Way Back Home

warning; typos lol sorry :c (note; Ken is Vixx's Jaehwan/Ken. lol whut)

Jinyoung woke up with a huge white fluffy pillow tucked tight against his chest. The bed was just too comfy that he somehow wished that he could marry it. He slowly fluttered his eyes open and allowed all the zesty smell of a cold, rainy Friday morning immerse in his senses. It feels so different this time. This is his first official day as a Tuan. Jinyoung yawned alongside with a stretch. Since he was lying on his right side, he stretched his left arm on the side when he accidentally hit a soft thing beside him. With all his curiosity, he turned around completely and saw Mark, sitting next to him with a warm beam.

Mark looks so glorious and that’s how Jinyoung categorized it despite the fact that he’s still not fully aware of his thoughts. His brown locks are pushed down, almost covering his eyes. His lips are plump and very pink; signs that he’s not a smoker. “Rise and shine!” Mark greeted as Jinyoung stared at him with full admiration. It was 101% odd to think that he’s getting nervous just by seeing Mark sitting in his bed that morning. There’s a very enigmatic tension that he wished to fade because he might faint without any particular reason.

“W-why are you h-here?” Jinyoung questioned, pulling himself into a sitting position and lifting the covers up to cover his upper body. There’s nothing to hide anyway. He slept wearing pajamas and a tank top that they bought. Maybe he’s ashamed to show the other how unchiselled his body was compared to Mark. “I’m picking you up. Let’s go down together for breakfast.” The elder offered with a hand launched in front of the still sleepy yet uneasy Jinyoung. He was about to decline and cover it up with a simple ‘Go ahead. I’ll follow’ because having Mark in the same room, same bed as his gave him plenty of uncanny feels when all of a sudden his stomach begun to grumble loudly.

Mark chuckled beautifully, emphasis on the ‘beautifully.’  Without any warning, he pulled Jinyoung’s hand under the sheets and tugged the boy off the bed.  The younger almost stumbled when he accidently walked over his blanket. Mark seemed to be really excited that he didn’t even gave Jinyoung a chance to wear his slippers properly or even grab a presentable piece of jacket. They left the room and begun walking through the hallway. Finally, Jinyoung spoke. “Are you in a hurry? You should’ve allowed me to groom first.” He complained, annoyed a little.

The elder let go of Jinyoung’s hand after few seconds and blushing after realizing that he’s been holding it for too long. “I’m sorry. I just can’t wait to see my family’s reaction during our first breakfast with you. This is going to be fun.” Mark commented while looking at random corners, avoiding Jinyoung’s gaze.  The other boy stopped and glared at Mark.

“But I look like a skinny vagabond. I was planning to grab a jacket to cover myself but you’re rushing so…yeah nevermind.”

Mark pinched his cheek. All of a sudden, another weird feeling lingered on Jinyoung’s body.  His knees stiffened and his mouth dried out. Mark laughed and with a warm smile, he removed his red sweater and wore it around Jinyoung’s head before completely pulling and fitting it against the younger’s body. “Sharing is caring, brother dear.” And he circled and arm around Jinyoung’s waist as they walked again.

Mark’s sweater fits him perfectly. It’s warm and soft .The loose shirt that remained on Mark’s upper body was too distracting; at least for Jinyoung. It was white and thinly hanging. But Jinyoung tried to shrug all his strange thoughts as soon as possible. Maybe it’s because of the weather, because they say that the weather affects people’s behaviour and thinking. But whatever it is, Jinyoung is still in doubt about all of it. They went down the stairs and every step brings them closer to the savoury aroma that’s probably their first meal. They reached the dining area and Jinyoung almost literally dropped his jaw. There’s a wide array of foods; pancakes, breads, bacons, sausages, fruits; name it, they have it. Way back, bread and maybe some hot stew would be enough to fill his needy morning appetite. But now, he might practice himself not to drool in front of the food for he’ll be experiencing this kind of perks from now on.

“Good Morning, Jinyoung! Good Morning Mark!” Their mother greeted with a huge smile that the two gave back. Mrs. Tuan really is a sweetheart. Mr. Tuan also smiled and asked Jinyoung about his sleep. They sat on a chair quite far from their parents and Mark took the initiative of taking the plates and placing the food on Jinyoung’s plate. Again, all the assistance from Mark felt so weird. Maybe he’s not used with the fact that someone’s serving him.

Their grandfather beamed at Jinyoung. “I can’t believe that we’re all together. This is amazing.” The old man cheered making all smile. He took a sip on his coffee and Mark gave Jinyoung’s hand a light squeeze under the table which made Jinyoung jolt. “Are you okay, Jinyoung?” Their father asked, wiping is lip before speaking, worried. The boy nervously shook his head and smiled for assurance. “I’m okay, dad.” And he never thought that calling him ‘dad’ would send shivers all over his body.

“Sorry we’re late. Anyway, good morning!” A voice from their back echoed and they all turned around. Jinyoung, who’s having a mixture of pancakes and bacon inside his mouth looked over as well. He saw a woman, approximately around 40-45 years old. She’s slim and she seemed strict. There’s also a boy around their age, he’s tall and good looking. They have similarities so Jinyoung assumed that they’re related, more like mother and son.

They sat on the chairs across the brothers. “Hi Jinyoung! Welcome to the family. I’m Ken. I’m your cousin.” The boy said with a smirk and a very perky voice. Jinyoung smiled back. “Nice to meet you, Ken.” he answered and suddenly there’s a comfortable feeling that he felt while taking to Ken. He’s a good guy, I assume. Ken looks good and Jinyoung can say that he’s as smart as Mark and he’s also a part of the corporation. “So, Mark…How’d you find him? I bet you had a hard time but I just want to remind you about your business proposal. There’s a meeting next week and you need to present all the plans precisely and clearly. ” Ken confidently said and it sent Mark to his edge, glaring sharply at his cousin.

“I know. I’m working on it. You don’t have to remind me.”

“Well, that’s great! You should show your best. Oh, that’s a thing that you’re good at; being a show off.” Ken remarked as he raised an eyebrow to Mark. The entire family seemed to freeze upon hearing the exchange of words from the young men. Jinyoung never thought that they would treat each other in a very rough way. He wanted to do something about it. He wanted to uplift the atmosphere somehow.  “Oh come on guys! It’s too early to talk about business! Let’s just eat! These pancakes are ier than me. Oh lord, I love these!” Jinyoung broke his silence and earned a low chuckle from their dad then followed by a loud laugh from their grandfather. A relief laid in his heart as his inborn wit eased the tension at moment. Ken’s mom remained silent, sipping onto her coffee. Mark took a deep breath and looked at Jinyoung, sending a ‘thank you’ just by a simple glimpse that the younger luckily understood.

The morning went on. Their usually dull conversations become more lively and noisy with Jinyoung. As we all know, Jinyoung is a very entertaining and witty person. He never runs out of topics. Mark and the whole family except Ken’s mother laughed their hearts out and with that, they concluded that this is the best way to start their mornings. At some point, Jinyoung realized that finally, he found another home in the Tuans. Not just a literal house, but a place where he can feel happy and loved. He loves the feeling despite the painful truth that one day, this entire family will curse him for pretending to be someone that’s not him.

“I have to go. Just call me if there’s any problem, okay?” Mark said as he walks Jinyoung back towards his room after having their breakfast and morning conversations. The younger nodded. In less than an hour, Mark will no longer be around and he’s afraid to spend some time with his new family without having Mark to back him up. What if he slips their secret? What if he accidently did a wrong move which might ruin everything that Mark planned?  The anxious expression was caught by the elder as he opened the door of Jinyoung’s room and pulled him in before locking the door again. “What’s the problem?” he asked, a bit worried as well.

Jinyoung sat on the bed and shot a look at the large window on his side. “I’m scared, Mark. I don’t know why. Can I just go with you? I won’t cause any trouble! I promise!”

Mark smiled and ruffled his hair lightly. “Okay! Fix yourself then. I’ll wait for you here.”

Jinyoung nodded vigorously and sprinted towards the bathroom with a towel on his hands. He showered too fast that he even forgot to scrub his body well. He will surely get all the blame if Mark gets late for work. In less than 5 minutes, he stepped out of the bathroom with only a towel wrapped around his waist to cover him body.  He was okay with it but when he recalled that Mark was still in his bed, he instantly blushed. “Mark…”Jinyoung called as he stepped back inside the bathroom and hid his body behind the door.

“Yup?” Mark replied.

“I’m…I’m…going out and I will dress up. Would you mind if ….”

A loud giggle was heard and it made Jinyoung blush even more. “But we’re both men! What’s the issue with that?” he jokingly replied.

Jinyoung was so embarrassed that he wished the ground can just swallow him completely. Mark has a point but for Jinyoung’s very conservative. “B-But..”

“I’m just kidding! Okay, I’ll meet you outside.” Mark said as footsteps begun to disappear. Jinyoung went out of the bathroom with shaky legs and uneven heart rate. He glanced at the mirror and stared at how red his cheeks were. It was really awkward. He wore a decent pair of jeans and a button up shirt. And sooner, he’s with Mark again as they bid goodbye to the maids and to his mother. “Mom, I’m bringing Jinyoungie with me.” Mark said, placing a kiss on his mom’s cheek and Jinyoung did the same.

“It’s nice to see my sons together.” She clapped her hands and smiled, almost cried. “Jinyoung, you don’t have to force yourself to work, okay? We understand you. We will always understand and support your decisions.” She added and it bought a huge amount of comfort in Jinyoung’s heart. It made him feel like he’s talking to his real mother. He missed his mom so much that he found himself crying and hugging Mrs. Tuan with tears rolling down on his cheeks. Mark rubbed his back. “Thank you, mom. Thank you.”

They rode the car and as usual Mark was driving. The streets are wet and the rain is pouring harder. It was just 8 in the morning but Jinyoung feels so sleepy again. “You can always treat me as a friend, Jinyoung. You don’t have to treat me like a real brother.” Mark suddenly said and it caught Jinyoung off guard. Jinyoung nodded. “I will introduce you to the company staff. Just be yourself, okay? I’ll be right beside you.” He added and Jinyoung nodded again.

They reached the office and they’re welcomed by all the staff and workers. They cheered and clapped their hands as Jinyoung went in. It seems like there’s a celebration for Jinyoung. “Welcome, Mr. Jethro Tuan!” the employees yelled and clapped with matching confetti flying towards random directions.  Jinyoung smiled and bowed to everyone as he cleared his throat.

“Thank you! But please call me Jinyoung. Anyway, thank you so much! I hope we can all be friends!”

And loud cheers from the employees are heard again. Mark grinned and looked for Bambam from a far. His assistant went closer to him as they talked for a while, leaving Jinyoung with the employees as the chat and introduce themselves. After few minutes, Mark excused Jinyoung as they went to Mark’s office.

“I’ll do some work here. I understand if you might want to mingle with some employees outside.” Mark stated while receiving some folders from Bam.

Jinyoung rested on a couch. “No! I’ll stay here. I will help you if I can. And I hope you don’t mind.”

Mark smiled. “Just rest. I know you’re still sleepy. I’ll wake you up for lunch.”

“This can’t be!” Ken yelled, throwing a glass filled with whiskey across his office. The noise wasn’t heard since the place is soundproof. His mother sat on the far corner with the same furry in her eyes. They can’t digest the truth that the lost son was found because all of them assumed that he’s no longer living. Another threat was found.  “I’m sure that their father would tell Jinyoung to join the company as well.” He added while walking from side to side and massaging his forehead.

His mother stood up. “You can defeat him easily if that happens. Mark is the only threat here, Ken.” His mother reminded.

“You know how grandpa longed for Jethro. And now that he’s here, I’m sure that he will push Jinyoung to enter the company and battle it out against me and Mark for the presidency!” Ken countered as more anger swallowed his heart. The title of being the next president of the Tuan Corporation is somehow up for grabs as their grandfather begun sending hints of possible retirement. He assigned Ken and Mark to do more research and tasks to test to determine their capabilities and potentials as the next president. But so far, Mark’s making more outstanding performances.

“I will do everything to get the position, mom. But I want it to be more exciting. I want to see how the three of us outshine each other. They’ll regret clashing their weapons against mine.”

It was now lunch when Jinyoung and Mark went down for something to eat. They walk pass the employees and they greeted each other warmly, loving how Jinyoung smile and be too friendly with the lower ranks and even with the lowest made Mark feel proud. He did a good decision after all. They rode the car and Mark drove towards a famous restaurant at the middle of the city. As they travel, Mark listened as Jinyoung tell stories on how happy he was while talking with the employees and how he felt during the small welcoming celebration. Mark never noticed that he’s been keeping the same wide smile throughout the journey. It’s indeed a genuine one.  They reached the restaurant and settled on a table at the second floor. It’s only them in the area. The place is very nice and it gives a full view of the scenery outside. It was so refreshing. “It’s nice here!”

“I know. I’m always here during lunch. It’s very relaxing!”

It didn’t take too long for the waiter to arrive. He gave the menu and Mark immediately placed his order. A very sumptuous pizza as usual and a large plate of seafood pasta good for two persons. Jinyoung added a glass of mango smoothie and a single serving of a creamy carbonara to take out. The waiter nodded and left. “You eat a lot.” Mark joked, reaching for his phone and checking if there’s a left message.

“The smoothie is for me, but the carbonara is for Bambam. I want to thank him for assisting my brother with his college admission. So allow me to pay at least for that.” He requested, leaving Mark with a smile. It was really good to know that Jinyoung has a very thoughtful heart.  Jinyoung stared at Mark for a while, getting lost into the elder’s tempting eyes. Really, it’s too much. “If your brother looks like you, that means he’s also handsome.” Jinyoung suddenly blurted out earing a giggle from Mark.

“So, you’re telling me I’m handsome?” Mark intrigued.

“Duh.” Jinyoung rolled his eyes and grinned.

Because saying ' hell yeah' is too mainstream.
