Visit to the Orphanage
Falling in-love...after getting divorced?!"Take good care of everything around here while we're gone, okay?" I overheard Lee-seonsaeng tell the interns.
We were going to the orphanage just outside Seoul to do some charity work.
Apparently, every year, the hospital sends at least five doctors there to motivate the kids and also check their health.
I, of course, volunteered to go.
I never forgot once the real reason why I decided to become a doctor.
People thought it was just so that I could be with Kyuhyun, since he was the one who decided to be a doctor first.
But I also decided to be a doctor for my own reasons.
I wanted to help people.
There's no other feeling in the world that can quite compare to knowing that you have the ability to heal.
It's what I wanted to do.
"Okay, seonsaengnimdeul, please get into the car~!"
Kim-seonsaeng wanted to drive, no matter how much the men asked her to sit back and relax.
I'm pretty sure they meant well, but Kim-seonsaeng took it the wrong way.
Her exact words were: "Just because I'm a woman, you don't think I can drive?"
So then of course, they relented.
Lee-seonsaeng sat on the passengers seat.
"Seo-seonsaeng, do you mind if I sit at the side?
I can't sit in the middle, I get car sick,"
Yoon seonsaeng said.
"Uhm, okay then...?"
Why did it sound like there was a question mark at the end of my sentence?
Yoon-seonsaeng smiled gratefully and got on first.
I was about to hop on too, but someone held me back.
I turned around.
It was Kyuhyun.
He...was holding my hand.
I quickly shook his hand off, because I knew people were giving us looks.
I looked away, pretending not to care.
My heart picked up its pace though.
I can't remember the last time he held my hand since the divorce.
I saw Kyuhyun turn to Yoon-seonsaeng at the corner of my eyes.
"Yoon-seonsaeng, Seo-seonsaeng gets easily car sick too.
I'll sit in the middle next to you for today," he spoke, calmly.
He walked pass me and sat down.
I got on after him, deciding not to argue.
[♥]———————[♥]
"Next please," I called.
In came a cute little girl who had the prettiest smile on.
She was wearin a polka-dotted dress and her straight hair was tied up into pigtails with cherry hair ties.
I couldn't help but smile too.
"Hello, you must be Jung Sujeong-ssi,"
I crouched down to meet at her eye level.
"Annyeonghaseyo, Euisa*-seonsaengnim," she bowed deeply.
So cute!
I laughed.
"Annyeonghaseyo~" I bowed back.
"Will you mind sitting on this chair for me please?" I asked.
She nodded and climbed up the patient's chair.
I looked at the charts first.
"Sujeong-ssi, will you mind if I put this stethoscope against your chest?" I asked.
"No, It's fine~" she replied.
I put the stethoscope against her little chest and listened.
I could easily hear the thumping of her heart.
I smiled.
"You have a very healthy heart there," I said.
She smiled back.
And then I wondered, why would anyone want to throw this healthy and beautiful child away?
"Seonsaengnim~" she said.
"Ne~?" I asked.
"You look sad," she frowned.
I...was shocked at this little girl's insight.
I had the 'legendary composure' on, so how could she tell?
I could only laugh.
"I'm sorry~
I only remembered someone from the past," I told her.
"Who?" she asked, curiously.
"My daughter," I replied.
