Seungkwan barely managed to sleep a wink that night before the competition. Whether it's because he's excited or nervous about the competition, the freshman finds himself rolling around on his bed. The blanket was too hot but the room was too cold for Seungkwan. There are butterflies in his stomach. The boy gave up and sat up on his bed with his back against the headboard. Seungkwan looked around for his phone and called up the one person who's probably in the same situation as him.

"Damn it Mingyu, I can't sleep," Seungkwan complained. 

"Me too," Mingyu said back. "It's almost 2 am but I couldn't fall asleep. Wonnie wouldn't answer my messages and my calls. I really can't sleep."

"Hold on... what the hell?"

"I messaged him earlier but I still didn't get a reply back. It didn't even say he read it. I don't message him much, just ten times."

"Calm down..."

"I really want to talk to him. Maybe, he's sick. Should I go to his dorm to check on him?"

"Calm down first. Shouldn't you be focusing on the competition tomorrow? I mean, today?"

"I am."

"Are you sure?"

"But if Wonwoo doesn't answer my text, I don't think I can fall asleep."

"What did you texted him?"

"I asked what he's doing?"

"And he didn't answer? It's 2 in the morning, don't you think he'll be sleeping?"

"Really?"

"Don't think too much about it."

"It's mostly nonsense that's running through my head. I keep on thinking that he's disgusted with me?" Seungkwan could tell that his friend is outing from the tone. They've been friends for so long that it wouldn't surprise either of them that they can tell what each other facial expression is right now. "He's not like you. He's not gentle... nor does he speak in a friendly tone. It also seemed like he likes yelling at me. All these things make me feel like he doesn't like me."

The shorter freshman chuckled to himself. His friend has fallen deeply for the sophomore. "You're thinking too much. Don't worry about it... From talking to Wonwoo hyung, he's not that type of person."

"Umm ok... Why are you stressing over the competition? No matter what happens, you're losing to me."

"Overly confident, aren't we?" 

"I'm not but let me have this, I want to go on a date with Wonwoo. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty stressed out."

"Whatever, get some sleep."

"Hold on, I'm getting a text," Mingyu paused his conversation with Seungkwan checked the message. "Oh ! Wonnie replied. He told me to go to sleep. What should I say back?"

"Tell him to have a sweet dream?"

"But I want to ask him for encouragements..."

"Well then, you figure it out..."

"Hold on," Mingyu typed a message back to Wonnie. The two freshmen waited for the response. "Yes! He replied. He said he'll clear his stomach so he can eat all my money after the competition. Wonwoo believed in me!"

"Suuuuure," Seungkwan didn't want to ruin his friend enthusiasm. "Ok then, I'm going to sleep."

"Ok, ok, ok..."

The two of them hung up and Seungkwan laid back down on his bed. Talking to his friend didn't calm down his nerve so Seungkwan tried his last resort. He got up and put on his sandals to go outside his dorm room. The freshman skipped down the stairs and ran down the hall on floor 3. His last resort is asking Vernon for cuddles. It wasn't the best plan but it'll for sure get him to sleep. However, Seungkwan stopped once he got around the corner to Vernon's hall and hid.

"Vernon, I ask you something," Sonne said to Vernon in front of his room.

"Sure, what is it? Shouldn't you be sleeping?" Vernon opened the door wider. The sophomore girl walked in. Vernon followed her with his eyes before looking up to see Seungkwan. "Seungkwan, hey! What are you doing here? Not sleeping, yet?"

Seungkwan wasn't expected to get caught. The sophomore walked up to him and hugged him. "Am I disturbing you?"

"Of course not, Sonne just need to talk to me," The sophomore answered without hesitation. "Do you want to eat or something?"

"No... I came to see you."

"Really?" Vernon hid a smile to himself but he couldn't. The sophomore felt his inside flipping from hearing Seungkwan said that. Seungkwan glanced over to Vernon's room to see Sonne staring at them. Vernon turned back to speak to the girl. "Sonne, go ahead and take what you need from my room. I'll sleep at Seungkwan's tonight."

The two boys walked back to Seungkwan's room. After they took off their slippers, they slid under the blanket. Seungkwan was wary of the space between the two of them but Vernon scooped closer and cuddled with the freshman.

"By now, Sonne probably stole everything from your room now," Seungkwan suddenly said.

"It's fine," Vernon shrugged. "The most important to me is with me right now."

Seungkwan was oblivious of the meaning of what Vernon said. "The bracelet?"

"The bracelet too... but you are more important..."

Seungkwan pretends to throw up but he feels very jittery on the inside. "For tomorrow, during the talent show, please listen to me sing."

"Of course, duh."

"No, seriously. It's a song that summarizes how I feel about you."

"Of course, I will listen to every word."

They managed to get in the last couple of hours of sleep before the sun rises. Seungkwan had to go to the auditorium where the competition would take place but Vernon had to go to class. The sophomore managed to get out of class quickly and got to the auditorium. He made sure his hair is combed and he looked his best for Seungkwan. When he's ready, Vernon sat in the room near the dressing room of the competitors. 

"! So handsome!" Hoshi commented when Wonwoo and he saw Vernon. 

"If he enters this year, he probably beat all the freshmen," Wonwoo laughed.

"He has to look this good if he's giving his title to Seungkwan," Hoshi smirked. "By the way, why are you sitting in this room by yourself? Don't you want to see your precious?"

"Of course I do. Where is the dressing room of the freshmen?" Vernon directed that question toward Wonwoo.

"Why are you asking me?"

"Because your bae is also in the competition."

Wonwoo almost launched himself at Vernon, but Hoshi stopped him while laughing. "Hey, hey, hey, calm down. If you beat him up, his fan club will castrate you."

"I don't care."

"The room next to us is where the freshmen are," Hoshi answered Vernon's question. "Your Seungkwan look super cute. He looks perfect for being your soon-to-be wife."

"I'll go see him," Vernon hopped off his seat. "Wanna come with me too, Wonwoo?"

"Damn it, Vernon, why are you asking me?"

"Oh? Just in case, we see your soon-to-be husband."

"Stop talking about Mingyu, I'm annoyed."

The three of them sneaked their way to the freshmen's dressing room. Some of the girls came and asked Vernon to take a picture with them. Vernon allowed them to but he searched around his Seungkwan and found the freshman. They made eye-contact and Seungkwan immediately walked over.

"Vernon hyung, what are you doing here?" Seungkwan asked in the sweetest voice.

"I came to see you," Vernon answered. 

"Yo, Wonwoo, take a picture for me," Vernon pushed his phone onto Wonwoo's hand without even looking at his friend. Seungkwan got the idea and gave Hoshi his phone to take the picture as well.

They stood close together as Wonwoo and Hoshi take their picture. Seungkwan was nervous before for the contest but now, he's nervous because Vernon is standing so close him. They're basically touching side to side. On the other hand, Vernon felt a little awkward because he doesn't know where to put his hand. He was planning to place it on Seungkwan's shoulder but he doesn't know if he's allowed to. In the end, they just smile into the two cameras with Seungkwan standing slightly in front of Vernon. Wonwoo and Hoshi gave the phones back to their respective owner after the mini photoshoot.

"Vernon, can I talk to you in private?" Seungkwan awkwardly walked out of the room, into an empty hallway. Vernon followed him after receiving suggestive smirk from Wonwoo and Hoshi. The older male just rolled his eyes and brushed it off.

"Is something wrong?" Vernon immediately asked after he was sure they're alone.

"I'm excited and nervous at the same time."

"You'll be ok," The taller wiped away the nervous sweat that's slowly forming on Seungkwan' forehead.

"If I don't win, I would embarrass my whole department."

"Don't think like that. Just worry about your performance and do your best. You'll lose your mind onstage if you overthink it."

"Did you lose your mind last year?"

"Not really," Vernon shrugged. It made Seungkwan hate his guts for a split second and the taller male laughed. 

"Well, I'm sure I'll mess up," The freshman pouted.

"How about this? No matter how badly you mess up, your performance will be my favorite. For that reason, mess up as much as you want because my approval is enough, right?"

"You're cool..."

"That's random but thanks for the compliment.

 But complimenting me like that, do you want something in return?" Vernon has a flirtatious tone embedded in his words. 

"No... I don't... You're just cool."

"Well, you don't want it but I'm gonna give it to you anyway," The sophomore held onto the freshman's shoulders. He leaned in closer and kissed Seungkwan on the cheek.

"Vernon," The freshman shyly hit the said boy's chest. 

"Sweet cheek... Smell nice..."

"That's my cologne."

"If you want to get me back in the same way, I wouldn't mind..."

While his ears burning red, Seungkwan turned away from the taller boy to hide his embarrassing face. Vernon found this endearing and step closer just to be closer to his target of affection. He held himself back because he doesn't want to mess up the perfect person in front of him before the contest. Seungkwan may not think so but to Vernon, a perfect person is him.

"You're reserved for me only now and vice versa. If anyone comes on to you, they will have to go through my fist."

"So violent... What kind of doctor are you? Hurting people..."

"Well, they mess with my heart in the first place."

Seungkwan looked back at Vernon in a smiley teasing face. His cheeks still flushed from all the attention Vernon is giving him. "Ew, you are really cheesy today."

"If a kiss got you this fluster, I wonder when we..."

"Vernon!"

"If you're hitting me, it must mean you are feeling better," Vernon slyly held onto Seungkwan's hand. "I help."

"Yeah right, I'm just in a bad mood now," Seungkwan lied. The smile on his face gave it away as Vernon babied him with hugs and light kisses. 

"I'll see you during the competition, ok?"

"Ok..." The freshman pouted.

"What's wrong?"

"Can we stay together until the contest start?"

"I have duties to fulfill. Besides, if I stay with you, people will say I play favoritism, which I wouldn't deny because I definitely do. That would make it awkward if I end up giving you the sash later."

The two winners of the competition will be given the ceremonial sash by the previous winners. In this case, Vernon and Sonne would be giving the sashes away. 

"What if I don't want the sash?"

"...Then... What do you want?"

Seungkwan contemplated for a moment before pointing at Vernon's heart. "I want this person and his heart. I want him to stay by my side forever. Is that ok?"

This action caused Vernon to smile a little wider. He held onto Seungkwan's slender finger. "I told you already, didn't I? That I'll only look at you and no one else. Even if we are not together, I will think of you."

"Let that be true."

Just so y'all know, I make very inhuman noise as I write the last scene. No matter if it's cheesy, I love sweet scene like this. I live for it. The contest is being hyped up enough now so who is excited about it? Who will win? Comment below your guess.
