned at the thought.

“How long have you two been together then?” She continued on.

“Today’s the second day.”

“So you became official yesterday?”

Taeyeon nodded.

So they haven’t been together for that long.

Tiffany smiled. “I see. Congratulations then!” She said genuinely, flashing Taeyeon her infamous eye smile.

“Thanks.” Taeyeon replied shyly. She’s got to admit, this Tiffany girl was very pretty, especially those crescent-like eyes. She’s never seen anything like them. A truly a magnificent sight to see.

Very cute.

Her cheek tinted pink at the thought.

When she realized what she was doing, she mentally slapped herself.

Now why the heck would I be checking out Sooyeon’s friend!? Byuntae!

Tiffany noticed this and smirked.

Ha! She got affected by my eye smile! Let see if she get’s swayed by this.

“So, Tae Tae,”

Tae Tae…?

“Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?” She asked in her aegyo voice, tilting her head to the side adorably. This always got men very giddy and blushing like a tomato. She wants to see how Taeyeon handles it.

Taeyeon gulped.

No, she’s not nervous, more like irritated. She doesn’t like how Tiffany is using an overload amount of aegyo. It’s making her sick.

Honestly, she really doesn’t approve of aegyo. She hates it when Sooyoung does it, she hates it when Yoona does it, and she hates it when Seohyun does it. The only people she approves it on are Sunny, the aegyo queen, and Jessica, her adorable girlfriend.

She really doesn’t like the way Tiffany is trying to act all cute. She could tell it was forced.

But why is she trying so hard to be cute? She’s already cute without even trying. She admitted shamelessly. Well, it’s true…

Taeyeon scratched the back of her neck awkwardly. She tried to ignore her instead of voicing out her opinion. She doesn’t want to be rude by blatantly telling her how annoying she’s being right now. Plus, she’s Jessica’s close friend. Maybe she’s just trying to be friendlier.

“Um, there’s really nothing special about me.” She admitted. It was the truth. She doesn’t even remember anything about herself in her previous life. The only interesting fact about her is that she’s a spirit, but she’s pretty sure Tiffany doesn’t need to know about that fact about her.

Tiffany pouted. “Aw, come on. Don’t be shy.”

“Erm, really, there’s nothing interesting about me at all.”

Tiffany wasn’t going to give up now. She needs to be more aggressive.

“Aw, I’m sure you’re a very interesting person.” She winked at her seductively.

Taeyeon’s eye twitched at the action.

What.The.Hell. Is she trying to flirt with me?

Taeyeon scooted away cautiously. “No, not really.” She replied uneasily.

Tiffany gritted her teeth.

Hmm…she’s not falling for my tricks. Maybe she really is a genuine person. But then again, a lot of d*uchebags don’t get affected by aegyo or a wink. Let’s see how she reacts to this then.

“Oh, Tae Tae, you’re so funny!” She laughed heartily.

Taeyeon raised a brow. She isn’t sure what the other girl found funny about the statement, ‘not really.’ She wasn’t even trying to funny. But she laughed along awkwardly just to be polite.

“Hehe, right I’m hilarious.”

Tiffany abruptly stopped laughing making Taeyeon stop laughing as well.

“So, Tae Tae, are you doing anything tomorrow?” Tiffany asked out of the blue.

This caught Taeyeon off guard. She furrowed her brows in confusion. “Tomorrow? I don’t know. Why?”

“Because I’d really love to know more about you.” She said, raising her brows mischievously. “If you know what I mean.” She added as she seductively bit her bottom lip.

“Excuse me?” Taeyeon blurted out. She gaped at the girl incredulously with wide eyes.

Tiffany ignored her reaction and inched closer to her until she reached the edge of the couch. She ran her index finger down Taeyeon’s thigh, caressing it very slowly and gently.

Taeyeon could feel herself growing hot inside. She quickly jerked away from the touch to prevent Tiffany from taking things further. She stood up from her seat and took a step back, putting some distance between her and Tiffany.

She was completely appalled by the audacity of this girl to touch her and talk to her in such a ually suggestive manner. She’s supposed to be Jessica’s best friend! How can she just flirt with her best friend’s girlfriend!? And to shamelessly propose cheating on Jessica when she knew full well that they were dating was outrageous!

She doesn’t care if she’s Jessica’s best friend or whatnot, but she is not going to tolerate this anymore.

Her brows knitted tightly and her lips formed a thin line over her face. She stared at her intently.

“I don’t know what your deal is, but you need to stop. I really don’t want to be rude, but you’re really making it difficult for me not to. So, I’m going to be blunt with you. Please stop trying to seduce me. It’s creeping me out. I am in love with Sooyeon, and she’s the only person I’m going to love. I will not let someone like you destroy our relationship. And I don’t want yours and Sooyeon’s friendship to be destroyed either. So please stop.” She said very sternly.

Tiffany didn’t even flinch. She just stared at the scowling girl, studying her and scrutinizing her every being. She wanted to see if she was truly honest with what she just said.

The way Tiffany was staring so keenly at her made her feel uncomfortable again. She felt so bare. It’s like she’s trying to read her soul.

Wait a second, I am soul.

“W-what? What are you looking at?” She questioned the silent girl.

Tiffany looked at her for a second longer. Then she shook her head. “Nothing.”

Just then, Jessica reappeared with a tray of cups, a kettle and a plate of cookies in her hands. She carefully placed the tray down on the coffee table. After settling it down, she immediately felt the tensed atmosphere that she failed to notice when she entered the room. She glanced at Taeyeon then at Tiffany.

“Did something happen?” She asked the two girls.

Taeyeon kept quiet. She won’t dare tell Jessica what her friend has been doing while she was gone. The thought of it irked her, but she really doesn’t want to destroy their friendship over something absurd. Plus, Tiffany seemed to have gotten the message.

“Nothing.” Tiffany quickly answered.

Jessica was still suspicious, but she just shrugged it off for now.

She sat down next to her friend on the couch.

Taeyeon remained standing.

“Taengoo, are you not going to sit?” Jessica looked at her.

“Oh, um—”

Just then the house phone rang.

“I’ll go get it!” Taeyeon quickly offered. She was grateful for the phone call. She doesn’t want to stay in the living room with her girlfriend and her seductress best friend. It felt awkward being in the same room with them. Who knows, her tongue might slip and she might unleash the ice princess. All hell will break loose then.

She answered the phone. “Hello? Oh, hey Yoona…Uh-huh…You want to meet up? Why? Hmm…I’m kind of busy right now—”

Then a light bulb lit up in her head. I have an excuse not to be here…in this awkward situation…

“Are you sure it’s really important?...Ok! I’ll be there…Ok, bye.”

She hung up and returned to the living room.

“Who was that?” Her girlfriend inquired.

“That was Yoona. She said she really needs to see me right now. She said it’s an emergency.” She prayed Jessica would let her go so that she won’t have to be stuck in this awkward place.

“But, Taengoo, we have company…”

Taeyeon bit the inside of her cheek. As much as she really doesn’t want to be in here right now, she knew she can’t reject Jessica, especially when she pleads like this.

*Sigh* “I’ll let Yoona know I can’t come.”

She walked over to the phone and began dialing.

Tiffany turned to her friend. “Jessie, you know its fine. If it’s really important, she can go. I could just get to know her some other time. It’s no big deal.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, it’s fine. Plus, there’s something important I need to speak to you about as well.”

“Something important?”

“Yes. Something private.” She glanced at Taeyeon, trying to hint to her friend that it concerns her new girlfriend.

Jessica glanced at Taeyeon and then at her friend. What is she up to? She thought curiously.

“Fine.” She finally answered. “Taengoo-ah, you can go!” She yelled over her shoulder.

As soon as she heard that, Taeyeon came running back out. “Really?” She asked excitedly.

Jessica smiled. “Yeah. Tell Yoona I said hi, ok?”

Taeyeon nodded. She turned to Tiffany.

“It was nice meeting you Tiffany-sshi. I hope to see you again soon.” She said bowing politely.

Tiffany bowed back politely. “Same here.”

“I’ll be back soon.” Taeyeon said and pecked Jessica on the lips.

“Alright, be careful sweetie!”

Taeyeon waved bye and shut the front door behind her.

Jessica returned her gaze back to her friend and crossed her arms over her chest.

“Alright, spill. What is it that you need to say to me that you can’t say in front of my girlfriend?”

Tiffany smirked. “Right down to business are we?”

Jessica rolled her eyes. “Quit pulling my leg Tiff, and just tell what it is you need to tell me.”

“Okay fine. I don’t like your new ‘girlfriend’ ok? I don’t think she’s right for you. There I said it.”

Jessica’s brow furrowed. “I don’t think that’s any of your business.” She retorted back.

Tiffany scoffed. “Oh, come on. You barely know the girl. She told me herself you two met a month ago? And you two became an item yesterday? What is that?”

“It’s called love, that’s what.” Jessica stated confidently.

Tiffany rolled her eyes. “Bull. Jessie, you and Donghae didn’t even get together until you were twenty-six and you’ve been friends for like five years. I know you Jessica, and I know that you don’t let people in that easily.”

“Well, Taeyeon’s different.”

“You barely know her, Jess. What if she’s plotting something against you? You might even be in danger.”

“I think you watch way too many dramas on TV.” Jessica chortled as she took a sip of her tea.

Tiffany frowned. “Oh stop mocking me. Dramas are great. That’s why a lot of foreigners watch it. Ok, you’re getting me off topic here. But seriously, how much do you know about this Kim Taeyeon girl?”

Jessica gulped. Truthfully, she doesn’t know much about Taeyeon. But then again Taeyeon doesn’t know much about herself either. “Enough to know she’s a good person.” She stated coolly.

Tiffany wasn’t convinced. “I think you’re just confused. Come on, Jess, you’re straight. You’ve been straight your whole life and suddenly you like girls? Does that make any sense?”

Jessica’s eye twitched. She unconsciously tightened her grip on her teacup. “Is this what it’s about? Because you don’t like the fact that I’m gay?”

“That’s not what I said.”

Jessica scoffed. “But that’s what you’re trying to imply, isn’t it?”

“Look, I’m your best friend and I’m just trying to look out for you, Jess. I just don’t want you to be going out with other people just because you’re depressed and trying to get over Donghae.”

Jessica slammed her teacup on the coffee table furiously. “That’s not what I’m trying to do and I’m not depressed!”

Tiffany scoffed. “I spoke to Hara not too long ago. She’s told me everything that’s been going on with you this past year. She told me how you barely go out and interact with other people. She said she’s never seen you sleep or eat. The only thing she’s seen you do is consume coffee after coffee. She even said you spent most of your life in that hospital.”

“That’s not true.”Jessica asserted as she looked off to the side.

“Heechul said the exact same thing. Even he’s worried about your current mental state.”

“I’m fine. I think you should just mind your own business.” She snapped back.

Tiffany flinched at her harsh tone. “Jessica, I’m just really worried about your condition, sweetie.” She said earnestly. “I’m not trying to attack you. I just want to make sure you’re not just dating someone because you’re forcing yourself to move on. I mean, it’s good to move on, but you don’t have to do it this way. There are other ways to cope with your loss. You could go to therapy just like what Heechul suggested.”

Jessica felt guilty for lashing out at her friend. She knew she’s just being a good friend.

She finally turned to look at her friend. “Tiff, I’m touched that you care for me, but really, I’m fine. You don’t have to worry about me. And just so you know, I’m not trying to force myself to move on, nor am I trying to use Taeyeon as a way to cope with my loss. I really do love her and she loves me. That’s the truth.”

Tiffany looked straight to Jessica’s eyes. In them she could see honesty. She knew her friend was telling the truth. slowly tugged upwards. “So you really love her, huh?”

Jessica smiled.

“I do. A lot. To be honest, she was the one who helped me move on. When I met her I was in a terrible state. I admit, I was very depressed back then, but not anymore. She, Taeyeon, she stuck by me and saved me from that dark hole I dug myself in. She pulled me out of the darkness and brought me back to the light. She made me feel warm and loved again. She’s an amazing person inside and outside.”

Tiffany couldn’t help but smile genuinely. This is the first time she’s ever seen her best friend truly happy since Donghae’s passing. She could tell she’s fallen hard for Taeyeon from the way her eyes sparkled to the way curve upwards when she talked about her lover. In those brown orbs of hers, she could see true love. She’s really glad she found happiness again. That’s all she really wanted for her friend.

“I’m really happy for you, Jess.” She said genuinely. She placed her hand on top of Jessica’s affectionately.

“Thanks, Tiff.” She smiled back as she squeezed her friend’s hand in hers.

“Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Krystal and Yonghwa are in town.”

“Really? How come they didn’t tell me they were coming?”

“Same reason why I couldn’t contact you, you changed your number.”

“Oh right.” She said sheepishly. “I should go visit them.”

“Yeah, you should! But you know what’s even better? We should all go visit that old beach house of yours near Sokcho beach! It’s been a while since we last visited that place. Since its summer already, this would be a great time to go there! Yaay beach!” Tiffany clapped excitedly as she smiled radiantly, revealing those infamous crescent eyes of hers.

“I guess that doesn’t sound bad. I think I still have the keys to the beach house somewhere in my bedroom.”

“See! We should totally do it! Plus, it would be a good opportunity to introduce Taeyeon to your siblings! And I’ll get a chance to get to know her as well!”

Jessica smiled. “Ok, let’s do it! When do you want to go?”

“Is tomorrow too soon for you?”

“No, not really. I guess we could go tomorrow.”

“Yay! You and Taeyeon drive there. I’ll go with Krystal and Yonghwa!”

“Alright. That sounds great!”

Tiffany looked at her watch. “Darn, I should really go. I still have to meet up with another friend of mine.”

“Oh, ok. I’ll walk you out.”

Tiffany and Jessica both got up and headed to the front door.

“I’ll see you and Taeyeon tomorrow ok?” She said hugging her best friend.

“Yup.” Jessica replied back as she returned her friend’s embrace.

They pulled away. Tiffany was about to leave when she remembered something. “Oh yeah, can you apologize to Taeyeon for me?”

Jessica cocked an eyebrow. “What for?”

Tiffany bit her bottom lip guiltily. “Well, I kind of pulled the moves on her earlier when you were preparing the snacks. I think I might have freaked her out a bit…” She explained sheepishly.

“Oh my God! Tiffany! Not again!”

“I’m sorry! I just wanted to make sure she’s not a bad person…”

Jessica face-palmed herself. Her friend has been doing this to every single person she’s dated thus far, including Donghae of course. Sometimes she feels like Tiffany is way too suspicious for her own good.

She let out a tired sigh. “What am I going to do with you, Tiff?”

“Yah! I said I was sorry! I’m just concerned alright? Geez…” Tiffany pouted.

Jessica chuckled at her adorable friend. “Ok, ok. I’ll let Taeyeon know. You should go before you run late to your meeting.”

“Right! I’ll see you two lovebirds tomorrow! Bye Jess!” She waved goodbye and ran off towards the elevator.

Jessica just shook her head amusedly as she closed the door behind her. She walked back into the living room and resumed watching the movie Taeyeon and her were watching before Tiffany came.

She looked up at the clock and hoped Taeyeon would come home soon. She really wants to finish what they’ve started.

To be continued…

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A/NNot much TaengSic interaction in this chapter, just TaeNy altercation and JeTi friendship. By the way, some of you are wondering if Tiffany is part of the Gods' plans, I can tell you confidently that she is not part of anyone's plans. I'm not sure if you guys still remember, but in chapter 1, Hara mentioned that Tiffany would be back. Hence, why she's in this chapter :P And she's not the third task either! Next chapter will be the second part. We'll see why Yoona called Taeyeon over. YoonHyun moments and TaengSic moments for sure.
