“No, you don’t have to do it, Miss Farrell! I’ll get all the papers you need.” Drake gave a stiff little bow as he turned around and left.
I smiled to myself as I straightened my skirt, crossing one leg over the other. In a few minutes, Annie would officially be my baby. And I’ll be her loving mother.
I started imagining the pretty dresses I would buy her, the fun times we’d have as a mother-daughter pair, and how we’d go out as a family with Oliver . . .
Just as I pictured that, I heard Drake return, carrying all the legal papers neatly in a folder.
But suddenly, he stopped and stared hard at me. And when he opened his mouth to speak, it made me fall back in my seat with shock:
“Iyureul mollasseo, wae naega byeonhaenneunji~”
I scowled. “I’m sorry, Drake—what?”
But he completely ignored me, and continued singing, his voice no more gruff and loud, but soft and angelic: “Hancham saenggakhaesseo, neowa na mannan ihuro~”
The scene in front of my eyes started dissolving into blackness, and then reality . . .
I let out a soft groan as clutched the pillow tighter. His breath tickled my cheek as he continued to sing softly the one song we both loved in my ear:
