I walked slowly with my eyes closed as my head throbbed.

"Seo-seonsaeng, are you okay?" Hani, the receptionist, asked.

I leaned over the front desk for support.

I could only force a smile.

"I'm in the middle of a 12-hour shift right now," I told her.

She giggled behind the palm of her hand.

"Oh no, don't let Cho-seonsaeng catch you," she gushed with an amused smile.

I laughed.

Everyone knows how over-protective Kyuhyun was of me, and I'm not really sure it's a good thing.

They all have this crazy 'feeling' that he's somehow in-love with me.

Well, maybe before he did.

But not anymore.

At least, not now.

"Seonsaengnim, are you okay?" she asked.

I gulped hard and nodded.

Hani sighed, though she didn't look convinced.

I smiled to myself.

I envied the pretty, cute girl who stood in front of me very much.

And that pretty little sparkle in her eyes...

What I'd do to be that young and innocent again...

"Oh yes, seonsaengnim," she broke through my thoughts.

"A 'Mrs. Cho' came to see you."

I immediately shot up.

It was like an alarm siren went off in my head.

"Mrs...Cho?"

I kept my gaze down the whole time as the refined lady took a sip from her tea.

The silence between us grew awkwardly, to the point where the only thing you could hear was the clinking sound the teacup made as she put it down on the table.

"This is a very nice workplace you have here," she said.

"Thank you," I told her, though my eyes were fixated to the ground.

I waited for her to say more, but there was a long silent pause.

"So, how did your travelling go?

Did you see all the places you wanted to see?" she asked again.

Her tone of voice, the smile I saw her wear at the corner of my eyes, and her kind questions that asked how I was...felt all so wrong to me.

I've been so used to her ignoring me, acting like I wasn't there, that when she suddenly talked to me this way, it just felt weird.

I knew for a fact that no one was as happy about the divorce as my mother-in-law.

My then-mother-in-law.

"What's your real reason for coming here, eomeoni*?" I asked, calmly.

She scoffed a sarcastic laugh.

"This is why I don't like you, Seohyun-ssi.

You're always too direct and calm.

Your approach to everything is...the same," she said.

I gulped hard.

I held back the tears that I felt was coming, and as always, I did a great job of keeping my 'legendary composure' on.

"Ah, maybe three years of not apeaking to you face to face makes me forget," she muttered to herself.

"No matter.

Since you like it that way, then I'll give it to you,"

I looked up for the first time, knowing that whatever she wanted to say seemed serious.

"Disappear out of our lives," she said firmly.

I froze as I gritted my teeth behind my lips.

"You went almost everywhere when you were travelling.

I'm sure there's at least one place that you felt like staying at.

I'll even pay for the expenses."

I didn't say anything but stayed completely still.

"If you don't like that idea, then what about a transfer?

I'll help you get a job at the top hospital in the States.

I'm pretty sure no doctor wants to pass up on an opportunity like that."

My head was swirling around me.

I just wished she would stop talking, but she just went on and on and on that my head ached more than it did before.

I swallowed and closed my eyes harshly.

Even then, she wouldn't stop talking about 'endless opportunities' and 'big salaries'.

When I had enough, I put a hand up, begging her to stop.

She shut .

"I appreciate the offers, but I can't.

I'm sorry,"

Those were the only words I managed to spit out that time.

Though they seemed insensitive and impolite, I couldn't help it.

My head hurt from the migraine I somehow managed to develop.

I took a couple of deep breaths to calm myself.

"I know how much you want me to go," I began.

"Good then, there's no reason for you to go to Ara's birthday party or any other family-related events for that matter," she cut in.

Family-related events.

When she put it that way, I felt my insides hurl.

She slapped the fact on my face that I'm not part of that family anymore.

I'm just an outsider...forcing myself in.

"Please let me go to Ara's Birthday party," I said, the strength in my voice wavering.

"I promised Kyuhyun I would go."

Eomeoni raised a brow on me, her red lips pursued.

"In my whole life, the only promise I didn't keep from Kyuhyun was when I said 'I do' in front of the altar.

I'm not planning to break anymore promises," I said.

I got up and bowed.

Eomeoni jumped to her feet.

"You're going to be like this?" she fumed.

"You're seriously thinking of going up against me?"

I swallowed hard, like stones were stuck halfway down my throat.

"I tried letting Eomeoni have her way once, and look where I ended up," I spoke softly.

I looked up into her brown eyes that was filled with twisted up anger.

"I'm unhappy," I said.
