Description
Seoyoung was unwanted by her parents as a child and thus, she was abandoned in an orphanage. This did not go unnoticed by her brother, Kibum. But in an orphanage, children are meant to be adopted, and so Seoyoung eventually was. Kibum promises to find her again in the future, but how can he find her when she's in America and he's in Korea?
Foreword
Prologue ;
"Seoyoung, a young, kind couple has come to take you home!" Miss Choi peeked her head into the small playroom where two kids, a 9 year-old boy and a 7 year-old girl, were playing.
The little girl had brownish-red hair and large hazelnut eyes. She looked at Miss Choi in shock, and then turned to the boy. Her eyes pleaded to the boy. The boy had poofy hair swept to one side, and sharp brown eyes. He stood up and positioned himself in front of the Seoyoung. "I, the Almighty Key, shall meet these parents and judge for myself just how worthy they are!" he declared.
Miss Choi chuckled and led him out of the small room, leaving Seoyoung behind. Seoyoung scrambled to her feet and hurried to catch up to Key. She tripped on the hem of her dress in the process, but she got right back up and went to find Key and Miss Choi. "Not to be rude or anything, but isn't this a male," a gentle, feminine voice laughed.
"I am the Almighty Key! I have come to verify how good Seoyoung's foster parents will be! Being the loving oppa I am, I can't let her fall into the hands of evil people!" Seoyoung laughed quietly at Key's introduction.
She really loved Key. The thought of being adopted made her a little sad. She would hate to leave Key and never see him again. He had always been there for her, even before she got abandoned at the orphanage. She started thinking about all the times she played with Key when their parents were away at work.
"... And she likes to read, she likes to dance, her favorite food is anything noodles, she doesn't have a favorite color, she likes them all," Key named as many things he could think of about his beloved sister.
Seoyoung giggled and ended up getting caught outside the door. "Ah, here she is!" Miss Choi held her hand out for Seoyoung who hesitantly took the hand and allowed herself to be lead to where the couple was.
The man had an arm around the woman, holding her close. He wore large, black-framed glasses and had small, thin eyes. He smiled warmly at Seoyoung who looked away shyly. The woman had light make-up on over her almond-shaped eyes and thin, pink lips. 'They both look nice...' Seoyoung thought to herself.
Key walked over to Seoyoung and smiled. Behind the smile, she could see sadness. "They're a good couple," Key decided, and lightly pushed Seoyoung toward the couple.
The woman reached out towards Seoyoung and introduced herself as Han Taera and the man as Park Yongjae. "We promise to take care of you and love you like our own daughter, do you believe me?"
Seoyoung looked between Taera's outstretched hand and Key's struggling grin. She took a good look at the Taera, searching for any fakeness, and did the same for the Yongjae. She sensed nothing and finally decided.
Seoyoung hesitantly took Taera's hand and spoke in a sweet, light voice, "Okay."
Yongjae released his arm around Taera when Taera opened up her arms for Seoyoung. Seoyoung walked into her arms and accepted the embrace, "Can I call you Umma and Appa?"
"Of course!" Taera and Yongjae chorused.
Seoyoung turned around and looked at Key. Taera put a hand on Seoyoung's shoulder and urged her forward, "We can come pick you up another day. For now you can pack up and spend some time with your oppa who loves you a lot. "
Seoyoung nodded and approached Key who was looking at the ground, trying to wipe away his tears before Seoyoung could notice. He felt he needed to be the strong one in this situation so Seoyoung could go to her new parents without being pulled back by him. Key looked up with a red nose, sniffled, and smiled, "Come on, let's go play."
Key turned to the couple and bowed, "We only need a day. Take her tomorrow before I change my mind!"
"Understood, Almighty Key!" Yongjae laughed.

Since that day, Key and Seoyoung tried to keep in touch as much as they could. They would meet up at the playground and just played with each other for hours, just to sit on the swings and talk for another few hours.
This all stopped when Key's parents found out. They wanted nothing to do with their accident child, Seoyoung. Key's parents didn't want another child; Seoyoung just happened. They threw her into an orphanage the second they could. Key, being 5, and Seoyoung 3, always snuck away to play with Seoyoung. He saw Seoyoung as the cute little sister he's always wanted and would take care of.
Unfortunately for him, after his parents found out about his play dates with Seoyoung and forbade him to go out without telling them, Seoyoung seemed to just disappear. He still had Taera and Yongjae's phone numbers, but no phone.
Seoyoung moved to America shortly after her play dates with Key stopped. She understood it was because of the parents that abandoned her.
The older Seoyoung got, the busier her new parents were. They were busy to the point where they decided to send her to America, since most of their business trips were in America, and left her with a nanny. By then, Seoyoung was 11 and entering 6th grade.

Seoyoung loved her new family. Taera and Yongjae were true to their word and treated her like their very own daughter. The nanny they hired treated her the same - with love - unlike her birth parents. They often "forgot" about her and she had to rely on Key to sneak some food for her and take care of her. Key got help from their neighbor when it came to taking care of Seoyoung's baby needs.
When Seoyoung moved to America, she was excited. The plane ride was interesting to her, since it was her first plane ride ever, and she was always curious about America. Her Umma and Appa told her many stories about America.
At the same time, she was a little afraid. Taera and Yongjae had taught her English alongside Korean as she grew up, but she never really got to practice it. In school, her English was the top of the class, but the English taught was simpler than what she learned from Taera and Yongjae. Also, she was going to be new and alone in the new school. What if no one accepted her?
Luckily for her, Seoyoung was accepted by a group of people, guy and girl, who had the same few interests as her. Some who were Korean in the group helped her fit in with the rest by translating and helping her around.

Seoyoung has asked Umma and Appa about Key, but every time she asked, they would look at each sadly then tell her, "We don't know, he hasn't been able to contact us."
The truth was, after Key had earned enough for a phone, the first thing he did was call Taera and Yongjae. He asked them to keep him updated with Seoyoung, but not to tell her anything.
Key always dreamed of becoming an idol. On their last play date, Key vowed that he would become a successful idol, find Seoyoung and take care of her like he used to. He didn't want to see her before that. Seoyoung didn't believe him at first, but that all changed when her friends showed her a CD by his band, SHINee. Seoyoung was afraid of what her friends would do and say if she said Key was her brother, so she kept it a secret to herself.
Seoyoung patiently waited the day Key would find her.
