Love Like This
[November 2011]
I liked being here because somehow, my chest soothed a bit when I felt the cold wind brushing my cheeks and I felt less pressured about everything that’s been tangling inside me mind lately. Soyu, the plans, my father, my new job, everything.
It’s already winter and I missed Soyu, very much and the fact that she’s so close but I couldn’t do anything to take her back frustrated me. Five years were not easy but when I imagined back her cheery face every night in those five years, I could smile but now, I just couldn’t anymore.
Damn you, Nam Woohyun.
‘Park-ssi?’ I quickly turned to the voice behind me.
‘It’s cold up here. What are you doing?’
‘The view’s nice. It’s cold alright but what about you?’ I asked back, forcing a smile. I noticed that he took a few steps closer towards me and soon, he’s already standing right beside me at the chilly rooftop.
‘I like it here. Just like you said before, the view’s pacifying.’ He answered calmly, fixing his gaze to his front. I stared closely at his features when he seemed to be lost inside his own thoughts. He’s pulling a weak smile, hands in his pocket, he practically looked like any other bratty kids out there. But quite handsome for a Korean guy, I wondered what made him chose to marry Soyu when I knew hundreds of other pretty girls would line up to be with him.
We stayed silent for a while but then, I couldn’t help but to speak to him. There’s a lot that I wanted to learn about this rotten piece of human but to do so, I had to slowly open myself up to him before he could do so to me.
‘Do you want to know why I left the huge company where I was working at in Japan and came back here?’
No answer.
‘I came back to Seoul because of her.’ I said, opening up a conversation.
‘I wasted too much of my time studying and working in Japan, forgetting something that I really loved. I was stupid for leaving her and now, she’s gone. I thought she’d wait for me but now I know she didn’t. Now, I’m getting her back though no matter what it takes.’ He turned to my lengthy words and paused for a while.
‘Why’re you telling me all those things?’
‘Because, because you seem like the kind of boss who’d listen to a small employee’s words like me.’ I answered and chuckled softly. It felt somewhat better after letting out those things to him.
‘Besides, you’re just like me, coming up here, willing to experience the cold weather outside just for a plain view.’ I said, crossing my arms at the cold wind.
‘Well, it appears that we do have something in common. Don’t you think so?’
