Chapter Five
Reclaiming His Lost PrincessA pair of arms snakes around his waist followed by the voice he had been accustomed to wake up to, “Aren’t you cold in here?”
“As long as I am with you, I will never get cold,” then he pulls her upfront, hugging her from the back as she leans comfortably in his arms. They stayed in the balcony, watching the falling rain.
Everything started to run back inside Chanyeol’s head like a video tape he personally recorded.
*Flashback* (Chanyeol’s POV)
I was so scared the moment I learned she will have to be flown abroad for her another surgery. I had to tell mother right away that I will join the Choi in going abroad that very evening.
The moment we arrived in Budapest, we head straight to the hospital and the surgery proceeds immediately. Right after the said surgery, the real waiting started.
For three months, she’s completely out, in a state of coma. Every day, we have pray for her to wake up. I had moved on a nice hotel nearby, enrolled in college but then I always visit them; talking to her like she could hear me. I would tell her about my day, what are the happenings around her, the places she needs to see when she wakes up just to fill in the fear that has been gnawing inside me.
Finally, after the long wait, she woke up. But no one knows it is another thing to worry about.
I was alone with her when she finally gains consciousness, immediately able to speak but asks the question I thought I would never hear from her.
“Who are you?”
I had to stop myself from getting panic, calmly introducing myself, “Don’t you remember me? I am Chanyeol,” I replied, shaken from her loss of memory. I thought she will ask about who her parents are but she suddenly looks for them.
“Where are Mom and Dad? I need to speak to them. Why am I in here? Why am I in this bed? What happened to me? I need to see Mom and Dad….” And she starts getting hysterical, screaming for her mother and father.
Mr. and Mrs. Choi thankfully arrived, surprised at her being hysterical. It’s only Mrs. Yoonsoo who finally managed to calm her. The doctors have been called and they convened with Mr. Jisun about Sooyoung’s condition.
That’s when I felt so insignificant; felt like I got inside the wrong room. She looks so scared even by just looking at me. I had to endure the whole month without talking her; just checking on her when she’s asleep.
Mrs. Yoonsoo filled her with made-up stories about why she is in there just to reduce the time they have to be in the hospital .It took a month before she finally gets discharged. Just as what Mr. Jisun wanted, they took the spare cottage near the small cottage where I transferred.
That’s when I finally started my way to talk to her without scaring her. I felt relieved when she apologized to me the very first time we get to talk. Her parents invited me over for dinner; having the alibi that I am the only Korean they know near the place.
That was the start of my way in earning her trust once again. I admit it’s not that hard since she is just so friendly. I started filling her with information about how we were schoolmates in high school, leaving out certain details which I prefer not to mention.
I don’t know if I should be thankful that she lost just a portion of her memory or be saddened about it. It’s that mixed emotion wherein I am thankful that she can’t remember him but saddened that I am part of that irretrievable memory. Nevertheless, I
