Not giving up
It’s just the same storyTwo days passed by quickly because BoA had been waking up extra early and after leaving Yoobin at school had been taking the bus to work.
Two days passed by in anguish because Jaejoong had been wondering if BoA had been avoiding him.
Two days passed by like a party because Junsu was clueless of what was happening and he enjoyed the soccer tournament as if he was playing in the field. So when he returned to Seoul and saw the tired face of his hyung he was really worried.
“Jae hyung, what’s wrong?” He asked softly giving the older male a cup of coffee.
“Junsu…I know. I know about BoA’s new family.” Jaejoong said sighing.
For the last couple of days he had been wondering how to start talking about the topic, but when he finally saw Junsu in front of him, he decided to be completely honest about what he had discovered.
“Oh…” and that’s all Junsu could say before they turned silent.
Junsu was afraid of the way Jaejoong found out the truth, but he couldn’t help but to ask.
“How did you…” He trailed off.
“I met her husband and daughter at the elementary school.” Jaejoong said without looking up from his coffee cup.
“Husband?!” Junsu said with an alarmed tone almost knocking down his coffee cup.
“Yeah, I don’t really know much. She said she would explain later, but it seems like she has been avoiding me and…” Jaejoong said with a disappointed voice but he couldn’t finish his speech when Junsu stood up from his chair.
“Who said he was her husband?! Did he say that?! He dared to say that?!” Junsu shouted furiously, but his eyes showed confusion as he continued talking. “Did she say that? BoA told you that?”
Jaejoong looked at him with a shocked expression before patting Junsu’s shoulder.
“Neither of them said that, but…”
“Aish hyung~! Seriously, you almost gave me a heart attack.” Junsu exclaimed with a hand over his heart.
“He is not her husband and he will never be.” Junsu finished talking with a serious voice.
“But…” Jaejoong was confused all over again.
“Hyung…” Junsu began talking while sitting once again still unaware of the uncomfortable faces of his workmates.
“He is not her husband, but he…he is the father of the kid.” He almost whispered.
Jaejoong gasped. He was feeling a bit of hope when Junsu told him that BoA wasn’t married, but now everything was just like before.
“Hyung, she turned crazy when she met him…if it wasn’t for Yoobin I wouldn’t let him be near her at all.”
“So her name is Yoobin…” Jaejoong said sighing.
“Yes, my precious niece…” Junsu said with a smile.
“Junsu, do you think I still have a chance?” Jaejoong asked looking down. He was aware of his feelings but things weren’t easy as before.
“Jae hyung go for it~! I know that even if she didn’t say it, she always wanted to return to your side.”
“Then why…? She was the one who said it was turning out too difficult…” Jaejoong said frowning.
This was something he didn’t want to remember. At that time he had hoped that she would come back to him if he let her go. But the distance between them grew even more and they turned into strangers.
“Hyung, both of you are at fault in this. She got tired too fast and you let her go too easily. Think about that.”
Those were Junsu’s final words before he stood up once again and left.
And Jaejoong just looked down to find a paper Junsu had left on the table. A phone number. BoA’s phone number.
And while Jaejoong sat there biting his lip not sure what to do anymore, BoA was leaving the office to pick up Yoobin from school.
And when she arrived there, as always, her daughter waiting for her with open arms.
“So how was your day?” BoA asked her little girl as they walked down the street.
“It was fun~! We read a book about an elephant and a bear….” Yoobin continued talking while holding her mother’s hand.
They were enjoying their time together as they walked without noticing that across the street was a pair of eyes looking at them.
Jaejoong, now knowing how the situation was, looked at BoA differently.
The first time he saw her in the bus, he was shocked. He was excited about their encounter and hoped she was as happy as him to meet again.
The second time, he was surprised and he felt relieved from the stress of work just by looking at her.
The third time, he felt crushed. Her eyes were avoiding him and she just seemed to run far away from him with her new family by her side.
But this time, it was different.
He was actually seeing BoA being a mother. She looked so happy with her daughter, with a bright smile on her face.
And it was then when he remembered the worried face BoA had when she received the call from the school.
This BoA he was looking at now wasn’t the same as before. This BoA now wasn’t the young girl with the fear of Seoul and with the fear of not reaching her dreams.
This BoA was a happy mom, willing to give everything for her daughter. A mature woman dealing with an ex boyfriend that was her daughter’s father.
But even when she looked happy, has she already given up on her dreams?
And while BoA and Yoobin’s figure disappeared in the distance Jaejoong looked at the sky and sighed.
He still remembered BoA’s figure walking away with her family when they moved to Seoul. And this is when all the memories started to appear in his mind.
So as he rode the bus back home he pictured in his mind those moments in the small town they used to live in.
He still remembered the day they met on the main street of the town after Jaejoong returned from his vacations with his parents. He knew there was a new family in town, but he decided to find out more about them later since the circus had arrived town.
All the villagers walked excitedly through the street and even when Jaejoong wasn’t with his parents he knew exactly were he was going. But it was at the side of the street where he saw a little girl walking alone too, but unlike him she looked lost and scared. And he couldn’t help but run to help her when a bunch of older kids ran by her side pushing her aside making her lose her balance. It was then when Jaejoong’s small hand grabbed hers and helped her stand properly before she hit her head with the tree behind her.
And from that day onwards they were inseparable. Jaejoong taught her everything she should know about the circus, the town, the river and the horses. He was only 8 years old, but his experience in the farm made him a great teacher for little BoA.
But now they were so far away even when they were in the same city. And even though Jaejoong knew it was going to be awkward and difficult at the beginning he wasn’t going to give up.
All the things that had been happening were just a sign that he should remain by her side. This time he wouldn’t let go no matter how hard it got.
Because even when the idea of BoA having a daughter still hurt him, made him sad and angry, he knew that little girl made BoA happy.
And as the bus kept moving the idea of talking to her for real made him anxious.
Should he call her today or tomorrow?
How was he going to bring up the subject?
And…was he ready to listen to BoA’s story?
