“You’re gay, Tao. Aren’t you?” Kai walks over to our lunch bench one day.
I blush.
“Uh, yeah.”
“Told you so."
I only just realise Luhan's standing behind him, looking at me warily.
They're all here. The entire squad.
I look searchingly at Kris.
He stands behind everyone, a silent giant.
Why does my ual orientation matter to them?
Unless…
“Tao, I’m totally asking you out babe,” Kai says, wrapping an arm around my waist.
I try to push him away but he's really heavy and won't let me go.
I look over at Kyungsoo apologetically.
He looks like he's going to cry.
“You’re going to be all mine," Kai kisses my cheek.
Kris just stares at us, and I feel guilty.
"Kai, I'm not interested in going out with you," I explain carefully.
I don't know what he's capable of.
“So if you won’t go out with me, there’s someone else you like?”
I nod with a blush.
“Spit it out.”
I look over at Kris.
I can't say it.
I can't say it here and now.
“Well, there’s that and something else,” I attempt to explain.
Kyungsoo stares at me testily.
I'm sorry, Kyungsoo...
Kai stares at me and follows my gaze across the table.
“What?”
Sorry Kyungsoo…
“Well… my friend Kyungsoo really likes you, Kai.”
It's deadly silent in the cafeteria.
People have stopped scraping their metal chopsticks against plates, and all eyes turn to our table.
Kyungsoo breaks down into tears and runs out of the room, smashing his way through the crowd.
"Now you've done it!" Sehun yells at me.
Kai blushes violently, his eyes following Kyungsoo's receding figure.
Hang on just a second.
“You like Kyungsoo too?"
Kai nods.
"Always have."
“Well that’s a relief," Sehun states, half in shock.
By this stage Kris is choking back tears of laughter.
Kris' laugh is beautiful.
“Kai does like Kyungsoo,” Kris announces.
Good.
I haven't ruined Kyungsoo’s life.
Yet.
“Well, if you both like each other why not just go out?”
After the class bell sounds, Sehun drags Kai out of the room.
Kai, as usual, is only half dressed.
Kyungsoo looks at the pair with wide eyes as he makes his way out of the bathroom and into the classroom.
He's obviously been crying.
He tosses me a glare as I take my seat beside him.
“Tell him," Sehun slaps Kai.
“But…”
“Do it.”
Kyungsoo is still oblivious.
“Well, Kyungsoo. I… uh… I mean…”
Kyungsoo tilts his head to the side and I can't help but giggle.
“Kai’s trying to say he really likes you.”
Kyungsoo goes beet red.
“I uh… I like you… too?”
Kyungsoo’s words come out more questioning than perhaps intended.
He thinks for a minute.
“I like you," he repeats firmly.
Kyungsoo kisses Kai, and the pair receive wolf whistles from the rest of the class.
I can't help but feel jealous though.
Why couldn't things be like this between Kris and me?
But then I remember its time to move on.
