Chapter 6

You

“Alright everyone, that’s it for the meeting today. On Wednesday we’ll start costume development, so please talk to Misun if you have any changes that you need to make to your costumes.” The club president made his announcement and everyone looked to the back of the room toward Misun. She waved in acknowledgement, though she highly doubted many would remember who she was. As she looked around the room, Misun’s gaze landed on Daehyun. He flashed a broad, encouraging smile at her before returning his attention to the club president. “If you haven’t been measured yet, please see Misun about that, as well. Okay, that’s all.”

The group began to disperse and Misun gathered up her things. As she slung her bag over her shoulder, Sooyeon walked over to her. The girl looked her up and down before she spoke. “You’re not going to make my outfit look stupid, right?”

Misun rolled her eyes. “No, Sooyeon. Your outfit will be of the same quality as everyone else’s. If you have a problem with that, make the outfit yourself.” Misun turned and walked away, hurrying to leave the crowded club room.

Having to interact with Sooyeon every week was not something that Misun was looking forward to. She had to let off some steam somehow. Her feet naturally carried her to the gym where she attacked her punching bag with everything she had.

“That's how people get hurt, you know.” A feminine voice said from behind her, loud enough to be heard over the music bursting from Misun’s headphones. She continued punching, hoping the intruder would just go away. This was something she needed to do. She needed to feel something that wasn't just the constant turmoil she felt in her heart.

It was quiet for several minutes as Misun continued to pummel the bag. When she thought the girl was gone, she loosened up again and began bouncing around the bag. Suddenly she caught a glimpse of red hair out of the corner of her eye, startling her. Misun jumped and pulled an headphone out of her ear.

“Can I help you?” She asked in a wary voice as she caught her breath.

The tall girl looked around in mock surprise with her hazel blue eyes before pointing to herself. “Who, me? Oh, so you're not ignoring me anymore?” She grinned as she walked closer.

“Look, I'm not in the mood to play games-”

“Not with these hands, you're not.” The girl was close enough and she grabbed Misun’s right hand. She held it up to show her what had happened to her own hand.

“Oh…” Misun watched as blood dripped from the fresh wounds on her knuckles. She hadn’t even noticed that she was tearing up her skin as she pummeled away on the bag.

“This is why people wear gloves or tape, idiot.” The red haired girl said while shaking her head in disapproval. When Misun still didn't respond the girl showed a small smile. “Come on, let's go clean you up.” The mystery girl dragged Misun along behind her to the bathroom. Along the way, the girl swiftly grabbed the first aid kit from the office without letting go of Misun’s hand.

In the bathroom, the girl pulled Misun to put both of her hands in the sink. “This may sting a little, but bear with me.” She said as she poured hydrogen peroxide all over the wounded area. Misun jumped and let out a yelp as the chemicals went to work cleaning her cuts. “Sorry, sorry..” The other girl muttered as she grabbed some gauze and began drying each hand individually. She then expertly wrapped Misun’s hands in gauze and tape. Throughout the whole thing, neither girl said anything else, but it didn’t feel awkward. Instead it was oddly comfortable. The tall girl had a calming presence that Misun couldn’t help but like. It wasn’t something she had run into before.

“There we go. All done.” The redhead packed away the rest of the first aid materials and stepped away from the sink. “Be more careful next time, okay?”

Misun looked up and nodded. “Thanks…” She muttered, feeling slightly ashamed that she had to have someone else bandage her up.

“Anytime! See you.” The girl waved and just like that, turned and left.

In a daze, Misun just stared at the door for a moment. Then she shook her head and collected herself before walking out of the bathroom. She grabbed her bag from the gym and decided to leave campus for the day.

As she walked through the halls, she wasn’t paying much attention to where she was going. She was still thinking back to the girl with red hair. “Why was she so nice to me? She must have some kind of ulterior motive or something.” Meeting someone so relaxed and calming was strange to Misun. It wasn’t a normal, everyday encounter.

Male laughter cut through her thoughts and the next thing she knew, Misun walked right into someone. The person was sturdy, so she bounced off of them like rubber. Luckily, this person was quick enough to grab her before she fell.

“Oh? Misun-ah? What are you still doing on campus?” Misun looked up and met Daehyun’s surprised eyes. He let go and noticed the bandages on her hands.

“Ohmygod what happened?! Did you get in a fight?” Youngjae practically shouted in surprise as he looked over Daehyun’s shoulder.

“Do we need to go beat someone up for you?” Daehyun offered.

“Because we can totally do that.” Youngjae added, seeming to be on the same wavelength as Daehyun.

Both boys looked at Misun with concern until she finally shook her head, a small smile on her lips. “No, no. I’m okay. I was just attacking my punching bag a little too hard is all. A nice girl helped patch me up. I’ll be fine.” Misun’s smile grew as she mentioned the mystery girl and this helped relax the boys.

“Oh! Before I forget-” Daehyun totally jumped trains of thought and took his backpack off. He knelt down on the ground with it and rummaged through until he found what he was looking for. Daehyun looked up at Misun and offered her a spiral-bound black notebook. “This is for you.”

“What is it?” Misun tilted her head and took the book with both hands. She opened to the middle and saw blank drawing paper.

“It’s a new sketchbook. To replace the damaged one.” Daehyun said, standing up to be on eye level with everyone again.

Misun looked up at him with wide eyes. “What? No, I can’t accept this from you, Daehyun-ssi! It must have been expensive…” Even as she said this, Misun couldn’t help but hold the book tighter.

Both Youngjae and Daehyun chuckled. “Just keep it, Misun-ah. He debated for a good ten minutes on which one to buy.” Youngjae said with a sassy grin.

Daehyun looked at him with murderous eyes. “You…!” He pushed Youngjae, making the other laugh loudly.

After a moment of watching the two play-fight, Misun smiled and held the book tightly to her chest. “Alright. Thank you, Daehyun-ssi. I will use it well.”

Daehyun stopped fighting with his friend and looked up with a light blush across his cheeks. “Ah, well.. Yeah. Please do.” He smiled and scratched the back of his head, making Youngjae howl with laughter.

Suddenly Misun’s phone began to ring. “Excuse me for one second.” She told the two boys apologetically. They just smiled and nodded while Misun answered the call.

Less than two minutes later, Misun hung up and looked at the two still waiting for her. “I have to go buy the fabrics for the club now.” She began.

“What, all by yourself?” Daehyun asked with a frown, which Youngjae mirrored as well.

Misun looked at them weirdly. “Yes..? It’s not like I have anyone to go with me.”

“But it’s getting dark outside.” Youngjae said, looking out the hallway window.

Misun glanced out the window and nodded. “Yeah, but can’t do it tomorrow. I have classes all day. So it has to be tonight.”

Youngjae and Daehyun quickly looked at each other and nodded. “We’ll go with you.” Daehyun said, smiling at Misun.

“Eh?” The girl took a moment to register what he had just said. “No, no! You don’t have to do that! I can handle it by myself.”

The boys immediately tried a different tactic.

“Pleeeaseeeee?” “We wanna go with youuu” With strong aegyo, Daehyun and Youngjae begged obnoxiously. Misun looked around with wide eyes, worried that they would be disturbing other people. When she didn’t reply right away, the two continued even louder.

“Alright, alright! Fine, you can come..” Misun said, trying not to smile at these two goofballs.

“Yes!” Youngjae and Daehyun high-fived, ready to go on this mini adventure with their new friend.
