Harum Scarum

I stared at the ceiling.

I couldn't sleep. All I could think about was Yuhan's advice.

'Reply to him.'

Overcome by anger and temptation, I sat up and grabbed my phone from my bedside table, making myself comfortable as I went back to PY's messages these past few days.

Every day he messaged me. Every 6:00AM, 12:00PM, and 7:00PM. I never replied. But maybe now was the time. I was sick of him. He had to know who he was dealing with. I won't back down.

Questions ran in my head. But bombarding him probably wasn't a good idea. So I said:

'What do you want?'

And with that, with a heavy heart, I placed my phone on my bedside table again and went to sleep. Not that I could say it wasn't a restless night.

My eyes fluttered open before my phone even set off it's alarm. I turned to the side and realised it was an hour from my alarm. I couldn't sleep again after this; so I grabbed my phone and bit my lip when seeing the message PY left for me last night.

- unknown number -

'Exactly a month from now.. let me tell you something.'

PY.

I sighed and started preparing myself for school. Once I finished my routine, I stretched for a bit as I made my way outside of my room. I found three of my friends inside the shop, drinking coffee.

"What the hell?" I asked, running my fingers through my hair as I blinked the remaining sleepiness out of my eyes. I tightened my grip around my bag as I walked over to where they were. "What are you doing here?"

"Nothing." Jaehee shrugged. "We're just being good friends. Has PY sent any messages to you last night?"

I sighed. "I asked him what he wanted last night. He told me he was going to tell me something exactly  a month from now."

Hobi and Jungkook tilted their heads to look at the calendar. Jungkook stood up, grabbed a marker nearby, and flipped the calendar. "I guess we gotta mark the date, do we?" he marked September 17.

"Anyways, don't we have to go to school?" I tried to lighten up the mood. Hobi almost chocked on his juice on my remark.

"It's like.. an hour from school." Jungkook pointed out.

"We can talk about.. other stuff for now." Jaehee shrugged, as she scooted a little bit on her rather large seat, motioning me to sit beside her. Which I gladly did.

"So PY probably'll stop sending you creepy messages in a while." she cheered up.

"Well, that's not for sure," Jungkook interrupted. Jaehee frowned but nodded anyways. Hobi made a sound at the back of his throat. He opened his phone, which was on the table, where we could all see it.

Jungkook scoffed at his wallpaper, while Jaehee lets out a giggle. "Your lockscreen's a picture of you and Yuna?"

Hobi shrugged. "I'm going to change it."

I cocked an eyebrow, an unconscious smirk playing on my lips. He raised his phone to an angle where only both of us were visible in the camera.

Jaehee rolled her eyes as we took the picture. "Talk about favoritism."

I laughed and held up Hobi's hand higher so all of us could fit in the picture. He took the photo and started changing it to his lockscreen. "Wah! We're all do adorable! Especially Yuna!" he moved his hands as if wanting to pinch my cheeks.

"Say.." Hobi started after a while. "I never got to ask.. when are your birthdays?"

"Oh! Mine's on May 28." Jaehee raised her hand, then pouted. "9 months from now."

"November 7." I smiled. "How about you, Hobi?"

"February 18!" he grinned brightly. "4 days after Valentines!"

Then our eyes landed on Jungkook. "September 1."

"Ooh, it's close!" Hobi said excitedly, while Jaehee started singing a birthday song. "Say, Jungkook-ah, you should have a birthday party!"

He frowned. "I've had those before. Yuna was my only guest."

"It's true." I rolled my eyes playfully. "But you know.. we can do something fun, like.." I stayed quiet and started thinking of numerous things, only to end up blank.

"Ah!" Hobi raised a hand. "How about we go swimming? Jungkook, you told me how much you missed going swimming."

Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows and tilted his head, Jaehee halting from her song and turning to me as well. Now, what was their problem?

Jungkook gave me a questioning look. "I don't know how to swim.. but god, guys, enjoy yourself. Especially you, Jeon Jungkook. You're going to be 17 in a few weeks and you really need to ask for my approval?"

Hobi frowned. "Yuna.. ah, I forgot-"

I waved a hand and flashed them a playful glare. Did they really have to considerate me all the time? "Stop being so selfish."

"Are you sure? Don't you want to be as far away from the pool.. or anything deep, as possible?" Jungkook questioned. "If you can't come-"

"Then I won't." I shrugged. "Enjoy yourselves. I've been spending your birthdays with you since.. I've always did. We can always have the afterparty here." I said, standing up.

Jungkook sighed. "You're so hard to read sometimes."

I laughed. "That's why we're best of friends."

Soon, we were off to school. Jaehee yawned as we did. "God.. I didn't realise we were too early. I mean.. we still have like, 45 minutes?" she said, looking up from her watch.

"But that means.." I trailed off, turning on my heel so I was walking backwards, earning a 'pst!' from Hobi, who wasn't in approval of the way I walked. "We get to visit the riverside again! Yay!"

"The riverside?" Jaehee cocked an eyebrow.

"You'll know." I winked, then turned my back from them and started sprinting, looking over my shoulder and yelling: "Last one gets to treat everyone ice cream on the way home!"

In the end, Jaehee was last, partly because she wasn't used to running, and partly because she was still confused on where to go.

"That was so unfair." Jaehee panted, as Jungkook effortlessly exclaimed that he was the winner. I guess I felt like a loser as Hobi was second, and I was third, but I'm happy enough to not be last place.

"Anyways.." I started, once everyone managed to catch their breaths. "It's the sketchy turn right here. Follow me." I said, gesturing them to follow me as I entered the weird turn to the rather dangerous place.

"There's a guy right there." Hobi said, his voice more quieter than usual. I turned my head to find a guy scanning the scenery, his feet on the edge of the mountain, almost as if...

My eyes widened.

"N-No!"

"Oi!"

I didn't even think. I recklessly jumped from the flight of cemented stairs, but luckily, landed safely, but not painlessly. Out of desperation, I wrapped my hands around the man's torso and pulled him back with all my weight.

"No!" I repeated, not letting go of him, but was glad to know he was safe. "What were you doing?"

I felt my friends' footsteps behind me, signalling their presence. But right now, all I wanted was to comfort the suicidal man.

"Why do you care?" his voice was cold. His tone was hurt. But he didn't yank my grasp away. He continued to stare at the scene in front of him, almost as if it were the most beautiful thing in the world. "I'm nothing."

"No, you're not." I gritted my teeth. This was the first time I've heard such words - the first time I've ever seen someone on the verge of killing themselves... why? "Stop this, please."

"I don't know you." he replied, his voice and tone still monotone. I looked up, but didn't let go. He turned his head, and I couldn't help but admire his eyes. He had beautiful eyes.. but they were cold.

"Rhee Suyung." I murmured. "Don't end your life, please. Tell me your name."

I needed to make him feel wanted; to make him feel loved. I wanted him to know I was his friend; even though we just met each other. I hated not being able to help people.

"Baekhyun." he breathed out, and with that, he passed out and fell unto me, making me stumble back.

Jaehee was the first one to come over, taking the guy off of me.

"Yuna, that was dangerous!" Hobi chided, instructing me to sit down while Jungkook and Jaehee checked on Baekhyun. Why were they more worried for me? But now that I thought about my ankle, it did hurt. "Don't be so reckless, Yuna."

For some reason, he had bandaids and other stuff and pulled up down my socks. I couldn't help but bite my lip when I saw blood drool from my ankle.

"Why do you even have those with you?" I said, trying to change the subject as I didn't like being scolded. As I spent more time with Hobi, it's becoming clear that he was motherly in some way.

"Yuna, don't do that again." he sighed. "This is going to hurt a bit. Jungkook," he waved a hand to Jungkook, who came over.

He crouched beside me. "Yeah?"

"Hold out your hand." Hobi instructed, placing Jungkook's hand in front of me.

"Ow." I gritted my teeth and tried not to scream out of pain as Hobi started dripping alcohol on my wound. Jungkook sighed and let me hold his hand at least.

"Why did you have to do that?" Hobi sighed again. "I was really worried Yuna!"

Jungkook frowned. "It's been a while since you got scars. You really did that for someone you didn't even know?" he turned his head to look at Baehkyun, whom Jaehee was looking after.

I pursed my lips. "I couldn't just watch.. Jungkook.. Hobi.. I had a choice."

"It was his decision." Jungkook frowned. "Yuna, I'm sorry if I seem so negative.. it's just that.. some people have their lives decided for them.."

"But we can change that." I shot back. I wanted them to understand.. "Don't be too worried about me.. we can be his friends.. we can change his outlook on life."

"You'll actually do that for someone you just met?" Jungkook locked eyes with mine.

"I would do the same for you." I sighed, as Hobi started wrapping a gauze around my ankle. "He needs to be understood. You guys can just.. be there. And at least support me."

"Alright." Jungkook gave in, standing up and lending out a hand for me to take.

"Yuna." Hobi started, standing up as well as Jungkook helped me up. "Do I have to replace your bandages for you?"

I shook my head and smiled at him, giving him a short hug. "I can do it myself, Hobi.. thank you."

"Sorry to interrupt." Jaehee said, clasping her hands together. "But any idea where we take the anonymous man?"

"We can take him to the infirmary." I suggested.

"And what excuse are we suppose to make up?" Jungkook cocked an eyebrow. I bended down and wrapped Baekhyun's arm around my shoulders, Jungkook helping me.

"Yuna, let me." Hobi insisted. "You're injured."

I gave in and let him assist the man. Then I started thinking of an excuse. "We can just tell them we found him passed out in the streets. The nurse should be nice enough." I reassured, then guided them towards the clinic.

"We have clubs later." Jaehee started, then turned to me. "Are you sure you'll be alright going home?"

I smiled and nodded. "Of course."

"If you say so." she replied, smiling at me as well. We arrived at the clinic. And luckily, the nurse was indeed nice enough and took Baekhyun in.

"So.. any idea what you're going to do with him?" Hobi ran his fingers through his hair.

I shrugged. "If he doesn't have a home to go to, I can make him stay at home."

"W-What?"
