chapter 3: Blind Date

Innocent Love

Jimin disappointed that he was unable to get a hold of Jungkook, since the last time they messaged each other on Facebook, he wanted to clarify what Jungkook meant when he said he was planning on coming back after the season ends. He is hoping Taehyung was not right about Jungkook coming back next year because he would be in New York by then if he gets accepted into the Dance Academy. He twirls with his spaghetti, picking at it,

“You’re not a child,” says his father, “Stop playing with the food.” Jimin looks up, he was so in his head, he forgot he was sitting at the table with his father. He puts the fork down and picks up his glass of cranberry juice,

“Sorry,” he says.

“Everything alright?” asks his mom.

“Yeah,” says Jimin.

“Don’t make any plans tomorrow night,” says his father out of the blue. Confused Jimin looks at his mom, who looked as confused as him,

“Why not?” he asks staring at his father blank.

“Because the company is holding an event,” says his father, I need you there.”

Jimin chuckles, “Since when did you care whether I attend business-related events or not?”

“Since you decided not to go to college,” replies his father, “And besides, I'm sure you won’t be bored.”

He cuffs, “How do you figure that?” he says, “You and I have different meanings of fun.”

“No matter what, you must be there,” says his father.

Jimin sighs, “May I be excused then? I am not hungry.”

Jimin lays down on his bed, staring at the ceiling, his mind was running all over the place. He was looking forward to seeing Jungkook, he got his hopes up, they kept in touch for nine, almost ten years, the longest they went without talking to each other was six months. All those times they spoke, the conversation about feelings never came up, all Jimin knew that they made a promise when they were kids but whether that promise was still intact remained a mystery. He was always to shy to bring up the topic because what was the point when the guy he is madly in love with is more than a thousand miles away. Jimin squeezes his pillow, his phone rings, he stares at the phone vibrating on top of the drawer, he reaches his hand out and grabs the phone,

“Hello?”

Hey,” says the voice on the other side of the receiver.

Taehyung?” says Jimin, not recognizing the voice, it didn’t sound like his friend,

“No, it's Jack.”

Jimin sits up, he stares at the phone, puzzled, how the did he get my number? He clears his throat,

Um, hi,” says Jimin skeptical, “How did you get my number?

“Sorry to call you out of the blue,” says Jack, “I got it from Maria, sorry I know it was inappropriate, I just didn’t know how to ask you.”

“Ahhhhh…it’s okay, I guess,” says Jimin, damn it, So did you need something?”

“No, you weren’t in class today,” says Jack, “Is everything alright?”

Jimin sighs and rolls his eyes, as nice and good-looking as Jack is, he had no interest in him, not because he is in love with Jungkook, but he just wasn’t interested.

I’m fine, just feeling a little under the weather,” says Jimin, “I think the heat got to me, thanks for asking.”

It was quiet for a minute,

Alright, as long as you’re alright,” says Jack, breaking the silence,

“Good night,” says Jimin, Jack says good night, and he hangs up the phone and drops it on the bed. He falls back on his pillow, he picks up another pillow and screams into it. Just what I in' need!

The next day, Jimin, Taehyung, and Mina decided to go to the beach. Taehyung on the surfboard, he was the only one who knew how to surf, Jimin hated it and Mina couldn’t be bothered with it. Jimin gets out of the water and walks to where Mina was sitting. He spreads out his blanket and sits down, water dripping from his hair, he pushes his hair away from his face, his golden-brown hair glistening from the sun and water. He looks at Mina who was reading,

“What are you reading?” he asks,

“Just a textbook for a class,” she replies, “Stupid summer class is killing me.”

“Who told you to take a summer class?” says Jimin.

“I don’t the have the same luxury of dragging out university like TaeTae and you,” she replies. Jimin smiles, she is right, Mina is from San Antonio, Texas, she moved to Los Angeles for college. She comes from a traditional Japanese family and they were unhappy when she decided to study out of state. She comes from a wealthy family but not as wealthy as Jimin and Taehyung, her dad is the CEO of a meat company in Texas. Her parents pay for her classes at UCLA but refuse to pay for dancing lessons. She wanted to be an actress at first but switched to dancing, she is majoring in films but also works part-time to pay for dance classes. He met her when they were freshmen in English class, they became friends automatically, he was attracted by optimistic personality and still hanged out when Jimin dropped out of college to focus on dancing.

Taehyung comes sits next to Jimin,

“Why aren’t you guys swimming?” asks Taehyung.

“Busy,” says Mina,

“Too tired,” says Jimin, he stares at Taehyung, looking at him up and down “Have you been working out?”

Taehyung smirks, “I look good don’t I.”

“So full of yourself,” says Jimin.

“Whatever,” says Taehyung, “Are we going out tonight?”

“Can’t,” says Jimin, “My dad wants me to go to a company event.”

“Ah,” teases Mina, “Finally being a dutiful son?”

His mom opens the door, “Your dad called to ask if you are ready?” Jimin sighs to bothered to care, but he does not want to get into it with his dad. He was already in a black suit since his father insisted he dresses up. He hated wearing suits but gave in to his father’s request since he knows the only time his father would bother him is if it is something important. His father called him an hour ago telling him to go to The Palm Los Angeles, which is a fancy and expensive restaurant, Jimin wondered what kind of event was being held there but he was exhausted to question his father.

“Wow,” says his mom, “You look very handsome and intelligent, you should dress like this often.”

Jimin rolls his eyes and forces a smile, his mom shakes her head,

“Drive carefully.”

After driving for thirty minutes he finally reached the restaurant, he looks around and finds a parking spot. He parks the car and gets out, he heads to the restaurant. The last time he came to the Palms was a year ago with his parents, he loved the place, it was quiet and scenery and romantic. He opens the door, he his eyes looks around for any signs of an event, but it was too quiet for anything to be happening. Confused he walks to front desk,

“Hi, how may I help you?” says the girl behind the counter,

“Um, is there an event held by Parks Hotel and Resorts?”

“Let me look,” she says, she goes into the computer,

“Are you Jimin Park?”

Jimin nods his head,

“You have a reservation,” she says. She leads Jimin to his table, he sits down, and he wasn’t there for long until the hostess came back with someone else besides her, a beautiful Korean girl with long curly hair wearing a blue dress and high heels.

“Are you Jimin?” asks the girl, Jimin stares at her blank, is she talking to me?

“Um…yeah,” he replies skeptically. The girl smiles and sits down across from him,

“I’m Sulli Lee,” she says extending her hand, still confused he quickly shakes her hand. Everything started to make sense, the suit, the restaurant, and the girl, now sitting in front of him all dressed up, He set me up for a blind date, ing hell, how the did I fall for this? Damn. Who the does he think he is?

The waitress places two glasses of water,

“Did you order yet?” asks Sulli. Jimin still cursing at his father in his mind, didn’t hear a word she said,

“Is everything alright?” she asks. Jimin snaps out of it and stares at her, holding in his anger. He clenches his fingers under the table,

“Um, did you know this was a date?” he asks suddenly.

“You didn’t know?” she replies, looking surprised, “No, my mom told to come to an event here.”

“Of course, they did,” says Jimin, biting his lower lip, ignoring the pain. He could just walk out but he knew it would be rude, she didn’t do anything wrong, it wouldn’t be fair to her.

“Looks like our parents really got us this time,” she says laughing, Jimin stares at her unable to share her humor.

“Yeah,” he mumbles underneath his breath,

“Sorry,” she says, “It’s funny how old fashion our parents are. Now I know why my mom kept talking about you for the past month.”

“That’s funny,” says Jimin, “No one mentioned you.” It gets quiet until the waitress places a plate of salad and two bowls of soup on the table.

“We must as well just enjoy this,” says Sulli, she turns to the waitress “gives us a few minutes.”

“Whenever you’re ready.”

Jimin watches as the waitress walks away, he runs his hand through his hair, he still couldn’t believe his father set him up on a blind date, he already had enough going on without his father getting into his business.

“So, do you have a girlfriend?”

Jimin stares at her, surprised at how blunt she is,

“Why is that your business?” he asks, he curses at himself, he didn’t mean for it to sound so rude, she smiles, I got to get out of here.

“How come your so calm?” asks Jimin, “Are you not angry?”

“Well, this isn’t the first time my parents set me up on a blind date,” she replies, “I’m used to it, I just brush it off.”

“Really?” says Jimin, “This the first time my parents have ever interfered in my personal life, well my dad.”

“Yeah, it’s irritating,” she says, “But we might as well just eat, why waste the time right?”

Jimin forces a smile, feeling awkward,  he will give his parents a piece of his mind once he gets back home. He still couldn't believe he fell for his father's trick.
