Chapter 3
My Heart Beats After Thousands of Years"You....must be mistaken, Your Majesty." I hurriedly splattered out. "I - I don't understand."
He just let out a booming laugh. "I can understand your confusion. I know you're geared more towards the battlefield, but I need your qualities for this."
You have no idea my reasons.
"But, Your Highness, surely there is someone better for this job than I am." I tried to reason. I needed to get out of this sticky situation before I endanger myself and everyone else.
"No, no, no. I have seen your skills, and quite frankly you might be the only one to be able to handle my bratty daughter." He said wearily, sparing his daughter a quick glance.
Soojung only puffed nonchalantly in return.
I kept ping ponging my eyes between father and daughter.
Hell, what am I about to get into?
I couldn't really refuse the Emperor's wishes now could I?
I signed in defeat. "Of course, your Majesty." I bowed in agreement.
"Great! Pack your things; you shall leave with us soon. I have already let your commanders know." With that he whisked out of the tent without a second glance. I was left besides myself thinking over and over what the hell in the heavens constituted my misfortunate with this little job. Furthermore, I didn't even know what this job entitled besides the small inclination of protecting the Emperor's supposed "bratty" daughter.
Speaking of daughter, Soojung had not left yet and satin one of the chairs unmoved, staring intently at me silently. The silence between us proved many things to me.
(1) I would rather face thousands of enemy men than stand this silence.
(2) We were sizing up each other and raging a telepathic war of who is superior.
(3) This reminded me that I would be away from battle and instead trade in a life of an aristocrat. Fun.
(4) That gleam in the princess's eyes spelled trouble.
And
(5) That smirk coupled with her gleaming eyes only meant she was going to make my life Hell while acting like an innocent kitten.
I had a feeling that dealing with her would be my worse battle yet.
She stood up and sauntered my way with a sway of her hips. I stood my ground as I watched her come towards me.
