Chapter 6
When the Dawn BreaksIn a white and blue hospital gown, Wendy’s weak and unconscious body laid connected to all sorts of tubes and wires. By her side sat the two youngest of the group, Yeri and Joy, both sitting with swollen eyes, with endless tears flowing still. Both holding each other, but crying even harder because when they cried, Wendy was always there to hold them. Just as Yeri and Joy sniffled, Wendy’s doctor had entered into the room.
“I’m assuming you are both wondering about Wendy-sshi’s condition at the moment. Now, I need to be honest with you, and I need you both to be honest with me.” Doctor Kim asked sternly with the two girls.
“Yes Doctor, we will be honest, just please tell us about Unnie. Will she be okay? Will she make it? Is it serious? What’s happening? Please please.” The pair pleaded with red eyes at the doctor.
“I need to know how Wendy’s lifestyle has been recently. The last time she visited me was two months ago. She came in three days straight and asked me to run some tests on her, as she was having her chest pains once more.” Doctor Kim said, looking at the puzzled faces of the pair.
Yeri and Joy had remembered two months prior, when they were all in the practice room and how they noticed Wendy in the mirror’s reflection was out of breath compared to all of them, sweating profusely and already pale, however the pair and Seulgi had completely disregarded it, and how Irene had harshly scolded her for not working “hard enough”. The guilt began engulf them both and swallow them whole.
“Girls, I know this is hard for you, especially because her heart has returned back to its original weak state, however the problem is that it’s even worse than before. But I’m sure you guys have watched over and taken care of Wendy for the past two months.” the Doctor said, completely oblivious to the guilt that was tearing away at their thoughts. “I need to know why Wendy has so much alcohol in her system. I need to know how she’s been eating. Has she been eating healthy foods? Has she been exercising too much or too little? How’s her sleeping schedule?”
Yeri began clutching at her chest, with Joy gripping onto Yeri’s shoulders, both speechless for a minute of pin-drop silenc
