Chapter 7

~DOUBLE UPDATE~

“The store I go to for fabric is a little bit of a walk from here. Is that okay?” Misun asked, looking up at the boys. They were both several centimeters taller than her, but she didn’t mind tilting her head back to see them. They walked on either side of her, effectively shielding her from the wind that was blowing on this autumn night.

“That’s fine with us.” Youngjae said with a small smile. Misun smiled back at Youngjae and nodded.

“Misun, I told Youngjae and the others about our idea for Thursday.” Daehyun said, wanting to get the girl’s attention.

“Our what? … Oh! Right.” Misun took a moment to recall that particular conversation. “What do you think?” She asked, looking at Youngjae a little cautiously.

Youngjae smiled at her encouragingly. “I think it’s a good idea. It sounds like fun.”

“Good, I’m glad. Then we just have to ask Yongguk-ssi about inviting his girlfriend, right?” Misun asked, looking at Daehyun for confirmation.

“Actually, we already did. She came over to hyung’s apartment this weekend and we all got to meet her.” Daehyun said with a smile. “She made me food, so she’s a good person.”

“Dae, you can’t judge a person’s quality of character based on whether or not they cook for you.” Youngjae replied with a roll of his eyes.

Daehyun raised an eyebrow at his friend. “Yes, I can. For example, I can tell you aren’t a good person. You don’t cook for me.”

Youngjae looked at the other boy in exasperation. As he was about to carry on with a snarky comment, Misun’s giggling interrupted him. Both boys looked down at her in surprise.

“I’m sorry..” She said with a smile. “You just both looked so offended. It was perfect… Ah, we’re here.”

Before they knew it, the three of them were standing in front of a large arts and crafts store. “It looks like they close in an hour.” Youngjae said, reading a sign by the door.

Daehyun quickly grabbed Misun’s hand and began to pull her into the store. “Well then stop standing around, slowpoke. Let’s go!”

Though it seemed like a small gesture, the skin contact with Daehyun’s hand was a lot for Misun to handle. She could feel her heartbeat pick up it’s pace and her face grew warm. She her lips nervously, unsure of exactly what she was feeling at the moment. So instead she decided to focus on the task at hand.

“Okay, what do you need?” Daehyun asked as he stopped at the beginning of the fabric section.

“Alright…” Misun pulled out her phone and looked at her notes. “To start, I'm going to need a lot of yellow satin, white muslin, black bottomweight and suede, and blue suiting as well.”

Youngjae and Daehyun just stared blankly at Misun for a good five seconds.

“What's muscle-in?” Daehyun asked, tilting his head to the side.

Misun blinked at them and smiled a little. “It's a type of fabric. How about you guys just carry everything?”

“Yes, ma’am!” Both boys stood at attention and saluted. Misun nodded and turned away to start sorting through the racks.

She combed through the aisles, comparing varying shades and textures of the fabrics. As she decided on certain fabrics, she would pull them off of the shelves and hand them to one of the boys. More than a few times, Misun would look back and find them goofing off. Daehyun had wrapped the yellow satin around Youngjae like a dress at one point. Later, Youngjae had wrapped the white fabric around the other boy like a skirt. They would take pictures of each other modeling their own designs. As she saw their antics, Misun couldn’t help but smile. It had been a while since she had had fun with anyone besides Himchan. Eventually they roped her into their mini fashion show, snapping some pictures with her as well.

With arms laden with materials, the two boys followed Misun to the cutting counter, where the old lady behind the desk quickly cut the requested dimensions. And thus, in under thirty minutes, the small group was in and out of the fabric store.

“We can help you carry these to your apartment, Misun-ah.” Daehyun offered with a smile as he adjusted the bags in his hands. They had two bags each, all full of fabric, zippers, buttons, and materials.

“No, it’s so late!” Misun immediately turned down the offer. “You’ve already helped me out enough just by coming along and spending time with me. I couldn’t ask you to waste any more of your time tonight.”

Both boys stopped and just stared at her.

“Misun-ah, spending time with you is not a waste.” Daehyun said, his brows knit together in strong disagreement.

Youngjae had a similar expression as he tried to reason with the girl. “Besides, our apartment is only a five-minute walk away from your’s. It’s not a burden on us at all.”

“But still…” Misun looked down, unsure of how to argue her point. “I’m too boring to waste an entire night on. I don’t need you guys to help me out of pity. It’s okay, really.”

Daehyun frowned even more. How could such an amazing person think so lowly of themselves? He exchanged glances with Youngjae and the two telepathically decided to try the tactic from earlier.

“Please let us come!” “Misun-aaaaahhhhhh, pleaseeeeeeeeeee” They whined at the girl in unison while she gave them an exasperated look.

“Alright! Alright! You can come…” She finally gave in and turned away. The boys smiled at each other and fell into step next to her, Daehyun on her right side, and Youngjae on her left.

Daehyun looked down at Misun and noticed her phone in the side pocket of her backpack. “Misun-ah, can I see your phone for a moment?” He asked, putting all of his bags into his left hand.

She looked up in slight confusion. “Sure..? Why?” Daehyun took her bags as she reached back to grab her phone. She quickly unlocked it and traded it for her bags with Daehyun.

Daehyun typed away for a few seconds before a light ping was heard from his own phone. Smiling in satisfaction, he handed the phone back to her. “There, now we have each other’s numbers. Just in case you need me for something.”

Misun blinked at him and a light blush rose up on her cheeks. “Th-thanks..”

Along the way, Daehyun and Youngjae chatted comfortably with each other about the day’s classes and the homework that they had for tomorrow. Both of them were arts and majors, though Daehyun was in the music department while Youngjae was in the art department.

“What about you, Misun-ah?” Daehyun asked, directing his attention to the girl in between them.

“Huh?” She looked up out of her reverie.

“What’s your major?” Youngjae elaborated. Both of them wanted to know more about this girl. Himchan wasn’t the type to spill secrets, so he rarely talked about Misun. But when he did, it was always interesting.

“Oh. I’m an English major.” She said as they turned down her street. They looked at her in surprise. “What?” She asked self consciously.

Youngjae smiled. “Nothing, we were just surprised. We thought you would be in the arts like us, since you’re in the theater club.”

“No, I joined the theater club because of.. A friend.” Misun paused for just a brief moment in her sentence, but both boys still noticed.

“Well now you have two friends in the club!” Daehyun said loudly, making the other two jump slightly.

They had just gotten to Misun’s apartment and she was unlocking the door. But then she stopped. “Really..?” She looked up in confusion and both boys rolled their eyes at her. “I mean, you don’t mind being around me?”

Daehyun raised an eyebrow at her. “We just spent the whole evening with you, what are you even talking about?”

Misun sighed as she finished opening the door and set her bags down inside. She then took the bags that the boys were carrying and did the same thing. “I mean, you really don’t have to go out of your ways to make me feel comfortable. I’m used to handling things on my own. It’s totally fine.” She looked up and gave them a small smile.

“It’s getting late, Dae. We should get going.” Youngjae said with a small sigh. He knew that this was not something that they could convince this girl of over the matter of a few hours. But he also knew that Daehyun would stay until she saw things his way if Youngjae let him.

“Alright, just one more thing.” Daehyun looked at his best friend and they shared another silent conversation.

Youngjae just shrugged and nodded. “See you later, Misun-ah. Have a good night!” He waved and Misun nodded while waving back.

“Good night, Youngjae-ssi. Thank you for your help tonight.”

Finally, it was just Daehyun and Misun. She tilted her head to the side, wondering what he was still doing at her door.

“I will be quick, I promise.” Daehyun said, looking her in the eyes. He reached out and held onto both of her shoulders. “Misun-ah, you are a worthwhile person. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You work hard, you try your best, and I’ve been watching you for a while so I know that you’re a good person. You deserve better friends than Sooyeon. You deserve happiness, Misun-ah.” With that, he bravely pulled her into a tight hug, his arms going around her shoulders.

For a few moments, no one said anything or moved. Daehyun sighed and pulled away. Misun wouldn’t look him in the eyes, but that was okay with him. He knew she would take time to process what he said.

“Sleep well, Misun-ah. I’ll see you at school, okay?” Daehyun stepped back and Misun finally looked up. Her eyes showed her conflicting feelings and confusion clearly.

“I’ll see you at school. Good night, Daehyun oppa.” She said quietly before stepping back and closing the door silently.

Daehyun stood there for a second as realization hit him. She had called him oppa. A wide grin broke out onto his face as he walked down the stairs to where Youngjae was waiting for him.
