Chaeyoung’s POV.

After the study session, the four separated. Chaeyoung takes Lisa home while Jisoo went with Jennie. Their houses are closer to each other.

That was weird. I thought to myself.

Even though we are on our ways back home, I can’t stop thinking about what happened. The way that Lisa treated Jennie was off. She might be distant to some but had never been rude to anyone ever.

“Lisa?” I called.

“Yes, Chaeng?” She answered.

“Why did you do that?” I asked.

“Do what?” She responded.

“You were really rude to Jennie. Why did you do that?”

“Oh, Jennie? Nah, I treat everyone like that.”

“Don’t lie to me. You have never been that rude to anyone before.”

“That was rude?” Lisa asked.

“Of course.” I nodded.

“That’s good.” She smiled.

“What? What do you mean ‘that’s good’?” I was shocked.

“I wanted her to dislike me. So I had to be rude to her.”

“…” I don’t even know what’s going on. “You want her to dislike you?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Well, simply because her value to me is very negative. That is a first too. Never had a negative before. Pretty exciting.”

I gave out a sigh. Every time. Every time I talk to her, I felt like a German dog talking to a Chinese cat.

“Value?”

“Yeah. Value.”

“Can you please explain it to me?”

“Sure.” She nodded cheerfully. “I assigned everyone I know a numerical value using a formula and treat them accordingly based on that value.”

“…”

I shouldn’t have asked.

“You assigned everyone numerical value?”

“Yes.”

Don’t judge, Chaeyoung. Don’t judge.

“Okay. Please elaborate for me?”

“It’s pretty simple. There’s only three parts in the formula: my feeling toward the person, their importance or utility in my life, and finally, the amount of attention that person brings.”

“And what do you do with this value?”

“Well, the higher the value, the more affectionate I’ll be.”

“Is that weird?” Seeing my silence, she asked.

“Yes. Lisa. It’s weird.” I nodded.

“I saw video games do that. I thought it’s pretty useful.”
