Changes (Part II)
It's Just A PhaseJanuary 16, 2014
The dinner table was set elegantly for the evening. Yixing had all the expensive plates and utensils cleaned thoroughly just so his mother-in-law wouldn't find any faults. It was only four of them tonight because Kyungsoo was out of the country with Jiyong, visiting different countries at Joonmyeon's expense. EunMi had finally arrived at what felt like hours and from the moment she sat down he new this would be a long dinner.
"You're cooking skills have greatly improved greatly Joonmyeon. I remember back when you were twelve and tried to cook Kimchichigae for dinner, it was badly overcooked." EunMi smiled widely as she continued to sip on her Yukaejang soup.
"Actually, I can't take all the credit here. Yixing was the one who prepared everything I just assisted him."
With that comment EunMi's smile faded and she dropped her spoon eyeing Yixing cautiously. Probably wondering if Yixing tried to poison her out of spite which wouldn't make sense because Yixing was actually trying to like this woman.
"No wonder it taste so spicy maybe you should have cooked it instead."
Joonmyeon sighed loudly before crossing his arms and eyeing his mother sternly. "C'mon mom! Let's not do this."
"No Joon it's fine, I probably added too much black pepper by acciden-"
"You're going to pick his side over mine? The same who cheated on you? Yet you believe him over your mother."
Yixing's face began to heat up and tears had also started to build up in his eyes.
"You told her? Why would you do that? You know she doesn't even like me."
"Of course he told me, he tells me everything even down to the fact that you guys barely sleep in the same bed any more."
"Mother please stop."
"It baffles me why you even married him you should have learned so much from your first bad marriage. That woman was just like Yixing and you still haven't learned."
Jongdae who stayed quiet the entire meal finally looked up from his plate and stared at his grandmother. Swallowing his mouth full of food he pushed his chair back and got up from his seat slowly. The young boy walked towards the front door and reached for the handle but Joonmyeon's voice stopped him.
"Where are you going? This is suppose to be a family meal and you aren't leaving so get back in your seat."
Jongdae still opened the front door and turned back towards his father saying a quick " off" before existing out the house, leaving the rest of us in shock. EunMi got up from her seat as well and grabbed her coat from the coat rack. No one spoke as she put her coat and shoes back on, Yixing silently hoping she would leave and never come back. Aware of the damage she had caused for the day, she quietly existing the house as well before telling Joonmyeon goodbye.
"I hope you're happy. You couldn't even stand up to your mother for disrespecting your son's mother."
"You know how my mother is she states whatever is on her mine. The woman was never known for filtering her thoughts."
"Okay but still she was being rude to your son and husband."
"How was she being rude to you?"
"Besides the fact that she called this a 'bad marriage' and called me a is not considered disrespect to you?"
"Maybe this is a bad marriage Yixing. We haven't spent actual time together in almost a year and we've grown distant."
"Don't start."
"I work all day and night leaving you alone all the time to do god knows what with whomever."
"What are you trying to say?"
"What I'm trying to say is I find it hard to believe that I find it hard to believe all you've ever done is kiss that man since we were together."
"Are you ing kidding me. I've come clean about what I've done and that was the only time I've been with him."
There was an eerie silence between the two and no one spoke for a while. Unsure of what to say and how to say things without pissing the other off.
"Maybe we should get a divorce."
