Falling in-love...after getting divorced?!"Seonsaengnim, another patient's just come in.
He was found drunk on the streets by the police.
He seems to have hit his head and we're afraid he might have internal bleeding."
Gain-ssi, one of the younger paramedics, talked me through the situation fast as if her own life depended on it.
She handed me the charts just as quickly and I scanned my eyes through it.
"He might've hit his head when he collapsed from drinking too much," I muttered.
"Yes, that's what we were thinking," she said as she and two more paramedics helped the patient to the bed.
I could see some blood oozing out.
"Oh no, don't so that," I muttered to myself.
The young 23-year-old boy looked so out of it.
"Check his vital signs, stat.
Hyoyeon-ssi, please help me clean this mess up," I said, ever so calm.
Well, it wasn't like it was the first time I had a case like this.
I did this almost everyday for the past two years before taking a break to travel the world.
I could handle at least that much.
[♥]———————[♥]
I walked at the side of the hallway, tired and exhausted.
I gently pounded on my arms and legs, and then at the back of my neck.
All the areas that hurt the most.
I had no more energy in me, and it seemed like the only reason I was able to still walk was because of pure instinct.
Otherwise, I was just a walking zombie.
"Seo-seonsaeng,"
A voice called me from behind.
I turned around.
It was Lee-seonsaengnim.
She smiled at me kindly.
Then I wondered how she gathered enough strength for that.
"You've been working double shifts and maintained your strength for that long.
Take a rest at the staff room first before Yoon-seonsaeng comes.
It's been hard on you," she said.
"No. not at all.
I'm fine," I said.
"I can still work."
She laughed quietly.
"Even Superman needs rest, seonsaengnim," she said.
"It's 4:30 in the morning, so I doubt anyone will come in this late.
If they do, I can take care of them."
She was really kind.
I had no choice but to take her offer, since it looked like she wasn't going to take no for an answer and my body just ached all over.
"Well, okay then..." I mumbled.
She gave me a satisfied pat on the back.
"If you're hungry, there's bibimbap in the ref,"
Bibimbap?
It's just what I needed.
My tummy rumbled softly.
I put a hand over it, embarrassed.
Lee-seonsaengnim laughed.
I bowed to her and so did she.
I walked a couple of more metres and made my way into the staff room.
I pulled out a chair and collapsed my head and arms onto the table.
My head hurt.
My arms and feet ached.
I was hungry, but now that I'm lying here comfortably, I didn't have enough energy in me to get up and heat the bibimbap up.
My eyes wanted to close, but I couldn't seem to get to sleep.
It was probably because of all the coffee I had.
What's wrong with me?
Has six months away from work made me lazy all of a sudden?
Ouch.
The back of my neck hurt, but my arms were too tired to move...
"Ack!" I yelled in surprise.
Something cold touched the back of my neck and I sprung right up.
Like a dead coming back to life.
I turned around to see the person who I most probably didn't want to see.
"Tired?" Kyuhyun asked.
I nodded.
He passed me a can of orange juice.
So that's what he used to wake me up.
I took and opened it, but I didn't drink it.
"What are you doing here?
Isn't it your day off today?" I asked.
It looked like I caught him off-guard.
"Uhm, yeah, well...
I just...forgot something in my locker and I absolutely had to just...get it,"
Tch.
What a lame excuse.
Who goes to work at 4 in the morning to get something from their locker?
I decided not to say anything since I didn't have the energy to.
I took a sip from my drink.
Suddenly, he puts a hand at the back of my neck and starts pressing on it.
It felt good, but I didn't want to stay like that.
I guess I was afraid that if I got comfortable enough, I wouldn't want him to leave me again.
"What are you doing?" I demanded.
I gently pushed his arm out of the way.
"You always get aches at the back of your neck," he said.
"and this always seems to work."
"Yeah, but we're not married anymore.
What if people saw us like this?
What would they think?"
Kyuhyun withdrew and I sat back on my chair.
Ow, I think I clicked something.
I rubbed the back of my neck.
Kyuhyun sighed frustratedly.
"I knew it.
Why did you even take on a double shift?
You're not used to it.
You should've just let me take it," he said.
I sighed.
When we were married, Kyuhyun never liked it when I overwork myself.
He didn't let me take double shifts either.
But then again, we're not married anymore.
But he still annoyed me when he looked at our roster earlier that week, saying he'd like to swap with me.
Of course, people got curious, so I didn't want to.
My tummy rumbled.
Kyuhyun laughed.
"You're hungry, right?" he smirked.
He walked up to the refrigerator and took out a doshirak.
I looked at him curiously.
"Bibimbap," he smiled.
He stuffed it into the microwave to heat it up.
"I made some for you.
You like eating bibimbap after work," he said.
He stood in front of the microwave, waiting for it to finish.
Why...is he acting like this?
What's wrong with him?
We're not married anymore, and I thought he didn't care, so why?
Why is he acting like we're still together?
Is it just old habits?
Well, we were together for a long long time.
I guess...he still can't get rid of those habits.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked.
He turned to me, but then the microwave beeped.
He took the doshirak out and put it on the table in front of me.
He pulled out a spoon from the drawer and handed it to me.
I stared at it for a while, but then I gladly accepted it.
I stuffed my face with bibimbap.
I didn't know I was that hungry!
Kyuhyun suddenly laughed quietly, but I heard it.
I looked up at him, blinking.
"You've got..." he pointed all over his face.
He leaned forward and wiped the sides of my mouth with his thumb, stained with red from the gochujang.
He was looking at me and smiling as he did this.
And as for me, I don't know why but I didn't move.
For some reason, I stayed completely still and let him.
I withdrew back and he looked up at me, startled.
I bit my bottom lip.
All of a sudden, his face turned serious.
He pulled a chair next to me and sat down.
He looked me in the eyes, which I couldn't escape from.
"Seohyun~"
He said it so soft and warm that my heart fluttered.
"I don't...want us to be like this.
I just..."
He trailed off.
Again.
"Everything was my fault, and I'm sorry for that.
But...even though I know we can't be how we were before, can we at least stay friends?"
He looked down and shut his eyes, like he did something he shouldn't have.
I sighed.
"It's definitely going to make the 'getting over' part harder, but at least we won't be yelling at each others' face all the time.
So yeah, I'd like to be friends," I smiled.
He looked up and met my eyes.
He smiled back.

(A/N) Okay, so I originally planned to have five chapters, but as always, that doesn't go as planned, so I'm just gonna have to make it a little bit longer.
You guys won't mind, right?
