Finding Hope

The Equation of Time

Warning: First part is not suitable for kids.

“Sleep with me…” Jong kook stood awkwardly frozen on his spot. Her words gave him goose bumps. His back was still arching towards Ji hyo, while his arms are pinned under her. It didn’t help either that Ji hyo was hanging on his neck, her face almost pressed to his. He could feel the room getting smaller and warmer. He started feeling dizzy, in a good way that made him want to just forget. He shut his eyes, willing his self-control to come back. Alas, it had abandoned him. He searched her face, their eyes measuring each other’s response. She waited for his answer, but all he could give was the sound of his labored breathing. Her hot breath is suddenly on his neck, drawing gasps from him. She placed small kisses on his neck, her lips slowly making its way to his earlobe. He can feel himself wanting to let go, to not think anymore, but he held his ground through gritted teeth. Think of gym Jong kook! Pushups, weights, dumbbells, 1, 2, 3… don’t! He suddenly felt like he was being pulled, throwing him off balance, and then he was surrounded by soft comforters. It was too comfortable and warm to his liking. He stared at Ji hyo in disbelief from his position under her. She was definitely stronger and faster than she looked, managing to pin down Jong kook. She wore a seductive smile, her eyes dark and full of promise. Another side of Ji hyo, the seductress…

Jong kook frowned, not understanding her reason to do this. The woman had wanted to divorce him yesterday and now... he gulped as he felt himself straining under her bottom. “Ji hyo-yah…” his voice no longer mosquito-like as desire thickened it, but she just sat on top of him looking so wild and alluring with her red lips and tousled hair. Jong kook restrained himself and used his all to prevent himself from ravaging her. He lay there, wanting but hesitant, just waiting for what was to come. Like this morning, she was teasing him again. She bit her lip, it as if tasting him there after their kiss earlier.  She slowly lowered her body to him, her hand resting on his chest, its warmth seeping through his clothes. He was painfully aware of her pressing to his now aching need. She smiled then she bit his lower lip, making him go crazy. Jong kook uttered a low groan, his hand now resting on her sides, gently touching. It was so wrong but he was so helpless to stop it. He wants her, and her eyes also mirror the same need. He shouldn’t be here but he can’t push her away either. He remembers the peppero incident and what happened; he couldn’t risk that happening again. He felt her hands slowly ing his shirt, her hands trembling as she did so. Jong kook closed his eyes and surrendered to her touch.

Ji hyo observed the man beneath her. She can feel him pressing his arousal against her. She sat more comfortably, making him twitch. He bit his lip but it was not enough to trap the low enticing growls from deep within him. She was feeling so aroused and impatient, but she had to make sure. She knows she can’t do this anymore if she is sober. She touched his chest, admiring the effect of the workouts he dedicatedly never missed. She watched his every reaction as she slowly ed his shirt. She had to make sure, now. “You are not my husband.” He suddenly opened his eyes and she searched them. It was dark but she was sure there was fear in them. He avoided her gaze and it slightly confirmed Ji hyo’s doubts. “Ji hyo-yah, why?” She ignored him and tugged at the hem of his shirt and Jong kook suddenly sat up facing her. He removed his shirt, not breaking eye contact with her. “I am me…” She ignored him again, his eyes sincerely begging her. She placed her hands on his chest, touching him in every spot, while eliciting moans from him. She found his abs, traced her way to his happy trail as the man shivered and grew even more under her. He tried to keep still by gripping the sheets. She was almost there, in that aching place, demanding sweet release. Then she pushed him to the bed, she had to make sure before she lost to her desire. She made him roll to his side and she quickly checked his back – the scar was still there. Ji hyo wanted to hit herself, she was ridiculous. She watched too many dramas for her own good and now these crazy ideas kept coming to her head. She thought that maybe the man in their house was not her husband. It couldn’t not be him, he was her husband for sure but the sudden change was just too hard to believe.

“Ji hyo-yah... I understand now. I am me.” Jong kook felt like he was dumped with ice water. He had also noticed that scar on his back during his showers. He couldn’t see it but he could feel it and it had not been there before. It finally dawned on him that Ji hyo was making sure he was him.

“I said sleep with me.” She was kidding herself. Yes, she had to make sure her stupid theory was false, but the truth was she had missed him. She wanted him. Jong kook looked at her with sincere concern that melted her heart. Ji hyo knew it was not love she was seeing. Strangely, she didn’t feel too hurt about it. His gaze actually reminded her of the old him when they had just met. Suddenly he was the oppa she knew who always had her back, her ally and protector.

Jong kook wanted to play the gentleman’s role. He wanted to cradle her in his arms and rock her pains away, until she fell asleep. He didn’t want to be unfair, it wasn’t love. And he couldn’t give in to his lust. He felt her hands tracing his chest again. Gently he placed his hand over hers and gently pushed it down. He placed his hands on her shoulders and looked her straight in the eye. For a moment, she was an open book: fear, doubt and pain creating an ugly mix in her eyes. “No Ji hyo…” her shoulders slumped and Jong kook sensed her recoil. Jong kook panicked, it was happening again. He can’t let her be hurt again. “No Ji hyo, it’s not like that. Please, please just listen to me. God knows how much I want you right now,” he swallowed, knowing that she could feel his need, “but this would be unfair to you Ji hyo-yah, I want to make it up to you. Give you what you deserve… I-I know I caused you a lot of pain, but it's my fault - I mean, I don’t hate you. You are a strong woman, capable and loveable, it’s just that I -”

“You don’t hate me, but you don’t love me either.”

“No, please. I really want to make it up to you and Hyo Jong. I...” he choked on his own words as his throat constricted, making breathing hard. He took a deep breath to steady his cracking voice and continued, “We are family, you and I and Hyo Jong…” He suddenly felt so tired that he just wanted to crawl in a corner and cry his heart out. He wondered why he was going through this difficult path. He was just hurting himself and them. He doesn’t want her running away from him but he can’t say those three words either. He was scared. He lowered his gaze. He couldn’t dare look at how much damage he had caused her again. He bowed his head lower, still unable to face her. “Ji hyo-yah, I don’t want you to cry… I don’t want you and Hyo Jong getting hurt. I-I really mean it. I am sorry that I - no please don’t cry again. No more tears Ji hyo-yah, please.” He held her hands as if willing her pains to go away. She ignored his hands. She raised his face to look at her. Slowly, she touched the warm liquid racing down his cheeks. He looked at her with tender confusion. He hadn’t expected what he saw in those orbs. It was understanding and an undeniable connection.

“You are hurting too...”

“No, I am fine Ji hyo. It’s because I am sorry.”

“You are hurting too, not just me.”

“No… it’s fine. I don’t have the right.”

“I can feel it, you are hurting for me…” She raised her other hand and now she was cupping his face while he tried to uselessly hold back the tears. “Don’t hold them back anymore… You had never cried for me… This is beautiful. These tears are for me.” She smiled through her tear-stricken face, assuring him. “This is enough for now… o-oppa.” the words tasted good in her tongue. Suddenly she was the young Ji hyo again who looked up to her oppa for comfort and safety. “You are like the oppa I knew, feels like him too.” she continued to cup his face as his tears soaked into her sleeves. She gave his forehead a soft kiss and then his shoulders started to heave. He just cried openly, without holding back. He cried for her, for him and everything. At that moment, the two of them held each other as they poured their tears and pains. Silently, the two lost souls finally met each other.

Jong kook woke up, but it was still dark. He looked around in the unfamiliar surroundings and tried to stand, but someone was holding him down. As his vision slowly adjusted, he saw Ji hyo still holding on to him. She was peacefully sleeping, her face buried in his chest. He carefully pulled the comforter around her and watched her sleep while trying to avoid the nagging pain in his head. It was as if someone had hit him without him knowing it.

Ji hyo finally stirred from her slumber. She had never felt so well rested before, despite the hangover. Her eyes widened at the realization that she was hugging not a pillow but a chest, and a muscular one to add. gaped open at the sleeping form beside her. With her eyes hurting, she squinted at the bright light streaming in the room. Her head felt heavy and she was tempted to get more sleep, but she had to wake up for Hyo Jong. She flushed as she remembered what she had done last night. Jong kook suddenly opened his eyes and Ji hyo wanted to disappear. She had been too daring and now she regretted it. Then she noticed something and started chuckling. “Jong kook… Are you awake?”

“Mmmm… why?”

“Pfft, then why don’t you open your eyes? Are you sleep-pretending?” Ji hyo grinned at the swollen-eyed Jong kook. She giggled seeing the results of their cry fest last night. He smiled at her equally swollen eyes and touched her now dried tears. “My wife is so pretty… but am I seeing correctly? Or my eyes are closed?”

“Yah, wake up, open your eyes!”

“Yah yourself, you don’t look any better.”

“Really?”

“Err, no not really. You still look good and my eyes weren’t closed when I said that.” He used his hands to stretch his eyes wider making Ji hyo laugh.

“Hyo Jong do you want me to take you to school?” asked Jong kook while he fed Hyo Jong porridge, in which he had secretly added some minced vegetable. He kept on talking to her so she wouldn’t notice what the secret ingredient of her porridge was. “Appa, can I go now? This food is weird.” Jong kook sighed as Hyo Jong coughed out some food in his face. “Hyo Jong-ah, appa rarely cooks… will you really reject my love?” Hyo Jong looked at him then to the porridge and sighed. She seemed to be thinking hard and Jong kook did his best to appeal to her using his pitiful face despite the swollen eyes. Then Hyo Jong opened . Finally, Jong kook had successfully fed her vegetables. “Good girl Hyo Jong-ah, so I’ll take you to school now?”

“Wait Jong kook, I’ll take her to school, it’s Friday today. Did you forget? You are supposed to meet with Im Shi Yoon today.” Jong kook tried his best not to look surprised. Im Shi yoon sounded familiar. He had to ask Jade, he wasn’t supposed to be worrying about people other than his family.

As soon as Ji hyo and Hyo Jong left for playschool, Jong kook rushed to his room and called Jade. “Hey come on, you can’t abandon me here! Jade come out, please.” Suddenly there was another presence in the room. “Hey what’s up kid? I thought you wanted me to disappear?”

“Come on you can’t be seriously sulking about that, who’s this Shi yoon guy? Why do I need to meet him?”

“Hey take it easy, Shi yoon is your CEO and about that meeting… Maybe it’s supposed to happen. Just go along with it.”

“I really can’t understand you sometimes.”

“Well you don’t need to understand everything.”

--------------------

Jong kook found himself in front of a high edifice. His initials graced the building’s glass exteriors, the glazed letters intimidating with prestige. It was breathtaking, his secret dream finally in front of him. He was suddenly thankful of the shades that hid his surprised expression. A bumbling staff rushed to his side and gave him a brief that he mostly didn’t understand. “Sir, Im Shi Yoon-ssi is waiting for you. He also prepared lunch.” he quietly followed the unnamed staff. Many employees had stopped to greet him and he just gave them a slight smile. A familiar girl smirked at him. It was the girl from that night. He pursed his lips trying to act nonchalantly. Finally, after the long awkward way, they arrived at the CEO suites level. Jong kook went in the room that the staff had pointed to. It was all glass and white polished marbles with the view of whole Seoul and Hanyang River as its background. It took his all not to suddenly run to the windows and stare at the majestic view.

“Uh, I’ll be leaving now sir. Im Shi Yoon-ssi will be right with you in a while.” As soon as he was alone, Jong kook went to the floor to ceiling window and stared agape at the view. He could see everything from his place. It was truly incomparable to the past. It was all glass and concrete in unimaginable shapes and sizes. It was greener, more parks, more of everything. The past was empty compared to the developments he was seeing.

Hyungnim.” He turned around to face a tall lean man with short crisp hair wearing an all black suit. He looked stunning, like an idol. His face was familiar, like all the idols of the future that he saw, but didn’t strike a chord in his memory. They must have met after Eun hye’s death. If he entrusted everything to this man then he must have done something to deserve it. He looked honest enough and he wasn’t getting any bad vibes from him. “Let’s take a seat hyung and I’ll start my boring reports.”

“Ah yeah okay.” They both sat opposite each other in the long dining table. The place was sparse of furniture except this long table and a couple of chairs. A sleek television was mounted on a far wall and it . It was a Kpop performance. He watched a girl group dance to a catchy beat. It was familiar in terms of style and even the lyrics. “Hyung that is our top idol group at the moment, the song you made for them is a huge success. Even I can’t believe that we were able to beat last year’s Gangnam style. I think we should focus on them and wait until we let a new group debut. I have talked to DOTA and they are working on a better debut song. The promotion department is now preparing for a new marketing strategy for our other artists. We might need you to shoot a company MV with everyone.”

“Uhmm, sure,” Jong kook tried to absorb everything the man is saying. He was enthusiastic about Kpop. He had the passion that drew you in and made you want to listen to him rave about it. Jong kook doesn’t know how they came up with their arrangement but he was surely not wrong to trust the man. He was the perfect person for this post. “And Hyung, recently our venture in drama production is going smoothly. Our ‘Idol’s School of Love’ was a huge success and helped our rookie duo, DOS, shoot to stardom. We have reviewed some nice scripts and the secretary will give you copies later.” Drama production? His ears perked up with the piece of information, and all he thought of was Ji hyo. Now I know how I can make her come back. “Hyung, you forgot about our drama production department right? You forgot, I can't believe it. You said it was for your wife. I wonder when you’ll tell her.” I did? Future me did? Jong kook wanted to jump in happiness but it also made him confused. He viewed his future as someone who only knew how to hurt his family, so what’s up with this drama department for Ji hyo?

The food arrived and they ate, Jong kook silently thinking of how to convince Ji hyo to take a drama role while Shi Yoon kept on talking about their groups. They had finished eating and Shi Yoon politely excused himself for another meeting. “Hyung, I am really grateful, you know, for everything you have done for me. And about that, err, your recommended trainees.” Jong kook almost sprayed his water at the younger man. Suddenly he had cold sweats, was he openly doing those disgusting things in his own company? “I am really glad that you have not mentioned a recommendation today. It’s sometimes hard to clean up. Anyway, say hi to Mrs. Kim and little Hyo Jong for me. I’ll be going now hyung, see you next Friday.” The man went out leaving Jong kook flustered. He donned his shades again and went out. He was afraid of what else he might discover in that place.

“Sir! Wait Kim Jong kook-ssi.” The bumbling staff reappeared carrying three thick envelopes. “Sir, here are the scripts. Im Shi Yoon-ssi told me to give you copies.” Jong kook scanned the titles. They were all idol-centric. He couldn’t convince Ji hyo with those. “Is this all the scripts you have?”

“Eh? Sir, those were the approved ones but we do have hundreds of submissions in the production department.”

“Do you inventory them? I want to see the titles.”

“Umm, yes of course sir. Follow me and I’ll show them to you.”

They went down on the fifth floor to the production and the surprised staff hastily greeted Jong kook. They all fell silent at the sight of him. He gestured them to not mind him and they calmed down, but Jong kook swore they were gossiping about him. He pushed his shades closer to his eyes and followed bumbling staff.

“Sir, here are the copies of all the scripts we had received. Do you want to print it?”

“No, let me take a look.” He scanned the titles looking for something that could make Ji hyo want to act again. They were all light rom-com and idol fluff. Some even sounded like fan fiction. A title caught his eyes and he knew it was perfect. “Uh, hey you, what’s your name?”

“I am Kang Maru sir.”

“Can you give me a copy of this script Maru-ssi?”

“That one sir? But it’s a heavy melodrama you - I mean I understand sir. Please wait a moment.” Kang Maru left and Jong kook decided to search the net. He was directed to the KJK entertainment page and found a curious information about Im Shi Yoon. He was once an idol. Jade suddenly appeared beside him and Jong kook looked around if anyone was near. “Hey kid relax, we are in an office cubicle and they wouldn’t bother the owner you know.”

“Okay, but Jade can you help me here? I need to know more about Shi Yoon.” The small space was enough for only one person to sit in. Jong kook was about to stand to let Jade slide in front of the computer but the time god pulled him back and sat on his lap. “What are you doing Jade?” he hissed through his teeth. “Sshh! They can’t see me but they can hear you. Don’t sweat it kid. It would be weird if someone sees you watching an invisible man type away right? I’m not heavy so bear with it.” Jong kook growled. Jade made sense but their position was just too much. Two good-looking men in a swivel chair, although people are only seeing one, did not compute.

Im Shi Yoon of the rising group Pick-Up Boys underwent vocal nodes surgery…. the young rapper was infected… the surgery failed… had to quit… to be replaced by another trainee...

Im Shi Yoon is back behind the scenes with Kim Jong kook after 5 years of… producer and composer working to debut the most powerful of next generation idols…

“S-sir here’s the script!” Kang Maru looked like a train had run over him as he panted while holding out a script to Jong kook. Jade was still comfortably using him as a chair and he suddenly stood up throwing the time god off his lap. Jade groaned in protest but Jong kook ignored him, I have to act as if you don’t exist or else I’ll cause glitches. His inner self is chuckling. He knows Jade can read his thoughts. “Thank you Kang Maru-ssi. Can I ask for another favor?” The young man’s eyes lit up like Christmas lights and nodded his head harder than necessary.

--------------------

Soon Jong kook found himself seated in a café. The smell was making him dizzy but he needed to ask the caffeine buzzed Maru something. He sipped his tea while he eyed with disapproval the coffee and whipped cream the younger guy was consuming.

“So how long have you been in the company Maru-yah, it’s fine to talk informally right?”

“It’s fine sir, be comfortable in speaking. I have been here for almost three years. I started as a junior secretary and recently I have just been promoted as an executive junior secretary.”

“Oh congratulations then, can you tell me anything about what you know? I know secretaries love to gossip about everything.”

“B-but I can get fired.”

Bingo, he knows something! “I got your back. If you have me it’s all fine right?”

“Got my back, you mean sir, like Shi Yoon-ssi? Oh, god I’m sorry… I-I heard it from his secretary. Please I need this job.”

“Tell me what you know. Don’t be scared.”

“It’s not really a secret… They all talk about it.”

“Tell me.” He removed his shades and looked at Maru. He was fidgeting in his seat and Jong kook was getting impatient. “They said the real owner is the CEO. They said that it was all his idea and he just used your influence and your name to make the company big and famous. You were just his marketing strategy and that it was all fine to you and that you agreed with the setting to help him. I really don’t know about the truth since I heard from the accounting secretary that you both have equal shares in the company. That’s all I know, I swear. I don’t have any idea about the recommended trainees –“

“Enough. Finish up your drink.”

“Am I fired?”

“No I can even give you a recommendation.”

“R-recommend? B-but, but I am straig –“

“Yah, I mean a job promotion. Don’t be nervous. Drink up and give me your contacts.”

Neh… I mean yes sir!” The younger man lowered his head, his shoulders obviously shaking in nervousness. It was so silly that Jong kook could only chuckle. The younger man just thought he was hitting on him.

--------------------

Jong kook eyed the manuscript beside him. He is not interested at all on the three ‘idol’ scripts. He sighed at his discoveries that day. Now he understood what Jade had meant when he said he needed to meet Shi Yoon. He helped the man who can’t sing come back even if it was just in music production. He also created a drama department for his wife who stopped acting for unknown reasons. He didn’t care if he was just a marketing strategy. Shi yoon didn’t seem to be that kind of guy. He was honest and he treated him as a hyung. Finally, he found something that was right, Shi yoon and the drama department. He wasn’t totally hopeless after all. He eyed ‘Mrs. Kim’ and smiled. She will like this… I just had to make her read it.
