Chapter 9 : Oppa... Brother, When Will You Come Back?

College Life

[LeeTeuk POV]

Shoot, what time is it?

I tiptoed towards my door and pulled out the keys in my pocket while checking my watch.

2AM

Frick. I slowly turned the doorknob to the right and pushed the door open.

It made a loud creak as I did.

Why do doors always make loud noises in situations like this?

I sighed and shut the door behind me, quietly as possible.

Looking around the dorm, it didn't seem like TaeYeon was up.

I took a stride towards the kitchen and looked around.

The eggs that I had made in the morning were gone.

Looks like TaeYeon really ate it.
Smiling as I walked to the living room, I saw that TaeYeon wasn't there.

She must be using the one in her room now.

As I walked towards my room, I saw a light shimmering in the crack below TaeYeon's door.

Small chatter was coming out of her room, and it wasn't TaeYeon.

Why does TaeYeon need to watch TV to fall asleep?

I pondered the question in my mind as I opened my door and stepped in.

Everything seemed to be in perfect place.

Not a mess anyway, and it was in perfect condition.

I dropped my bag beside my bed and stretched.

What a long day.

I sighed and pulled the books out of my backpack and threw it to my desk as I walked towards it.

Everything had stayed the same.

Crumpled papers to TaeYeon on the side, textbooks in the middle, pens and pencils beside it.

I opened the book and tried to search for a sheet of paper.

The one HeeChul had given me yesterday after class.

The one about the bet.

But it wasn't in it.

I frowned and fell to the chair.

Where could it be?

Lifting all my books and notes up, I checked underneath them, hoping that it would appear.

I unraveled some of the crumpled papers.

I knew I didn't crumple it, but it doesn't hurt to try.

After the third one, I finally opened the correct one.

Sighing in relief, I pressed out the creases in the paper.

What was it doing in the pile of trash though?

[TaeYeon POV]

As the minutes passed, the sky outside got darker.

It went from sunny afternoon, to pitch black midnight.

It took a while to cool down from reading the note.

I realized that I shouldn't get mad at something so ridiculously.

I didn't even KNOW LeeTeuk.

Why would I get upset?

He was just another stupid boy.

I sighed and pushed myself off the couch, walking towards my room, grabbing my clothes and went to the washroom.

After I took a shower and brushed my teeth, I dragged my feet back to my bedroom and dropped all the dirty clothes in my basket.

By the time I got comfortable on the bed, I realized that my TV was finally fixed.

Should I use it? I mean, LeeTeuk was the one who fixed it.

Ah well, might as well.

With a click of the remote, the screen became dark to a screen of characters moving across it.

Relieved, I leaned back to my pillow and shut my eyes, falling to deep sleep.

*Next Morning*

*BANG*

I flew up from my sleeping position, eyes wide open in alertness.

What was that?

I looked at my clock

7AM

Ughhh. It's only a Sunday and I'm already up at 7!

I groaned and got out of my bed, knowing I wouldn't be able to fall asleep again.

Turning off my TV, I walked out of my room and down the hall.

*BANG*

The noise was coming from the kitchen.

I slowly hesitated to walk towards the commotion, remembering some past memories.

*Flash Back*

"WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!"

I sat on the couch, scared. Father and Mother were having a fight.

A loud noise came from the kitchen.

*BANG*

"LOOK WHAT YOU DID!" Mother yelled back.

"WHAT I DID?!" A loud smack echoed in the house. "WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO TALK TO ME LIKE THAT?!"

I fell to the ground and went under the couch that was lifted up from the ground by a bit, but it was enough for me to fit under.

I hid from Father.

"WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?" Mother cried out. "WHY DON'T YOU JUST LIVE WITH THAT OTHER GIRL YOU KEEP SEEING?"

"OTHER GIRL? ARE YOU ACCUSING ME OF CHEATING?!"

Another huge hit.

This time, Mothers voice was breaking.

"Just leave us alone! LEAVE THIS HOUSE." She yelled.

*BANG*

Mother raced out of the kitchen and up the stairs, slamming her bedroom door while at it.

"!" Father roared out and stomped out the door, leaving it wide open.

When silence filled the house, I crawled out of under the bed.

I walked towards the front door, closing it lightly.

When I walked passed the staircase, I heard quiet sobbing form upstairs.

Mother...

I shook my head. Father will pay for it one day.

Mother doesn't deserve this.

Walking to the kitchen, there was pots and pans all over the place.

Food was spread out on the tiles and the sink was left running.

I paced towards the faucet, shutting it off and turned around.

The pots were easy to pick up but the food was a little harder to clean up.

I was use to it.

My whole childhood was based on cleaning up after my family.

After my older brother abandoned us, Mother and Father never got better.

I picked up the last spoon on the floor and dropped it in the sink.

A tear rolled down my face as I heard Mothers crying again.

Oppa..Brother, when will you come back?

*End of Flash Back*

My chest was moving up and down fast.

I was hyperventilating.

What is the loud noise? What if its Father coming to hit me?

I rounded the corner fast, preparing myself for what was on the other side.

LeeTeuk was kneeling on the ground, picking up a frying pan and bowl that he had dropped.

The bowl was glass so it had broken in many pieces.

He was picking them up with his bare hands.

"YAH!"

I ran towards him as he looked up, shocked at the sudden voice.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" I shouted at him and pushed his hands away.

"What?" He was clearly still in the state of confusion.

"You don't pick up glass with your bare hands! Are you stupid?!"

LeeTeuk ignored me and began to pick up what he had dropped.

I pushed his hand away and shoved him aside.

"Aish." I muttered and picked it up myself.

"You just said not to pick it up with your bare hands!" LeeTeuk shouted.

"I'm an exception." I hissed back.

I was almost done when the last glass I picked up was sharper than the others.

"Ugh." I dropped all the pieces, while one stuck towards mine.

Blood splurged out of my hands and I grabbed my wrist as I stood up, walking towards napkins.

I looked at LeeTeuk and saw him holding his chest and puffing his cheeks out, exhaling loudly, before he got up and walked towards me.

When he grabbed my hands, I ripped them out of his and walked away.

He soon caught up to me and grabbed me again.

"Leave me alone!" I yelled back.

"Shut up, TaeYeon." He hissed at me.

This scared me.

A guy had never been so rude to me besides my Father.

I shut my mouth as he pulled me to the kitchen, grabbing the First Aid kit on the cabinet.

He exhaled again and soon came beside me.

I slowly pulled out the glass piece as his back was faced at me.

When he turned around, he was looking pissed.

"Why'd you take it out!? It's not safe to do it li-" He began but I cut him off.

"Whatever, it's out now so doesn't matter."

"Ugh." LeeTeuk took out a sanitary napkin and pulled my hand towards the sink.

"I can clean my hand myself."

He dropped my hand and let me rinse it under the cold ice water.

"Yah! Why'd you put it as cold? Your hand is freezing now!" He gasped as he took my hand again.

"Who cares?"

LeeTeuk sighed loudly and wiped my hand clean.

The gash wasn't deep or wide at all, so it was easy to clean up.

Yet I still needed a bandage to wrap around my hand.

"Is this really necessary ? It's just a cut."

"You can get an infection." He blurted in a sharp tone.

"Fine."

"You're so stubborn." LeeTeuk said after a while of silence.

"Excuse me?" I was surprised by his rudeness.

"Nothing."

When he finished wrapping up my hand, I pushed it out of his and bent down to pick up the pieces.

Some were red from my blood. Oh well, it'll just be trashed anyway.

LeeTeuk was suddenly beside me, taking the pieces out of my hand.

"What are you doing?" I sighed out in annoyance.

"Obviously, you can't pick it up yourself."

"What?!" I couldn't believe what he was saying.

"Look at your hand, there's the evidence."

I rolled my eyes.

"I'm perfectly capable of doing it, so stop picking it up."

I gasped as I looked up at him.

His eyes were dark, almost pure black.

He gave me this glare, that told me to back off.

"I can do it TaeYeon."

I slowly dropped the pieces and got off the ground.

Why was I letting a guy speak to me like this?

Would I let myself become vulnerable to a man?

A man always yelled at woman to get their way, but I will never be like that.

"Don't do that."

LeeTeuk got up and threw the glass in the garbage. He turned to me and said "What?"

"Don't ever talk to me like that." I shut my eyes and rubbed my temples.

"Talk to you like what...?" He was hesitant.

"Don't talk to me like you are so much more powerful then me. Don't talk to me like you own me. Don't talk to me like you control me. Don't treat me like garbage."

I blurted out all my thoughts and opened my eyes, shocked at my words.

He chuckled at me though.

"I cleaned your hand and made sure you wouldn't get an infection. How am I treating you like garbage?'

Realizing that what he did was true, I sighed and placed my head on a table.

"Thanks, but I don't need your help." I said after regaining composure.

"TaeYeon...I-"

"No. Just, don't. I"m fine. I was fine without you here, so I'll be fine now." I pushed myself off the table and headed for the living room.

"Look, I didn't mean to sound mean before bu-"

"Forget it. Thanks for the bandage or whatever." I rolled my eyes and took my seat on the couch.

"Why are you acting so cold?" He muttered from behind.

This made me furious.

I stood up quickly and whipped my body back.

"DO YOU REALLY NOT KNOW?!"

I shrieked at him in a loud and high pitched voice.

My throat burned in pain but that didn't matter in the moment.

All I wanted was the truth.

I hope it was okay ><

Thanks for reading!

Bonus :

Am I the only one who thought both of them looked really different in these pictures?

TaeYeon doesn't look like.. TaeYeon.

LeeTeuk's bang colors are a bit strange.
