30 - The Dawn

The sun was rising quickly and she could see him burning, his skin smoking into a light gray mist. Instinctively, she took off her top and covered his arm, anxiously covering any parts she could salvage from the murderous luminescence. Hwanuk giggled at her innocence, pulling her face closer as he whispered.

 

“You’ll sleep fine at night if you remember what I say today.” he looked into her eyes which had turned translucent under the light of the sun. And it took his breath away, keeping him silent for a while as he swallowed it all up. Her image, her breath, how soft her skin was against his fingers and her light, fluffy orange hair. 

 

“Today is the day I die,” he said. Hawol mauled, pushing her face into his chest as she clamped her jaw, silencing her pain so she could listen to his voice. His last words. 

 

“And you’re going to remember it like this…” he paused, swallowing a growing lump in his throat.

 

“I’m going in your arms. I’m going in a way I decide and I’m so..” he choked, tears streaming down his neck as he tried to calm down. 

 

“I’m sorry I can’t stay. But nothing makes me happier than to die beside you. You know, I thought that I would just fade, all alone in that stupid garage. And a part of me hated the fact that I never had the effort to leave, maybe I could’ve met you earlier. Maybe we could stay like this longer…” he stopped, he breathed but the air was deep and thick. It was happening. 

 

The excruciating pain was searing into his flesh and he could feel his soul burning in flames. The sunlight grew brighter while he grew weaker. 

 

“Hwanuk..” Hawol caught on, she could see him drifting away into the thin air. Everything was turning to dust, even his long, black eyelashes. They were fading away and so she held his waist closer, nuzzled her nose deeper into his neck as she relished the last moments they had. 

 

“But I regret nothing. Because I get to meet you and spend time with you there. So it's okay.” he said, calming down as
