Hoseok was 4 years old when his parents brought him to the neighbours house for a birthday party. He doesn't remember much of the event, only that many pictures were taken and that he was forced by his parents to pose with the birthday kid who was younger. However he could remember the boxy grin and how he couldn't stop smiling when the kid keeps coming and clinging onto him. Staring at that face, he decided on that day, as an early New Year's resolution, that he will take care of this boy.

Hoseok was 10 when his parents announced that they were moving. His sister managed to enter a prestigious school in other province, so they had to move to make things easier for her and the family. But not him. The moment he heard the news, he ran out of the house and went to the Kims, knocking on the door. When Taehyung opened the door, he hugged the boy and sobbed openly into his shoulders. Taehyung, unable to hold it in, cried as well seeing his hyung cried despite not knowing what was going on. After he recounted everything, the two of them cried even more. It was a shock to Mrs Kim to see the two boys cry whereas Mrs Jung just stare at them in sympathy.

Two weeks later, the reality of Hoseok leaving dawned again and Taehyung couldn't release his grip on his hyung. He kept shouting no, and crying. Hoseok tried to convince him that they will stay in touch no matter what happened but Taehyung shook his head vigorously. He reasoned that Hoseok won't be able to keep his promise since he will have new friends and forget him. Hoseok softly smiled and digged his pocket for his flip phone, handing it to Taehyung.

"I'll call you every day if you want me to," Hoseok told him. Taehyung stared at him through tear-streaken eyes and hugged the boy tightly.

Hoseok never broke his promise.

Hoseok was 12 when he realised that Taehyung was contacting him lesser and lesser. As much as he should be glad that Taehyung was finally moving on, he couldn't help but feel hurt when all this while Taehyung was the one worrying about them drifting apart
