white satin and bells
you're not pretty, you're beautiful.White Satin and Bells
Yoona, Eunhyuk and I decided that the most intuitive way to survive the barbaric boys’ night out, was to have our own girly sleepover (with the added presence of Eunhyuk). I don’t know remember the last time we curled under the blankets together and discussed our most precarious secrets. Eunhyuk would sleep on the sofa, whereas Yoona and I would sleep in a bed. It would be no different today.
Eunhyuk lazily lies on the sofa, his head tucked into the green heated blanket he always brings to every single sleepover, without fail. He prates on about something entirely irrelevant. Did he say something about a Clare Lee? I barely catch his words, as he rambles on to himself. Yoona on the other hand, motions for me to sit next to her as she flicks on the television. After moment of staring at the empty television, she decides to pull out a disc out of her satchel.
“Don’t tell me it’s a ‘mean girls’ night, again,” I deadpan.
She thrums the CD cover, grinning mischievously.
“No, it’s a documentary.”
I stare at her, wide eyed.
“I’m joking Hee Young. We’re watching ’27 Dresses’”.
Of course we are.
I lean back on the sturdy leg of the couch and ready myself for two hours of fun. Yet the nerves of tomorrow are eating my brain. How could Yoona make me so anxious with the mention of a wedding film? I already had anxiety over Kevin’s night out with his friends, known as UKISS. Yoona just had to remind me about what is happening tomorrow.
The wedding.
Brides and All. Dresses. Flowers. Food.
Being mentally and psychically bound to Kevin.
Forever – I hope.
…
“Don’t you know that it’s bad luck to see the bride before the wedding?” I curve an eyebrow, glaring at the brooding figure before me. He presses his fingers against his forehead and salutes me with a flick of his hands.
“I’m getting married to you. Isn’t that proof that bad luck doesn’t exist?”
“You sweet talker,” I mutter, smiling.
“Only for you, Hee Young”.
We stand directly opposite each other in the most lux room of the reception. The changing room alone is so elaborate – adorned by the finest jewels and fabrics. The room is also dimly lit, casting a mysterious shadow over the man whom I am to be wed to. He wears a neat tuxedo, a rose tucked into his chest pocket. He looks like the epitome of a prince. All he needs is a crown to be placed upon his head. He is exquisite.
“I just wanted to come see you. I couldn’t stay away for that long,” He grins.
“Well now you’ve seen me. Now, shoo.”
Before he leaves, he advances towards me in steady steps. He gently traces my cheekbone, causing the jitters to explode in the pit of my stomach once again. My cheeks flush. His fingers trail to the white material at my waist. He rubs the material between his fingers as he leans in to peck my forehead, before being brushed away. He smiles innocently. And I have to admit, it works. He looks like a fully-fledged angel.
Before he leaves, he turns back to me and whispers so only I can hear, even though there is not another presence in the vicinity.
“You look…pretty”.
“Just that?” I tease.
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen”.
And he departs. Leaving a breathless bride.
…
“I do”.
I manage to blurt out.
With the sweep, Kevin wraps his arms around my body and presses his lips against mine. All worries immediately disappear. The crowd seated just metres from me disappear. All I can concentrate on is the stunning man before man. Warmth radiates from his body. My heart erupts into erratic beating. I don’t ever remember feeling like this – Feeling his safe. He doesn’t let go for a while. His lips constantly move against mine. Our lips were meant to be together. Our bodies interlock. Our bodies were meant to be together. But perhaps most importantly, our hearts entwine officially. New undiscovered feelings break into action as our lip lock s Avant garde confidence into my mind.
I am now his wife.
Wife.
Forever bound as everyone as witness.
My mind replays the moment we first met – the moment this all began.
“Sunghyun Oppa,” One of the girls flirts, brushing against him lightly.
“Miss Kim Eunjung. Detention,” He sternly moves away from her.
“It’s the first day Sir,” I blurt out, in defence of Kim Eunjung’s stupid actions.
“It’s not the first day of term. It’s the first day I’m here,” He corrects.
A teacher’s personality never clashes with mine. I wasn’t going to let this new teacher come in and trample over everyone else.
“Jeez Hee Young! Let me have a detention with a hot guy!” Eunjung grimaces.
My mouth drops, literally. I don’t even know if I saw a smirk. I think he smirked. I bury my face behind my book and waddle on back to class.
It soon came to me. I watch as the smirking teacher from before enters the classroom and stretches his long limbs. He eyes us all behind slamming his books onto the table and the class grows silent. His sharp eyes quickly find mine. I sigh and stare at my desk, fondling with the end of my pen. He opens his mouth to begin his huge introduction, but he instead shuts his mouth close and forces a smile.
“Sunghyun Woo at your service,” He clicks his fingers.
“Really…” I murmur under my breath.
When I first met the man, I didn’t know what to thin. I don’t think it was love at first sight. Yet something definitely sparked. It was undeniable. He had a certain charisma about him, a certain charisma I was attracted to. And funnily enough, he showed interest in me. I can’t forget how lucky I am. It was a peculiar way to display first impressions. I thought he was a stupid player of a teacher. Perhaps he was. But he was allowed to be.
And then came the moment where my heart first burst into excitement.
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re not pretty?”
“No”.
What kind of question is that? I want to sink into my chair. I sheepishly blush under my bangs. No one has told me that I’m pretty or anything else than that. I’ve been called pretty occasionally with my family, but parents call you pretty no matter what.
“It’s because you’re beautiful”.
I groan into Kevin’s kiss. I was so naïve. It is a little hilarious now that I think about it. I reminiscence back to the feelings I had. Oh, I wished it would last forever. The warmth that butterflied over my stomach was magical. And now I know that feeling will last forever. And this is an example of it.
I break away from the kiss, a grin breaking out onto my face. The crowd raises a pandemonium, cheering for everyone. Yoona is squealing with Eunhyuk by her side. Sungjong is cheering the loudest, his high pitched yelps riding over the rest of the applause. And then there’s Kevin’s best friends, UKISS, raising an uproar on their own. I watch Kevin smile at his parents. His mother miraculously kept her eyesight, thanks to the medial procedure she went through. We don’t know how much longer she will last, but it doesn’t matter at the moment. She proudly smiles at Kevin, and so does his father.
Kevin’s hand finds mine and interlocks her fingers.
“Let’s be together, forever”.
“Forever”.
