Chapter 7
Healing Task
“You busy?” I walked over to Jessica as she was staring intently at her laptop.
“Taeyeon?”
She took her eyes away from the screen and was now staring at me with wide eyes. Perhaps shocked that it was me who entered her room.
“What are you watching?” I sat on the side of her bed.
“Not much. . . do you need anything?”
“Just wanted to check in on you.”
“Very funny... but seriously speaking... did you lose something, or are you looking for something?”
“YOU” I stated in english, irritated that she wasn't falling for it, taking my words like a joke.
“You’re telling me Kim Taeyeon came inside my room to check on me instead of scolding me? Wow, that’s new. . .”
“It’s not like I haven’t done this before” I stated matter-of-factly.
“I know... it just feels like forever. . .”
I noticed the bitterness in her tone and the sadness in her eyes. Has it been that long?
The look in her face pained me, knowing I’m partly to blame for it.
“Well at least I’m here now.” I gave her a sincere smile. “To be honest I came here to tease you, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t come here with the intentions of seeing you... nor that anything I have said was a lie” I added. I had decided not to go with my original plan and instead, to use this time to talk to her.
Silence began to engulf us.
“I’m confused. . ." she muttered out.
“With what?”
“With everything happening... with you, with your true feelings. . . and mine," her voice was shaky, tears formed in her eyes, which didn’t escape my sight even as she turned her face to the side, away from me.
“Since I’m on the journey of forgiving you. . . don’t you think that now is the time to reveal the truth?”
“W-what are you talking about?” she looked at me.
“It’s been three years already... you can’t keep the true reason you broke up with me forever... consider this as a stepping stone in forgiving you.”
“What I told you then... it was true.”
“Don’t lie to me!” I unconsciously shouted at her.
“Please, don’t lie to me. . . I refuse to believe that those reasons are true.”
Realizing how I was screaming at her, I pulled myself together. But it didn’t take long until I felt a wet substance roll down my cheek.
