Running From Stalkers

Lina's Boarding House: All Aliens Welcome

Today, school seemed to be endless. It obviously didn't help that Youngjae kept trying to get your attention next to you by nudging your foot or poking your arm when the teacher wasn't looking. Or that you knew Daehyun was up in the tree outside the window watching you, or that you could see blonde hair outside.

When the bell finally rang, you were out of your seat like a rocket, shooting out of class before anyone had even noticed that school was over.

In one swift move, you shoved everything into your backpack and rushed to the girl's bathroom, where you could have some privacy.

Panicking, you found a spot near the wall that didn't look completely disgusting and slid to the ground, attempting to make up a plan to get away from those annoying stalker aliens.

You couldn't think long, though. Every second wasted is a chance for them to surround you.

The door opened, and your heart jumped right into your throat.

Two girls, one with short chin-length hair and the other with curly hair highlighted with red streaks, both gossiping and giggling, loudly entered. You sighed in relief and relaxed.

The girl with the short hair went into a stall and her friend looked at her phone. It was a bit awkward to just be there in silence while her friend was peeing, so you decided to say, "Um, hi."

The girl looked at you weirdly. "Um, yeah. What're you doing, like, sitting on the ground? That's, like, unsanitary and gross."

"I have my reasons," you said seriously. The girl gave you another weird look, before a grin suddenly made its way onto her face. "Ooh, I bet you're, like, hiding, aren't you?"

"Yeah, I guess you could say that."

The toilet flushed, and her friend came out. "Ooh, is it a BOY?" She didn't seem at all embarrassed that she had been listening in to the conversation the entire time.

"Um, yes. A bunch of them, actually." You saw the look on their faces and blushed. "N-no, not like that! I-I mean, we're friends -- sort of -- and they're just rambunctious little tykes. It's just that I don't really want to be around them right now, but they keep bothering me and --"

"Does he have anything to do with that new blonde kid who appeared out of nowhere?" The girl said, washing her hands. Her long-haired friend was taking out a tube of lip gloss and staring into the bathroom mirror, applying it to her lips.

Your face grew even hotter. "W-well, um ..."

"It totally is, right?" the girl cackled. "My friend is in that class, and she said he has this like super-blonde hair, and even though he looks pure Korean, the hair looks NATURAL. Like, how weird is that?"

You gulped. "Y-yes, really weird." Oh, god, what if they realized he wasn't human?

"And she also said he's, like, suuuuper-cute too. Is he your friend, really? That's, like, so awesome, you have a hot guy as a friend!"

You relaxed again. Judging from the tone of her voice, Youngjae's looks were more important than his unnatural hair colour.

"I heard that there were a bunch of other blondie boys hanging outside, like, looking through windows and stuff," short-hair continued on. "They're the other boys following you around, right? Are they, like, related or something?"

"Sort of, not really," you automatically said. "Um, non-blood-related relatives."

The girls blinked at you. "That, like, doesn't make any sense at all."

You shrugged, hoping they just accepted your rather bull answer. "C'est la vie."

"Girl, if you really are pissed at those boys, you can't go around hiding from them," curly-streaks said expertly, as though that happened to her all the time. "You have to show them who's boss, otherwise they'd start thinking you're weak sauce and they'll push you all over the place."

"You better listen to Hyoju," short-hair said, choosing to flick her hands and dry them on her skirt than using the hand dryer. "She has, like, five brothers."

Hyoju nodded. "Get angry at them. It doesn't matter what you do: scream, cry, flip tables, throw knives, whatever floats your boat. Point is, show them they gotta listen to you and what you have to say. That's, like, the golden rule to dealing with boys like those. Show them they have to listen to your opinion and respect your wishes."

"Wow, that's pretty awesome. Hey, thanks!" You smiled a bit shyly at them. You've never really talked to people outside of your class before.

"No problem. I'm Jisu, by the way." The short-haired girl gave you a little smile. "Well, good luck and stuff, blondie."

As Hyoju and Jisu walked out of the bathroom, you wondered where the name "blondie" came from. Maybe it wasb ecause Jisu noticed all the boys going after you were blonde. Sighing, you wondered how much more messed up your life could get. Then you smiled a bit.

Whether those aliens destroyed your school reputation -- not that you had any -- or not, they DID cause you to meet new people. Who, if not friends, at least knew you and was nice to you.

It was honestly pleasant having a decent conversation with someone besides your not-so-nice convos with Taena and her mean friends.

You steeled yourself, remembering Jisu and Hyoju's words. You tried to get yourself worked up.

Those idiots did nothing but ruin my life, the least they could do is respect my wishes and don't bother me while I'm at school!

But the closer you got to the bathroom exit, the more nervous and chickened-out you felt. By the time your hand was on the handle, all you wanted to do was run away and hide somewhere, maybe the ramyeon shop with the nice owner, for the rest of the day. You could wash dishes for him and do homework in-between.

Yes, that'll be nice, you thought, trying to be optimistic through your cowardice. He's such a nice shopkeeper anyway, I'm sure he wouldn't mind. I need a part-time job anyway ...

You slowly opened the door and peeked out. There weren't any students around -- they were all quickly rushing home to do homework or play video games, or maybe going out somewhere to hand out with friends.

You felt a slight jolt in your stomach. You wished you could be like them; have friends who would say "Hey, Lina! Come on, let's go karaoke!" or something.

But you didn't. All you had was your wonderful but constantly-absent godfather and annoying stalker aliens. And Taena, but she didn't really count.

You stepped outside. When the bathroom door slammed closed behind you, it made a loud, echoing sound all the way down the hall. What if they heard? You remembered they had supersonic hearing. Your heart sank when you remembered their supersonic athleticism, too. If they DID find you, you couldn't exactly run away.

You slowly made your way towards the closest exit. You passed a janitor along the way, who didn't spare you a single glance as he mopped up the floors.

You left the school, feeling the crisp November air sting your bare legs and face. You shivered and breathed hot air onto your fingers so they could stay warm.

You shouldered your backpack, wincing slightly at the heaviness of it. Your teachers didn't have any mercy when it came to homework -- you had a feeling you might need Yongguk and Himchan's help again for math. Then you remembered you were supposed to be mad at them, so you quickly stopped thinking about it.

You hadn't walked more than three steps when someone suddenly grabbed your backpack and pulled it off your shoulder. You gasped and whirled around, turning your neck so fast you got a crick.

"It's heavy, isn't it?" Yongguk said in his deep, rumbling voice, throwing it over his own shoulder.

You didn't know why you did it. Maybe you just panicked.

Either way, you suddenly turned back and sprinted down the street as fast as you could go.

"Hey -- what the? YAH! SEO LINA!!!!"

You turned down a side street and kept through the small alleyways, your heart racing. They may be faster, but you knew this place better than them. All you had to do was get to Seoul's main road, and you'd be lost in the crowd.

Why were you even running to begin with? You didn't know why, but you decided to just go with it and keep running.

"LINA!!!" You heard someone yell behind you. You squeaked and ran down another alleyway, just in time too. The second you were under cover in the shadows of the alley, you felt something zoom right by you down the other street, making your hair fly up. You quickly patted your skirt back down and started running again.

You were just at the main road -- so close to crowds and civilization -- when something suddenly grabbed your arm. You panicked again, lost your head, and screamed.

Another hand instantly wound around and clapped over your mouth, effectively cutting off your shriek of terror.

Honestly, calm down, Seo Lina. Daehyun shook his head. You're making it sound like you're getting attacked or something.

You struggled and flailed, but Daehyun -- in all his slender frame -- wouldn't move an inch. You finally stopped and glared at him.

Are you going to run away?

You struggled some more and managed to push his hand off of your mouth. "I don't understand what you're saying if you don't SAY IT, darn you, Daehyun!"

He just smirked behind the mask. You glowered at him, feeling a bit resentful and sulky. You were SO CLOSE, too. But how did he find you? You didn't hear anything behind you ...

You looked up and the rooftops of the buildings and houses and your jaw dropped. "Daehyun ... did you ...?"

Daehyun nodded, looking pleased with himself that you were so shocked.

He pulled your hand, and when you tried to wrench yourself free, he simply picked you up and slung you over his shoulder like a rag doll and walked away as calm as can be.

You would have put up more of a fight, but images of Daehyun jumping from rooftop to rooftop as stealthy as a cat was playing through your mind.

You seriously underestimated those stupid alien's powers.

"Oh, good, you found her!" Himchan smiled in relief when Daehyun appeared in front of the Gajok Boarding House. "Lina, how are you? Are you feeling okay? Daehyun, let her down, what if she's uncomfortable?"

Daehyun rolled his eyes but did as he was told. He flipped you over and gently lowered you to the ground. You blinked and stood there stupidly as the blood rushed around your body, making you dizzy.

Finally, you recovered and glared at them all. They were all just STANDING there in front of the house, as cool as you please, looking like it wasn't a big deal at all to basically kidnap a girl.

"YOU are transferring out of my school RIGHT NOW, Youngjae!" You snapped at the blonde alien, who simply smirked. "How can I? My records are already on the school's filing system."

"You're an alien! You don't HAVE any records!"

"I do now."

"You -- you -- UGH!" You couldn't find a word to describe him. "Why did you have to go and RUIN my school life too?!"

"You weren't happy to see us?" Himchan pouted.

"NO I WASN'T!!! IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED BY NOW, I AM FURIOUS!!!"

Yongguk just shrugged uncaringly, your backpack still slung over his shoulder. "Whatever. Can we go inside now? I'm hungry."

"No you can't!" You snapped angrily, feeling like you couldn't give them a harsher punishment for messing with your life. "As a matter of fact, NONE of you are allowed in! You can all sleep outside for all I care! You're NOT allowed in my house ever again, you -- you CREEPY STALKER ALIEN BRATS!!!"

Daehyun simply looked amused at your words. Youngjae looked horrified, which made you feel at least a little bit better, until he opened his mouth.

"WHAT? But where are we supposed to go to eat and watch TV?"

"I don't care!" You growled. "Do whatever you want!"

You were about to unlock the door and go inside, but Himchan quickly stepped in front of you. "Do something, Yongguk!" He said frantically. "I don't want to sleep outside, it's cold!"

"Dammit! I don't know what to do!" Yongguk said, sounding a bit freaked out himself.

"Get lost, Himchan!" You tried to step away, but he immediately blocked you. "MOVE!!!"

"Please stop, Lina!" He said frantically.

"Don't, noona! I don't wanna leave Gajok!" Zelo wailed.

Daehyun stared at Youngjae. Do something!

Youngjae stared around wildly before landing his eyes on Jongup, who was hesitating on the sidelines. He grabbed the alien by the shoulders and made him face him.

"Jongup! Pull your blank-faced aegyeo on her and make her calm down, understand?"

Without waiting for an answer, he shoved Jongup towards you.

"U-um, Lina --" he started to say. You him. "WHAT?!!"

He flinched. "Um -- I -- I'm sorry ..." He hunched up his shoulders.

You felt your anger slowly dissipating. "No, that is -- Jongup --"

"P-please don't be angry, Lina," he said sadly, staring at you sadly. "We're sorry. Please don't be mad, okay?"

You struggled to remember Hyoju and Jisu's words, but they didn't say anything about a boy who had an aegyeo that made you forget what you were mad about in the first place.

"Aww, Jongup, don't look so sad!" You resisted the urge to pinch his cheeks. "Don't -- oh, come on ... alright, alright, I'm sorry, okay? I'm not mad anymore, don't look at me like that ... no, I won't throw you guys out, I promise --"

"YAAAAAAYYYY!!!" Himchan immediately cut in, stealing the key out of your hand and unlocking the door himself. "Awesome! Okay, let's go inside and have hot chocolate or something and work this out nicely, alright?"

Before you could say anything else, the door was open and Yongguk's hand was on your back, gently but firmly pushing you inside. You stumbled along, unable to resist. You had a feeling they were always holding back on their strength, and that did nothing to make you feel better.

"I'm not finished with you yet," you warned Youngjae with a frown. "We still have to talk about this school thing."

"You know what? You're absolutely right," Youngjae suddenly said, shocking you. Was he serious?

"I was thinking of bringing in Zelo and Jongup too. Excellent, thanks for bringing it up, Lina." He smiled at you and pinched your cheeks. "You're the best."

He walked into the kitchen.

"YOUNGJAE!!!!!"
