- Twelve

Harum Scarum

Days passed after the festival. Turns out, everything was going so well. I exited the room with Jaehee by my side, who was hurrying already.

"Oh god, Suyung.." she cursed under her breath and pulled out a book from her bag. "I'm late for practice. You have no work today, right? Drop over so we can hangout! Anyways, can you pretty please bring this back to the library?"

I playfully rolled my eyes and grabbed the book from her hands. "Hmm. You're just excited to see Jungkook dance." She laughed and gave me a two-finger salute, before jogging off.

Highschool was easier than I expected it to be. I had good grades. And everything was going well - except for the fact that I know PY was still around the corner. Namjoon was still investigating on him. Even he was having a hard time.

I made my way to the library and returned the book Jaehee instructed me to. I was about to go out, when a certain person caught my eye. I turned my head and smiled, making my way over to Namjoon who was reading a book.

"Hey!" I tapped his shoulder and sat beside him. He gave me a small smile and continued reading. "What are you reading? Did you discover something about.. you know who?"

He sighed and closed his book, turning to me. "It was harder than I thought. But I'm having my own suspects here. I can't tell you. But when I'm sure.." he stopped. "I'll be sure to inform you. Have you been getting any new text messages recently?"

I mentally face palmed myself for being so forgetful. I should've told him about the 'one-month' deal me and PY had weeks ago! God, I feel so stupid.

"I forgot to tell you.." I said cheekily, handing him my phone for him to check. "He told me he was going to tell me something exactly a month from that message."

"I can see that." he cocked an eyebrow. "Today's August 31st. Don't be alone on September 30. You have to be with someone."

"Got it." I said, as he handed me back my phone. I pocketed it and smiled widely when I realised something. "Say.. Jungkook's birthday is tomorrow!"

He perked up, then toned down after realising I was there. "Oh.. yeah, whatever. What about it?"

I rolled my eyes. "They're going to go swimming.. why won't you come with them?"

He hummed. "Them? You aren't going to your own bestfriend's birthday?"

I shrugged. "I don't know how to swim."

He pursed his lips and leaned on his chair. "Nah." he replied, then turned to me. "I won't go if you don't. Stop being such a killjoy. Weren't you the one that gave me that message?"

My mouth went agape at his comment, and I narrowed my eyes. "Hey! That is way different from your plain killjoy persona! I'm afraid of the water you know."

"It won't be as bad as you think it will." he promised. "Come on, the day'll be more special if you come along."

I sighed, giving in. "Fine." I bit my gums, still not comfortable with agreeing with him in the first place. "Say.. do you want to come with me?"

"To where?" he asked, standing up and walking towards one of the shelves. I followed him.

"To the performance club. Everybody else is there." I placed a hand on my hip. "Jungkook, Jaehee, Hobi, Baekhyun." I listed. "I guess we're pretty different."

"Alright." he shrugged, pushing the book back into it's place neatly. He pocketed his hands and gestured me to follow him. "So.. anything going on with you and Baekhyun?"

I blushed madly and looked away. "Geez. Do you really have to be so direct about it?"

He chuckled and opened the door for me. I walked outside. "Well, I hate being indirect. Spit it."

"Well, when I do think about it, you're the only one I haven't told." I cleared my throat. "I like him. That's all. There's nothing going on between us, I swear. We're not together."

He scoffed softly but nodded anyways. "Yeah. Hobi's right, you're too young to date."

"I'm not dating him!" I defended. But it was true. We weren't really dating..

"I didn't say." he held up both of his hands in the air. "Damn, you're really expressive."

I scoffed in reply. Namjoon laughed a bit. "Anyways, did you get Jungkook anything?"

I pursed my lips and looked up at him with a smile. "Of course I did. Call me a good friend; he rarely gives me anything for my birthday.. I got him some shoes.."

"Some shoes?" he cocked an eyebrow.

"Boots." I said firmly. "It's specifically for dancing. I saved up for it a year ago.."

"You're a really nice friend." he complimented. "I bet that bracelet you always wear was from him."

I looked down on my bracelet. Wow, was he a mind-reader now? "Hmm. You got that right. How about you.. don't you have any.."

"Friends?" he finished for me. "I honestly prefer being alone. Everybody just comes to me when they need anything. Look, you and your friend were the first people to approach me in school."

I laughed. "I'm honoured."

I didn't get why, though. Namjoon was honestly a really good guy. Was it because he looked really intimidating that no one wanted to be friends with him? I wouldn't think so.

"Anyways, I think they're done with their practice." I said, tiptoeing and peeking on the small window on top of the door. Namjoon laughed.

"Yeah.. are they practicing for that dance competition?" he asked, pushing the door open for me.

"Hmm." I replied.

"Suyung!" Jaehee sang, running over to me and tightly wrapping her arms around me. She pulled away with a huge smile. "You actually came!"

"I'm a lady of my word." I laughed, as the others darted their attention over to where we were as well. Luckily, everyone was there already.

"These two are really good." Baekhyun motioned over to Jungkook and Hobi who was all sweaty and on the floor, drinking their water.

"You're pretty good in singing yourself." Hobi added, smiling widely whilst panting.

"Ooh, ooh!" Jaehee said excitedly. "I have an idea! Since we rarely have shown each other's talents.. how about we spin this bottle.." she made her way over to Hobi and grabbed a water bottle beside him. "And decide who gets to show their talent?"

"You're pretty creative about things." Jungkook said, wiping some sweat on his forehead with his towel, before standing up.

"Is that a compliment?" she flushed.

Jungkook chuckled and nodded. "Yeah."

She turned to me and smiled widely. I guess her and Jungkook were in good terms now, huh? I guess I had to question her about what happened in the ferris wheel a week ago.

Everyone then sat in a circle. Jaehee crossed her legs and spun the bottle.

It pointed at Hobi.

"Ha!" I smiled widely. "This is a dream come true! I finally get to see you dance."

"To make my performance at the dance contest more unpredictable." he made a silly dance as he stood up, which was still pretty good even though he was slacking. "I'm going to do freestyle!"

"Yeah!" Jungkook and Baekhyun stood up from their places and made their way to the music box. "What do we play? Electro.. hip hop.."

"This! Play this!" Baekhyun said excitedly, pointing at something.

Jungkook laughed and played the music; which was obviously a song for freestyle. I couldn't help but be in awe as Hobi dance to the music smoothly and sharply, as if he already danced to this song.

"Ah, this is unfair!" Baekhyun laughed as Hobi easily danced to the beat.

"Gahhh!" Jungkook grinned, as Hobi did his last move with a flip.

"Woah! Hobi, you're really good!" I clapped my hands. "I order you to dance hip hop to me everyday!"

Hobi laughed. "It was easier than it looked like."

We spun the bottle, and it then landed on Jungkook. He fist bumped the air and sprung up, this time, it was Baekhyun and Hobi manning the music device.

It took them a while to choose a song, but they ended up picking an english one. I've always seen him dance, serious and not, and I had to admit, he was getting better and better.

His moves were sharper, wider, and stronger. I didn't know I was smiling the whole dance. He ended his dance with a bow.

"Namjoon! It's your turn!"

"He's going to give us random facts about the solar system.." Jungkook joked.

Namjoon scoffed and inhaled, and did I say that he was.. a spectacular rapper?

His words were so fluent, and I could tell even though some words were english. It was also an obvious freestyle rap, as he seemed to be thinking as he went on. His lyrics even had meaning.

"I didn't know you could rap!" Jaehee exclaimed.

"Yeah. Now respect your sunbae-nim." He joked.

"You're really good!" Baekhyun and Hobi said at the same time.

"And those lyrics were yours!" Jungkook added.

He shrugged. "It's a hobby I would want to pursue sometime."

Next was Baekhyun. When was I going to get picked? But honestly, I didn't want to. There was no piano here! I can't draw that fast!

Baekhyun hummed. "I sing... but I'm going to have to think of a song first.."

He snapped his fingers after a while, signalling he finally thought of one. "This song comforts me. I've always heard it, but didn't really mind too much. But I get it now."

We assured him, and then he started singing.

As soon as he started, my heart couldn't help but beat faster.

Oh words I want to say you to

You're beautiful

Thank you for meeting me

I see you, always the same

Our thick scent that waited for me

Deeply rings in me

With this mysterious and strong attraction

I want to spread my wings toward you

My heart melts at your smile

When our eyes meet

My heart pounds

He continued seeing, and I felt heat rise up my cheeks as I listened to him execute the lyrics so beautifully. I didn't know I was staring.

I'm so lucky to have met you

If we meet again, I want to tell you

Fly to you, stay by my side

You're beautiful

He sang it with so much emotion.. It made my heart flutter.

"You're.. really good." Jaehee was the first one to speak. "I guess I know why the song has meaning now.." she gave me a sneaky glance.

"Baekhyun-ah! That was so heartwarming!" Hobi cried.

"I gotta admit." Jungkook and Namjoon said.

I felt his stare. So I looked up and gave him a wide smile. "Beautiful."

He smiled wider.

Jaehee got picked next. She confidently stood up and played the song on her own. She got on her tiptoes, which looked.. painful. Then she started dancing.

Unlike her maybe too expressive and hyper personality, her dance.. the way she danced, she was so graceful and smooth. Every jump, every turn, every swing.

It was obvious she's been dancing for years. Even Jungkook clapped as she danced. When she was finished, she gave us a short bow then made her way over to us again, then pointed at me.

"Ha! It's your turn, Rhee Suyung! You're the only one left!"

And that was what I hated the most. What was I supposed to do?

I laughed awkwardly as I felt their stares on me. "My talents don't really depend on singing or dancing.. so.."

"Come on!" Baekhyun pursued.

"Yunaaa, please?" Hobi pleaded.

"It's unfair if I rapped and you get to do nothing!" Namjoon reasoned.

I was about to protest, until Jungkook pulled me closer and whispered something to me. Oh yeah.. I almost forgot about that. I don't consider it as a talent.. maybe.. a hobby? Or maybe it was a talent..

I sighed and blinked a few times, before looking up at them and meeting Hobi's eyes.

"You." I started, my voice cold. "How much did you enjoy playing with me?"

Hobi's smile dropped. "Y-Yuna?"

"You know I'm not fond of affection." my voice grew more stern.

"Hey, Suyung," Jaehee interrupted.

I turned to her, my eyes narrowed. I pointed at her. "I know all about your lies! I know how much you're trying to get close to me to get what you want! I'm sick of this.."

I toned down and felt tears sting my cheeks. "Please.."

I broke down. "Leave me alone."

"And you actually targeted the two sensitive friends." Jungkook sighed, as I looked up with a huge smile, wiping away my tears.

"Hold up, you were acting?" Namjoon cocked an eyebrow. "That was mean! I was scared you were going to turn to me!"

Hobi had his head in his hands, then looked up with a huge frown and beady eyes. "Yuna! Were those.. true?"

Jaehee was too busy crying.

"It's not." I shrugged. "You know how much I love you, right?"

Jaehee's cries got more audible as she ran over and tackled me in a hug. "Pabo! You scared me! I'll never, ever, use you!"

I was about to protest, when I felt another pair of arms hug me from behind. "Yuna! That was mean!"

Baekhyun smiled. "I was scared too."

"Sheesh, I'll never tell you those things." I reassured. "We're all going to be friends.. always."

"Really?" Baekhyun's eyes widened.

"Of course!" Jaehee said, still not letting go of me.

"Hmm." Jungkook nodded, smiling at everyone.

"That's nice to hear!" Hobi said, wiping some tears.

Namjoon's lips twirled into a smile. "If you say so."
