Chapter 3
Is it...... love??“You know Anna, you should meet my omma,” said Yuri. “You’re just like her. She won’t stop nagging until everything’s done. And I thought I would be free from nags once I moved out of my family house.” Yuri’s words made them burst out laughing.
“You can’t blame me for that. Being the eldest and only daughter in the family, I kinda inherited most of my mom’s gifts,” Anna defends herself.
“Then, can you cook?” Seohyun asked her. Her face glittered with hope.
“I can’t cook like a chef, but you can say that I can cook,” Anna answered shyly. “What’s wrong?” she asked back.
“Oh, it’s nothing. It’s just that we lived by eating mostly instant noodles and dining out for…a week? Two weeks? I’m not so sure myself,” said Yuri. The three of them laughed again. And since then, (even if it is not too long ago) they became best of friends. Now, Anna can even cook Korean food. She even taught Yuri and Seohyun cooking since she might be busy sometimes. She takes more classes than they do. They take turns to cook nowadays.
It has been a few months since Anna first set her feet in Seoul. Tons of assignments given to her by the professors at the Universityof Seoulhave kept her busy all the time. Well, it’s not easy learning to be a doctor. She still has another six years before graduation. The worst has yet to come.
But the people around her are very nice though. They all understand her difficulties of speaking Korean. And that are surprisingly helpful about that. She doesn’t expect Korea to be this welcoming.
She is really grateful to have Yuri and Seohyun by her side. Those two are like real sisters to her. It’s nice to finally have sisters after years of playing with only younger brothers. They are watching some television programs in the living room right now. Their sudden bust of laughs would sometimes surprise Anna who is dreamy in the room.
Anna takes her phone out. It has been along time since she last talked with her family. Her mom must have been expecting her call.
Anna puts her phone down after spending God knows how many hours talking to her family. ‘My bill is going to be high this month,’ she thought, smiling. The phone battery is now low. Her mom cried again. She told her not to worry but Mrs. Smith kept insisting that something bad is going to happen soon. Anna calmed her a little bit when she said that she’ll be careful.
