Seungkwan quickly covers his eyes as he clicks the mouse pad on his laptop. The university that he wanted to attend finally replies to his application. Seungkwan's heart is pounding out of his ribcage as he peeks through his middle and ring finger. 

Congratulation! You've been admitted to be a student of the Department of Biology. 

"Mingyu! Look look look! I got in, I got in," Seungkwan pulls his best friend, Mingyu, into a headlock to look at his laptop. The other boy almost choked on his smoothies. "Although we are not in the same major, we're at least in the same school."

"OK!" Mingyu manages to get out of the death grip. He massages his sore neck before replying further. "I know that. Why so excited? I don't think it's because of me that you're so happy. It's all about him."

Seungkwan shyly smiles and bit the inner part of his upper lip. Mingyu hits the jackpot. 

"How long haven't you guys met each other?" Mingyu asks curiously. The taller male loses count after a while. 

"More than a year," The shorter boy answers. 

Mingyu genuinely feels happy for his childhood friend. "You're gonna get to see him soon. Cheer up."

"Whatever," Seungkwan replied shyly.

"Happy?" Mingyu teased the shorter boy as he plays with the straw in his neon green drink. 

"Not at all," The shorter male lied.

"Really?" The tan boy laughs mockingly as he sees a smile growing in the corner of Seungkwan's lips.

"Yes, you idiot, I'm happy enough to fly to the moon and back," Seungkwan gave in. " With the IQ like mine, it's hard to get into this university. However, it's all because I want to see him. Can you believe I actually made it? I'm so freaking awesome."

"Him? Though he's never seen you," Mingyu brought Seungkwan back to reality. It dampens the mood a bit as Seungkwan remember some not-so-pleasant memories. "Ok, maybe he won't ignore you this time with his blind eyes. How long have you been into him? Long enough for me to get 12 girlfriends? Sometimes, I think that you're unable to love anyone else."

Seungkwan knew what Mingyu's saying is true. Out of his high school life, he had only feel attracted to one person and one person only. Even after that person graduated, Seungkwan couldn't find himself liking someone else. It's kinda sad that he's put a lot of effort into this one-sided relationship. 

"If that's going to happen, I hope you can still succeed with this love, so I wanna help you out, Seungkwan," Mingyu brightens the mood again. The other boy only looks at him with an are-you-serious face "I mean it! What are you thinking?"

This is the story of Boo Seungkwan. Most people just called him Seungkwan. His free and dreamy college life is about to begin. He's really excited, even in the car that's driving him to the dorm. However, nothing can be compared to the excitement he felt to meet the person he has liked ever since he can remember. Choi Hansol, or to his friend, Vernon. Unknown to him at the moment, the target of his affection is on the basketball court where the car just drove past. 

"Vernon!!! Have you seen him? I'm drooling over his hotness," A bunch of girls giggled as they watch in groups. Vernon and his buddies are playing basketball. "I really like him. Vernon! Really? Do you see him?"

As the car drove past, Vernon manages to make a basket and high-fived his friend, Wonwoo. As another game started, Vernon accidentally knocks over someone from the other team. He stopped playing to help the guy get back up. 

"OMG! He's so manly! I can't handle this!! Gosh, that's Vernon. How can someone be that hot? Ahhh..."

Vernon ignored the compliments as he jogged over to the benches where he kept his water bottle and towel. As he drinks from the bottle, Vernon stares out past the court to see a beige car drove past. His eyes followed it until the car disappear and he didn't give it a second thought. 

"I can take this by myself," Seungkwan tries to take the boxes from his father's workers. "You guys can go home, I can do it."

"Are you sure, Master Seungkwan?" One of them seems worried.

"I'll be fine, thank you," Seungkwan balanced the two boxes, labeled MANGA, in his arm. 

Before they leave, the workers reminded Seungkwan to call his father to make sure he settled in nicely. Seungkwan loves his parents to death but they can be a little overprotective. As the car drove away, someone walks toward the apartment complex Seungkwan will be staying in. That someone is none other than Vernon, with a basketball under his arm and the water bottle in the other hand. A red towel was over the shoulder, which stood out due to the black t-shirt and black basketball shorts. Seungkwan expected to see Vernon at some point of his college life but never this early. The older male still looks as handsome as he'd remembered.

Gosh... Stop staring you idiot, Seungkwan mentally yells at himself and turn around. This reminds him of the time he attends one of Vernon's basketball game in high school. 

The last point was scored as the referee blew the whistle. Girls start to scream as they run across the court toward Vernon, who picked up the basketball. He soon finds himself surrounded by screaming females. However, Vernon managed to escape by ducking out of the crowd but he saw someone standing in front of him when he looked up. A boy with big nerdy glasses named Seungkwan. The boy held a green water bottle in hand but didn't give it to Vernon, who just walked past him. 

Yep. He's Vernon. My only focus. Seungkwan mentally sighs again. 

"Hmmm... It must feel so good to have servants."

Seungkwan turns around to follow the voice. Vernon just stood there, refilling his water bottle at the fountain. "Are you talking to me?"

"Is there anyone else here?" Vernon replies bluntly. He put the cap of his water bottle back on and walked toward the short freshman. Seungkwan was stunned again and he has no idea what to do. "From the first impression, you must be the second generation of the rich. Don't say I didn't warn you. You'd better find another place to live. This ain't the palace you're accustomed to at home."

"It's none of your business," Seungkwan retorted without thinking.

"What you just say to me?" Vernon takes a step forward. 

"I-I said... it's none of your business."

"Short kid! Why can't you listen when I tell you what to do? What's your major? I should've taught you how to be a freshman."

"I'm not short. My height is 174 cm!"

"Because you're shorter than me."

"So what? You think I'm not tall enough to punch your face?"
 

Vernon wasn't impressed. In fact, he took a step forward again. "Then, do it."

Seungkwan couldn't help but stare. Vernon looks even more handsome up close. Of course, he can't do harm to the pretty face so he goes with the less prideful plan. "I won't. Go away!"

"What the hell?" Vernon said under his breath.

Seungkwan pushes the taller male away and walks through the doors. He manages to get to his room without getting lost. When he set the boxes down, Seungkwan belly flop onto the bed. That's how they met after a year later. Even though it was irritating to him, Seungkwan couldn't help but smile about the fact that he gets to see Vernon already. However, Seungkwan finally registers what he had said to Vernon. Damn it, I'm gonna end up alone...

"You know how I am," Seungkwan rants to Mingyu. "As soon as I meet him, I blank out. I can't help but talk back to him."

The two childhood friends are drinking coffee at the local cafe near the university. Well, Mingyu is drinking coffee while Seungkwan had some really fruity drink. They had been here for ten minutes and Seungkwan talks about his encounter with Vernon for ten minutes. 

"But which planet is he from?" Seungkwan smiles dreamingly. "How can he be so handsome even if he's all sweaty? There was one time that he was late for school. He ran out of breath but still looked gorgeous. I'm so used to putting him in my life... I even think I'm really close to him. Even though we haven't talked to each other. But ever time I see him I... "

Mingyu can only smile. He's happy Seungkwan found his target of affection but he couldn't help but tease the poor guy. "Screw up?"

"Damn it, why did I do that?" Seungkwan slams his head on the metal table.

"It's totally fine," Mingyu reassured his childhood friend. 

"Why?"

"It's perfectly fine because now, he remembers you," The taller male laughs. "Let me say it's just the beginning. You can't behave like an actress in a soap opera. It's impossible for you to say, 'Honey, I love you!' or 'Honey, I miss you so much!'. You'll never say that. If you have to say it, it's gonna take you 3 or 4 days to falter. Am I right?" 

"I..."

"From how you guys reacted to each other, if you stayed at my house, you won't have many opportunities to talk to him," Mingyu teased. "Maybe he hasn't found out about your cuteness. But believe me, one day he will. Because you are good enough, got it?"

"Where do you get that confidence from?" Sengkwan asks seriously.

Mingyu switch their drinks so he could have a taste as Seungwan just looks dazed. He imagines what it's like to say sweet things to Vernon. To have him here to talk to. "Hey, you tall freak. How's your day?"

"Who are you talking to?" Mingyu asks his friend in a worried tone. 

That pulls the shorter boy out of his dreamland and back to the sad reality. "Nothing... Hahaha, nothing. I'm just thought of something else."

"Something else?" The tan male shakes his head in disbelief. "I' worried about you. Don't read too many weird mangas at night, you freak. Maybe that's why you're like this."

Mingyu's words didn't stick in Seungkwan's brain because the shorter boy read weird mangas that night until he fell asleep.

The next day was orientation day. The freshman class was big so it was split into two days. Mingyu and Seungkwan were put in a different date. Seungkwan got the earlier orientation. Being the shy kid he is, Seungkwan was lucky that some people in his department were nice enough to talk with him and make him feel comfortable until the senior that's running the orientation arrived.

"Hello, freshman," It's a short thin female student with round glasses and hairs that go down to her shoulder. She wore a black blouse that loosely hangs on her body and a white skirt. "I'm sorry we have to do this on the basketball court but at least, the sky doesn't look like it's gonna rain. We have important business to go over. The first of which is to find someone to represent your departments."

Whisper start to go around. The university that Seungkwan attending has a special tradition of having someone representing their respective department in every class. A male and female freshman are picked every year to be the faces of their department in their class. 

"We have some issues to solve but let's put it in an easier way this time," The leader explains. "I want everyone to recommend a male and female representative. We'll give you ten minutes to decided among each other. No pressure now. If we can't choose one then we can't go home."

The students start chatting and looking around. Usually, the prettiest and most handsome people get picked so Seungkwan sits back and relaxed. He was a hundred percent sure he wasn't gonna get picked until someone pulls his sleeves.

"Hey, I recommend Seungkwan," The boy Seungkwan chatted with earlier yells out. 

"Hmm... yeah," A girl in his department agrees. "He's perfect to do this. If we choose him, we'll definitely win for sure. what do you guys think?"

A chorus of "yes" was spread around. However, Seungkwan quickly decline. "No way, I can't."

"You're too modest," Another girl slaps his shoulder. "You're good looking and you're easy on the eyes. Who doesn't like that, especially with that white complexion? You can't say no."

The other department seems to already make their decision when the orientation leader suddenly squeals out. "Kids! We have guest now."

Everyone turned in the direction of the entrance. Vernon and his friends walked in the court but they stopped halfway there. However, before they can escape, the leader called them over. Not wanting to be rude, Vernon bites the bullet and walks over. Every freshman girls, even some boys, squeal and make weird noises. Seungkwan just sat there.

"What do you want?" Vernon asks quietly over the screaming noises.

"Be nice, let the freshman enjoy the view," The orientation leader whispers back. "This is Vernon from the Department of Medicine. He's a sophomore and he was voted as the most handsome male in our university last year."

This caused an eruption of girly screaming from the crowd. Seungkwan almost had to cover his ears to protect it. Vernon looked just as uncomfortable as Seungkwan. It's like he's a juggling monkey at the circus. 

"Can I go now?" Vernon asks, slowly losing his patience.

"At least say something nice to them," The leader replies.

"I don't want to."

"Just do it, you handsome bastard."

Vernon sighed in annoyance and looked at the crowd of smiling freshmen. "Study hard."

Two simple words caused an emotion explosion in the crowd. Vernon finally left as the leader tries to calm down the freshmen. Seungkwan just watches Vernon left quietly to himself. 

"Alright calm down calm down, have you kids choose a representative yet?" She asked the crowd. "Come on down if you do."

Everyone started to push Seungkwan toward the front. He finally gave up and just walk up there. The whole Department of Biology starts clapping.

"Alright, we'll start the selection now," The orientation leader smiles. "Each freshman will answer a question. Whoever answers it best will be their department representative. The question is..."

So how was the first chapter? Don't we all wish we have a friend like Mingyu? I freaking love his character. Don't get me wrong I love him as well but Seungkwan is always bae. Speaking of which, this story is Verkwan centric. I didn't clarify that in the foreword but Meanie and Soonseok will definitely be in here as well. You'll have a snippet of it in this chapter.
