Love Like This
[September 2014]
Kang Jiihyun clutched the ring in her palm tight, recalling back the moments where she and her friends used to play and have fun. No worries, no responsibilities to carry on their back and no sadness to be let out. The moments where she and Park Hyungsik used to talk and laugh.
Old sweet memories... She then, leaned to her right, resting her head against a sturdy figure.
'Are you okay?'
'Mmm..' She answered weakly and sighed, still not letting go of the precious diamond ring in her palm.
'Coming back home's not a good idea?'
'No, no.' Jihyun quickly denied and sat up straight. The verandah was their favourite place to be. Autumn wind brushed them that she quickly shared him her warm blanket and scooted closer.
Years passed and it's not many but still, Jihyun couldn't rub the guilt from her chest even though the relationship with her in laws got better. Even Woohyun was getting better. She had a happy family but she still couldn't shake Hyungsik's face away from her mind. He even came to her dreams during some nights.
'It's about Park Hyungsik, right?' He asked, putting his hand on her hand and squeezed it tight.
'I missed him.'
A simple remark but Woohyun already felt a little uneasy.
'Move on, Jihyun-ah.'
Suddenly, she opened her right palm, revealing the ring Hyungsik gave her a few years ago. That new year's eve was still fresh in her mind. How could she forget his sad eyes, asking her to come with him? She could never did.
'I didn't get a chance to return this to him. I'm a bad person.'
'You're not.' Woohyun assured, pulling the lady close to his arms. Somehow, it soothed her a bit. Woohyun then, took the ring from her palm, staring at it with outermost sorry.
'The past has already happened. We could do nothing to change it. I feel sorry for him too but what could we do? What could you do?'
He was right, she thought. She had a family now, a future to look up to.
'May I?' He turned to her and ask. Jihyun gave a slight nod before he threw the ring with all his might. It flew to the fields before them, bringing along Hyungsik's sad love story and all of his heart wrenching memories.
'Thanks, Jagi-ssi. Please continue to comfort me whenever I feel like this, okay?' She wrapped her arms around her husband's waist, feeling the warmth of his body.
Woohyun could only answer her question by tightening his hold onto her. How lucky he felt for having her all to himself even though a bit of her heart was reserved for Park Hyungsik.

'Aigoo, this is so cute!' Her mother's blabbers greeted them when they walked into the house early that night.
'Isn't Seunghyun cute? I missed him so much...! Stay here longer, dear. It's agonizing enough for me when your mother in law got to play with my grandson all by herself ever since he was born. My friends also didn't see my handsome grandson yet. Oh, I have to ask them to come over tomorrow!' She complained while kissing the cheeks of the little boy as if he's a play toy. Good thing he didn't cry, in fact it seemed as if he's enjoying the attention he's receiveing.
