Things You Said With Too Many Miles Between Us.

Youngjae ran to the airport, panting from running too much. Although Youngjae was almost dying from being breathless and running way too much, he still had to carry on running as if his life depended on it. Youngjae’s life did depend on it, sort of.

Jaebum was flying off to his hometown along with his father to his hometown for the funeral of his mother. And Youngjae was staying in Seoul, alone in their huge apartment because the school year hasn’t ended yet and he still had classes to attend. But Youngjae really wanted to go with his husband and father in law to say his last goodbyes to his sweet mother in law who was always nothing but kind and loving towards Youngjae, just as if she was Youngjae’s real mom. Thanks to Jaebum’s amazing parents Youngjae never once felt lonely even though he was alone in the huge capital of South Korea. Plus, going to Jaebum’s hometown meant going back to the house Youngjae’s stern husband grew up in, learnt how to walk and talk in.

Frankly, Youngjae was personally ready to drop everything and take a week or so off his studies and tag along with Jaebum and his dad. But Jaebum didn’t want Youngjae sacrificing his diploma just for a small funeral.

“But hyung this is not just a funeral. It’s for your mom and to be honest, my mom, as well” Youngjae said, trying his best to convince Jaebum to take Youngjae with him.

“Youngjae, you need that diploma and bachelor’s degree” Jaebum answered, packing his luggage.

“But you said you’d be staying there at least for a month. How am I supposed to cope with being without you for a whole month?” Youngjae complained but still helped Jaebum fold the shirts that Jaebum was going to take with him on his trip.

“We can video chat everyday” Jaebum reasoned.

“But I can’t give you a hug through a dumb computer screen” Youngjae pouted still neatly folding the clean shirts.

“It’s okay; I’ll be back before you know it”.

Youngjae had overslept this morning and Jaebum didn’t bother to wake him up so Youngjae didn’t even go to the airport with him to kiss him one last time, which was why he was about to break his legs from running too much and too fast through the huge airport, trying to get to his husband before the plane takes off.

“Jaebum hyung where the hell are you” Youngjae muttered, quickly scanning the big black digital board with all the planes’ information on it to find which gate Jaebum was flying away from.

“Jaebum hyung?” Youngjae saw a familiar black jacket and very familiar broad shoulders.

“Hyung” Youngjae shouted.

Jaebum’s surprised face greeted the almost dying husband who came to wish his husband a safe flight.

“Hyung, why didn’t you wake me up this morning? I would’ve at least made you breakfast” Youngjae spoke between his breath, still trying to catch his breath.

“Are you still calling Jaebum hyung? Even after marrying each other” Jaebum’s dad laughed looking at his son in law who was about to pass out.

“It became a habit and I couldn’t stop calling him hyung so I kind of just stopped trying” Youngjae smiled.

As it turned out Youngjae had caught Jaebum and his dad just minutes before they were going to board the plane.

“Hyung wait, let me hug you one last time” Youngjae said, opening his arms for Jaebum to hug.

“It’s not like I’m going to war or anything. You don’t need to be so dramatic” Jaebum replied, hugging his husband halfheartedly because of his embarrassment.

“Hug him properly! You won’t see each other in a few months!” Jaebum’s dad butted in, making the two’s embarrassed hug tighter and last longer than it should’ve lasted.

“Okay, goodbye hyung! Tell mom I loved her before you say goodbye!” Youngjae said, giving Jaebum a small quick peck on his cheeks before Jaebum flew away.

Jaebum had been gone for about 7 weeks now and Youngjae missed him more than he could ever imagine missing someone. Jaebum and Youngjae have definitely been away from each other longer than this but for some reason both of them felt like they haven’t held each other in their arms for about ten thousand years.

“I really miss you hyung” Youngjae said through the phone. He didn’t want to video chat because Youngjae felt like it would make him miss Jaebum more and he would probably cry because he missed his husband too much.

“I miss you too” Jaebum sadly replied.

“I really wish I was with you” Youngjae confessed, almost tearing up.

“Me too” Jaebum replied.

“I love you, Youngjae” Jaebum confessed in the middle of their conversation after a small silence on both of their ends.
