Chapter 31: Dinner Party

Innocent Love

After spending the morning with Jungkook after the disastrous breakfast in bed, Jimin and Jungkook spent the day at his house, hanging out with his mother and Sana but went to his room to play games, well Jungkook wanted to play Jimin since it’s been a while since they played video games against each other aside from the time they went to the late-night arcade. Jimin not in the mood to lose against him, decided to humor him since it was his birthday, and off course the game went as Jimin anticipated, Jungkook won and Jimin lost, but he convinced him to play again, letting Jimin win. He got an invitation from his online friends to play Overwatch but Jimin did not want to play so he let him do it himself. Jimin was stunned by how much Jungkook loves playing video games. It was amazing how much passion he has for video games, witnessing this side of Jungkook was breathtaking, realizing that Jungkook still a kid at heart and that’s a good thing since he sometimes seems to act like he is older than Jimin. Jimin lights up, sitting up from the bed, getting an idea, aside from the dinner he was planning for his birthday, he also needed to buy him a birthday present but Jungkook and he have always had the things they wanted, so he was struggling with what to buy him. Now watching Jungkook he realizes he could just buy him a GameStop gift card, it wasn’t much but he sure Jungkook would be happy about it.

He gets off the bed, he quickly walks to where Jungkook was sitting, he kisses him on the cheek, Jungkook stares at him confused,

“I have to go,” says Jimin, “I’ll see you later.”

“Hyung!” calls Jungkook, as Jimin dashes out of the door, blowing him a kiss and closing the door behind him. When he reaches outside he see Jungkook’s mom painting, it’s been awhile since he saw her painting, he did not realize she was still into it, Jimin always thought Jungkook took her artistic side with his interest in photography,

“Jimin,” she says, “Leaving already?”

“Yeah, I have some errands to run,” replies Jimin, “Um, can I ask you for a favor, aunty?” She stops giving him full attention, curious,

“What is it?”

“I think the party idea you mentioned this morning for Jungkook is a good idea,” he says, she looks at him confused because Jungkook did turn down the idea of any kind of parties,

“Jungkook just didn’t want to be surrounded by a bunch of strangers that’s why he does not want a party, but I was thinking instead of a dinner party, with his friends and family instead, nothing big, just a dinner.”

“Hmm, that should be fine,” says his mom, smiling, “That would be wonderful, do you mind if I host it?”

“No,” says Jimin, “Go ahead, you missed out on many of his birthdays as well, this is his first birthday with us, his mom should oversee it.”

“Thanks,” she says, “But…what if he refuses to show up?”

“Don’t worry about that,” says Jimin, “Jimin says bye to her and heads home, he was home when he realized he left the tray at Jungkook but decides to pick it up some other day, he calls up Taehyung to see if he was home, but it went to voicemail, he dials Mina phone. It was answered by Dahyun, he was surprised but did not have time to investigate anything, she is dating Mina, after all, he asks of Mina’s whereabouts and she tells him that she was at home but was attending something. He hangs up the phone and decides to visit Mina at her house to get some advice because aside from the gift card, he also wanted to get him something personal, but he had no idea what. He usually knows what to get people on their birthday, even his closest friends, he would get them something they have been eyeing at a store or something they told him, they have wanted for a long time but with Jungkook, it was complicated not because he has everything but because he says he does not want anything, which makes Jimin wonder, if it is possible that he truly doesn’t want anything?

Jimin sighs when he parks the car at Mina’s apartment, he gets out of the car and heads to her apartment, he knocks on the door, tapping his foot with his hands in his sweater, the door opens, and he smiles at Dahyun,

“Jimin,” she says, “Hi, come in, I told Mina you called.”

“Thanks,” says Jimin, “I’m not interrupting, am I?

She nods her head no and tells him to come, he walks with her to the living room,

“Give me a minute!” shouts Mina from the kitchen, Jimin walks to the kitchen curious, and Mina was under the sink,

“What’re you doing?”

“Fixing this ing drainage,” she replies, “I’ll be with you in a minute.” Jimin nods her head, chuckling, she really is a strange person, he walks into the living room to join Dahyun. It was quiet for a while, he knew Dahyun for a long time, but they were not friends and since it has been a while since he saw her, he did not know what to say to her, she smiles at him, and clears ,

“Can I ask you something?”

Jimin turns to her, “Go ahead?”

“Mina told me, Jungkook and you are like childhood lovers is that true, you guys have been in love with each other since you were kids?” Jimin stares at her, blank, not knowing what to make of her random question, he scratches his head, tries to think of how to answer her. Jungkook and he were not exactly childhood lovers, by the time they realize what love is and true feelings, they were separated by distance, with him in Los Angeles and Jungkook in Seoul. He has never once thought they were childhood lovers, he just knows he has always been in love with Jungkook since he can remember. He clears his throat,

“Um…Childhood lovers?” he says, “I mean, we didn’t really think about love when we were kids, we just knew we wanted to spend time with each other more often than other kids, why do you ask?”

She smiles and shrugs her shoulders, “I guess…I mean, you guys are an example of two people finding each other, like fate and destiny, I think it’s cute.” Jimin blushes, he never really thought about their relationship like that, he was not much to believe in fate and destiny but realizes what he and Jungkook share are special, something he never thought would ever be possible.

“Stop scaring him,” says Mina, walking in the kitchen, she looked a mess so Jimin could not help but laugh at her,

“Scare him,” says Dahyun,

“Yeah, you keep talking about destiny, he is gonna get scared,” she teases, Jimin glares her, motioning for Dahyun to dismiss her,

“Today is Jungkook birthday,” says Mina, “I thought you guys would be glued together, some passionate all day until the next day.”

Jimin dismisses her, “His mom is having a dinner for him since he refused any kind of parties, you guys better are there.”

“Of course,” says Mina, “Do you even have to ask, our friend, we’ll be there.”

“I came here because I am struggling on what present to give him,” says Jimin, “I’m gonna get him a GameStop gift card but I don’t know what else to get him.”

“Do you need to get anything else,” says Dahyun, surprised,

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, he would love the gift card, Jungkook loves video games,” says Dahyun, “He would be really happy with the gift card, that’s cute and useful.”

Jimin clears his throat, “That’s true,” he laughs for being idiotic, stressing himself for no reason.

Jimin didn’t stay at Mina for long, he passed by a GameStop to purchase the gift card and decided to stop by the mall to purchase a bracelet he has always wanted to get for Jungkook before he even moved to Los Angeles, it was a couple’s bracelet. After he was done with his errand, he looks at the time and it was already getting late, the dinner was at seven o’clock. When he got home, his mom was in the living room, he greets and heads to his room, he called everyone to make sure they make it on time, he gathers his gift, it was in small boxes, so he did not have to carry a lot. He was feeling sleepy since he woke up early in the morning, so he decided to take a nap, he set an alarm for the six-fifty pm and lies on the bed, he was excited, so it took a while for him to fall asleep.

The alarm blurs and vibrant, Jimin mumbles and his hand presses the snooze button, he turns to the other side and goes back to sleep. The door opens moments later, and his mom walks in shocked to find him sleeping,

“Jimin,” she calls, “Sweetie, wake up.” She shakes her head and walks to the bed, she taps him slowly on the shoulder,

“What?” he mutters,

“Wake up, Jungkook’s mom has been calling your cell phone, you're late.”

Jimin opens his eyes, confused, he stares at his mom, “Wha…late?” he turns to look at the watch, it was already seven-forty, he grabs his hair, freaking out, curses himself, as he jumps off the bed and runs to the bathroom, he quickly splashes water on his face, he was already dressed but his clothes were wrinkles and crease, he sighs, damn, I can’t believe I fell asleep, I’m ing late. He rushes out of the room, forgetting the gifts as he makes his way to Jungkook’s house, he exhales, looking at his phone, twenty missed calls, from Jungkook’s mom, Jungkook, Taehyung, Mina, he walks slowly, the dinner was outside at the poolside, he walks quickly, slowing down for second, hesitating, embarrassed for being late despite calling and reminding his friends to make it on time. His phone rings and it was Jungkook, he was about to answer it but sees him walking around the corner, Jungkook spots him, and walks towards him, he looked upset,

“,” curses Jimin underneath his breath, he smiles and approaches Jungkook,

“Hyung,” says Jungkook, “Are you okay?”

“Huh? I’m fine,” says Jimin, running his fingers through his hair,

“What happened? Everyone is waiting for you,” says Jungkook.

“Um, it’s a long story, let's join everyone,” says Jimin, “Sorry for being late.”

They walk to the poolside; his eyes widen at the beautiful setup and decorations Jungkook’s mother did. He was touched, feeling guilty for being late and putting her efforts almost to a waste, the dinner was halted, looks like they were waiting for him, everyone was sitting around the pool, chatting and laughing, as they approach them, everyone turns to look at him, Taehyung and Mina walk towards him, scowling at him,

“Dude, what happened?” asks Taehyung.

“Um,” says Jimin, clearing his throat, why can’t everything go right today? “Ah, I kind of fell asleep.” They stare at him,

“Okay,” says Jungkook’s mom, “He is here, let’s eat before the food gets cold.”

Dinner was served at a long table placed under an open canopy, draped with white woven fabric, and lit by gold chandeliers with white dining chairs and white table linens. Many of the dishes served are Jungkook’s favorite so the main course consisted of flour foods, such as pasta and meat, a variation of Korean dishes with wine and champagne.  He looks around, and realizes Dahyun and Hoseok were both there, he smiles at them, he looks to his left side, sees a girl he did not recognize but believes her to be Lalisa, he smiles, avoiding eye contact, of course she would be at the dinner, she is friends with Jungkook, he tried not to feel annoyed, it was Jungkook’s night. His mom stands up and clearing , she picks her glass, she holds it up,

“Happy twenty-first birthday, sweetie,” she says, Jungkook chuckles at her formality, feeling shy,

“I have missed many birthdays when you were living with your father, I’m glad I can celebrate your birthday here with you and among your friends, I wish you all the happiness and success the world has to offer, happy birthday.”

“Happy birthday!” shout everyone, Jungkook takes Jimin’s hand, squeezing it, Jimin looks at him, he was blushing,

“Thanks, mom,” says Jungkook, “Everything looks beautiful.” Everyone cheers and take a sip of their drinks, and start to eat, laughing and smiling.

“So,” says Taehyung, looking at Jimin, “Got any words for the birthday boy, I mean your boyfriend?” Jimin glares at him, feeling embarrassed,

“None of your business,” he replies,

“You guys are together?” asks Hoseok, looking at Jimin, “Jungkook is the boy you were always talking about back in high school, right?” Jimin’s mouth open slightly, Jungkook looks at him, both of their cheeks flush,

“Yeah,” says Taehyung, “They have been in love since they were kids, isn’t that cute?”

“Ya!” scolds Jimin, “Would just eat, your mouth is busy talking bull.” Everyone laughs as Jimin and Jungkook squirm at their friend’s teasing. Dinner went smoothly, and after eating, they gather around Jungkook who was sitting with a chocolate buttermilk cake filled and frosted with chocolate cream cheese frosting, with a drizzle of rich chocolate ganache and a candle on top it. Jimin places his hands on his shoulder standing behind him, Jungkook smiles, as everyone wishes him a happy birthday before blowing off the candle, cheers, and claps follow.

The rest of dinner went smoothly, even though Jimin parents were not able to attend, his dad was at work and his mom had some errand to finish. To finish off the night, it was time to give Jungkook’s gift, Taehyung volunteers for Jimin to go first, Jimin reaches in his pockets but felt nothing, his mouth open,

“,” he says, everyone looks at him, he clears his throat, “I forgot them home.” Everyone burst out laughing,

“Wow,” says Mina, “You’re so cute, first you fall asleep and then forget to bring the gifts.” Jungkook squeezes Jimin’s hand,

“It’s fine,” says Jungkook, “Now he can just give them to me in private.”

“Whoo!” exclaims everyone, Jimin, and Jungkook laugh dismissing their friends’ taunts.

They said bye to everyone as they were living, Lalisa approaches them, she extends her hand,

“I don’t think we have met,” she says, looking at Jimin, “I’m Lalisa but you can call me Lisa.” He smiles and shakes her hand, “Jimin.”

Lalisa smirks, “You know, I have always been curious about the guy Jungkook is madly in love with, he never told me you were so hot, the way he described you sounded like you were a kid until I found out you’re older than him, he loves acting like he is the oldest.” Jimin laughs, and Jungkook glares at her, she hugs him, wishing him happy birthday before leaving, she waves at them bye. Jimin and Jungkook were left standing there until Sana came to wish Jungkook happy birthday and good night, her plane was leaving in the evening, but she wanted to get some rest. She hugs him and wishes him a happy birthday and gives him a birthday card before returning to her room.

“So, let’s go,” says Jungkook, pulling Jimin by his hand,

“Huh?” says Jimin, puzzled, “Go where?”

“To get my birthday present from your house,” replies Jungkook.

They walk to Jimin’s house, with fingers interlocked, silent, both feeling shy and glancing at each other, they enter the house, it was dark. Jimin turns on the light,

“Looks like my mom went to sleep,” he says, they walk to Jimin’s room, closing the door behind them. Jimin walks to the drawer and picks up the small birthday bag and hands it to Jungkook, who takes grinning, Jimin sits on the bed, his eyes looking everyone and his heart starting to beat, anticipating Jungkook’s reaction. Jungkook takes out the small blue gift card box holder, gazing at Jimin, curious, he opens the box, smiling instantly once he sees the GameStop gift card, he smirks,

“How much?”

“Five hundred, in both the digital and physical card,” says Jimin,

“Wow,” says Jungkook, eyes wide, he stares at Jimin, loss at words,

“There is two more,” says Jimin. Jungkook takes out a small white faux leather box, he opens it, eyes widen at the bracelet

“!” he says, laughing, “This is so beautiful, it must’ve cost a fortune, why two?” Jimin sighs, standing up and takes out the Black Diamond Bracelet, he takes Jungkook’s hand and unlinks the clasp and clasp it on Jungkook’s wrist,

“One for you and one for me,” he says, “You brought us  couple necklace and ring, I’ve always wanted to wear this bracelet but wanted to match with you.” Jungkook takes the other one and puts on Jimin’s wrist, they smile staring at each other,

“I love you,” says Jimin, he wraps his arms around Jungkook, who pulls him in even tighter, embracing him,

“I love you too,” whispers Jungkook, “I always have, I want to be with you forever hyung, this is the best presents you could’ve ever given me.” Jimin smiles, “Of course, your stuck with me forever.” They hold on to each other tight, melting into each other’s body and muscle, every fraction of their body, breathing slowly and rhythmically.
