Chapter 1
Paperless DiariesBaekhyun:
The library was empty, and the lights dim. I reached for the last switch and the lights flickered. They died almost immediately, leaving me in the dark to feel my way to the exit. I sighed, wishing silently that the switch box was closer to the door. Every night consisted of the same routine. I found it comforting. The familiarity a crutch for my paranoid spirit. Change was a concept I was never much of a willing subject for.
My arms were raised and I proceeded to feel along the walls, my fingertips ghosting softly over the raised book bindings as if they were a sort of brail. I was sure I was almost to the exit as I felt my finger touch something foreign to my memory of the pattern I depended on so strongly.
I could feel someone's presence hovering in the darkness directly ahead of me, quite close actually. A hand circled my wrist and I struggled to keep myself from trembling. My breath hitched and I stumbled backward, losing my balance in the midst of my fright. A second limb wrapped around my waste, the long slender arm finding its way to the small of my back and pulling me close. I could feel the figure's breath on my forehead, blowing my hair out of my face and dusting the sweat from my brow.
I could not see the person who currently held me so uncomfortably near however I could feel it's height and strength.
My palms were clammy and my heart pounding.
"Er... Sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you." The voice was smooth and deep, sending a tremor through my body. The grip on my wrist was loosened and my waist was dropped. "I was wanting to look for a book but it was closed..."
This did not reassure me at all. I worked up the courage to question the individual, only to regret it instantaneously as my voice betrayed my fear, making it completely obvious and leaving me even more vulnerable. "Then why did you come in anyway and sneak around like a criminal?"
Silence.
My hand was freed and I could hear soft, even paced footsteps. After a moment of sheer fear, I exhaled with relief when the lights came buzzing back to life.
I spun on my heels to face a tall, handsome, lean boy with wavy chestnut colored hair. When he smiled, I felt an intense flame reverberate throughout my body, seeming to have come from my upper chest. I swallowed, my saliva thick and tongue dry. "That's better." The boy said, his beautiful white teeth showing proudly.
"Yes, so can you please leave? It is after hours and the library is closed.", I said dryly. His smile faded and his shoulders drooped, though his wide chocolate eyes did not lose any of their splendor.
"I'm really sorry that I frightened you. I see that you're upset with me. I suppose I'll be leaving now." He reached up to flip the switch again and I panicked.
"Wait! Could you... Maybe wait until I'm out first to do that? I can't... See in the dark at all."
His doe eyes blinked as he soaked in the information. "Ahh.. Right. No problem." I scurried to the exit door and stepped out onto the quiet street, turning around only for a brief moment to ensure he had turned off the light and was following me, before running home at a full run.
