Things You Didn’t Say.

It was almost midnight and Jaebum wasn’t home yet. Youngjae, who was worried about his husband, couldn’t sleep. Instead, he was lying on the living room floor and blankly staring at the TV, not paying attention to the cartoon streaming one after another.

It was half past three in the morning when Jaebum finally graced the huge and empty apartment with his presence.

“Took you long enough to come home” Youngjae muttered, helping Jaebum take off his suit jacket.

“Couldn’t you at least call and tell me that you were going to be late? I could’ve been peacefully sleeping by now if you’ve just called and talked to me” Youngjae said, looking at Jaebum, who looked equally as tired as Youngjae was.

“Sorry” Jaebum mumbled and just went to the bathroom to take a shower after a long day.

Youngjae sighed and went to his bedroom to get some sleep, relieved that Jaebum was home and nothing was wrong.

It was about a week later when Jaebum was late to his usual weekly date with Youngjae. Youngjae was alone all suited up in a fancy restaurant, looking like an idiot. Youngjae had been sitting like that for about two hours, which were enough time to finish 2 and a half bottles of expensive champagne. Youngjae’s intentions to drink and get trashed were of course lead by Jaebum’s amazing ability to mess up whatever plans Youngjae and he made.

“Sir, not to be rude, but you’ve sitting here for 2 hours and we have a reservation made at your table in about 30 minutes, so can you, if it’s possible, get up?” the manager informed the drunken mess that was Youngjae, with eyes filled with pity.

“Sure, why not” Youngjae sloppily muttered, trying his best to get up from his seat without any accidents.

After wasting his month’s salary for 3 bottles of champagne that Youngjae consumed all by himself, Youngjae was headed to his apartment, where Jaebum was nowhere to be seen, obviously.

“Stupid idiot” Youngjae mumbled, not thinking clearly, and dialed Jaebum’s number.

“Even his phone number is stupid” Youngjae muttered while the phone was ringing.

“Youngjae, I’m not coming today, stop calling, I’m in the middle of an important meeting” Jaebum hissed and then immediately hung up, not even letting Youngjae say ‘I love you’ and ‘eat enough’.

“It’s just me and you, then, TV buddy” Youngjae said, turning on the TV and falling down on the comfortable sofa.

It was a few months of coming home late or going on ‘business trips’ for a few days later when Youngjae accidently found a huge lipstick stain on one of Jaebum’s white blouses. It was either a lipstick stain or blood. And to be honest Youngjae wouldn’t have even found the stain or blood or whatever red thing on Jaebum’s blouse if he hadn’t one day decided to become a saint and wash his and Jaebum’s dirty clothes instead of leaving to his mom or the dry cleaning lady to clean it all up.

“What the hell is this” Youngjae said out of loud pure out of shock. But it can’t be right. It probably was an accident or a prank since Jaebum was, you know, married to Youngjae and gay. Jaebum was never interested in other people, let alone girls. Youngjae only once has seen Jaebum say that ‘Freddie Mercury had the most attractive face with an incredible voice’. Other than that, Youngjae has never even seen Jaebum check out other people, not even once.

“It was probably a prank or something by his colleagues” Youngjae decided, not thinking hard about the stain and putting it in the washing machine.

The several of the same exact stains were found on Jaebum’s neck one day after he came home all exhausted and pained and went to bed without taking a shower. Youngjae was of course surprised and at some point, he wanted to wake Jaebum up from his deep sleep that he seemed to be enjoying a lot, and ask him about the possibly lipstick stains.

“Youngjae, maybe it is blood. You don’t know for sure if it’s actually lipstick. Have you even ever seen a lipstick stain?” Youngjae questioned himself, trying to protect his loving and faithful husband from his own mind.

“And honestly why would a married gay man even have a lipstick stain on his neck? Even if it is a lipstick stain, I’m pretty sure Youngjae, he didn’t willingly get it. Maybe it was a dare” Youngjae tried not to think much of it.

“Hey, I don’t think I can come home as early as I’m used to for the next few months. I have a lot of work” Jaebum stated as he was getting ready the next morning.

“It’s fine, it’s not like you’ve been coming home early lately, I’m kind of used to it” Youngjae admitted, hoping for some type of compassion and comfort from Jaebum’s side.

“Okay then” and with that Jaebum was off to his important and great job, leaving Youngjae disappointed and a bit mad.

“You didn’t even say ‘I love you’ like you always do” Youngjae muttered.
