The brunette heaved a defeated sigh as he sunk into the plaid swivel chair. The annual holiday hype had settled in the office. Bright lights decorated the rows of cubicles, a small Christmas tree stood proudly next to the coffee station, and sparkly snowflakes were plastered on the usually blank walls. Everyone was in a hearty mood since they all looked forward to spending the holidays with family and friends.

Then there was Woohyun. The latter was sitting in a slump inside his cubicle while everyone else scurried out of the office. He cursed himself for being such an idiot. His boss refused to accept the report he had submitted and ordered him to rewrite it. That was exactly how the brunette found himself alone at the office the night before Christmas Eve.

Woohyun seriously hated life as the clock struck 9 p.m. His neck hurt and his vision was blurring from staring at the computer all day. He regretted ever resigning from his last job. His current office was further away from his friends and family. The only reason why he decided to apply was because of the good wage. He had lived with his boyfriend for a year until the latter dumped him and kicked him out of the house two months ago. Without a place to live, he barely survived in the rundown apartment he rented. It was the most he could afford. Honestly, Woohyun felt like he had the worst luck ever.

All was quiet except the clacking sounds of a keyboard as the brunette rushed to finish his report. He took a sip of coffee and cringed at how much it had cooled down. Woohyun nibbled on his bottom lip gently as he pondered over a decent way to end his paper. He opted to express his opinion on the topic at hand.

“Yes!” Woohyun jumped up from his chair with a newfound source of energy. Despite the flaws of his new living quarters, he was more than excited to sink into his comfy mattress and relax after a week of non-stop work

The brunette did an embarrassing victory dance while packing up his briefcase.

“Here I come, my sweet bed,” he sang, practically skipping towards the elevator.

Of course, Nam Woohyun’s bad luck never seems to run out. A loud cracking noise disrupted his short-lived enthusiasm. As three of the ceiling tiles above him gave away, the brunette’s shrill (girly) scream could be heard. A mixture of grunts, thumps, and oomphs resonated through the empty office.

Woohyun rubbed the dust and debris off his face and prepared to yell at the person who almost suffocated him to death. That is, until he came to face with a literal hamster trapped in human form. The other man’s face was filled with worry. His small, brown eyes were thin yet overflowing with emotions.

“I am so sorry! Are you okay?” Woohyun’s eyes drifted down to the puffy pink lips that moved with each word.

He couldn’t deny that the man before him was stunning. The brunette opened and closed his mouth like a fish. Being the socially awkward idiot he was, Woohyun didn’t know what to say to the beautiful creature.

“Oh my goodness, you’re bleeding!” the smaller of the two men squeaked. He touched Woohyun’s forehead gently. The latter felt his heart tingle when he felt the soft fingertips running across his skin. “Come, I think I have a band aid in my bag.”

The man that fell through the ceiling helped Woohyun over to an office chair. All the time, the injured man’s heartbeat so fast it seemed as if it was going to burst out of his chest.

“Seriously,” the smaller man muttered as he shuffled through his briefcase, “I kept telling the security that the floor was unstable but they wouldn’t listen. Look what happened now! I ought to sue them for this.”

Woohyun was at a complete loss for words. He never believed in love at first sight but the man’s gentleness unleashed uncontrollable butterflies in his stomach.

“I could have crushed you to death. It is all thanks to you...” the hamster suddenly glanced up at him sheepishly. “Oh gee, where have my manners gone? My name is Kim Sunggyu, I work in the finance department. What might your name be?” he inquired.

The brunette studied Sunggyu silently for a moment. He liked the way his chocolate-brown hair was slightly curled and how his lips pouted naturally. Clearing his throat, his voice finally began to cooperate with his brain again. “Woohyun. Nam Woohyun,” he mumbled softly.

The smile that lit up Sunggyu’s face was staggering. “Well, Woohyun-ssi, I owe my life to you,” the other brunette grinned. “If you weren’t there to break my fall, I would have broken a few bones for sure.”

Woohyun nodded in reply. His face felt as if it was going to burst into flames as Sunggyu secure it with the palm of his hand. A band aid was pressed onto the taller man’s forehead. It was bright blue with cartoon images of little ducks.

“Thank you,” the brunette said awkwardly, brushing the dishevelled bangs out of his eyes. His mind was whirling so much that he barely registered the words flowing out of Sunggyu’s perfect little mouth.

As expected, Woohyun always finds a way to make himself seem like a moron.

“Did you fall from heaven?” he bursted out. “Because you look like an angel.”

There was a stuffy silence as Woohyun finally realized what he had just said. Sunggyu’s small eyes blinked quickly, a look of surprise showing on his proportioned face. The cheesy pickup line caught the two flustered men completely off guard.

Woohyun suddenly seemed fascinated with the white-tiled floor. He mentally cursed himself for being such a fool. A small noise escaped Sunggyu’s lips. The younger of the two looked up warily, expecting the other man to look at him in disgust. Instead, he was met with a small smirk.

“Nam Woohyun-ssi, are you trying to flirt with me?” the hamster questioned, folding his arms across his chest.

The brunette jolted up from his seat. “No!” he paused for a second when seeing the other’s raised eyebrows. “Yes, I mean, no I didn’t mean to but yes.” His face heated up again as he stumbled over his own words.

Sunggyu’s entire face seemed to lighten up as he burst into laughter. “Okay,” he said. The hamster suddenly stood still and closed his eyes. Woohyun stared down at the shorter male, confused as to what he was doing.

The latter’s eyes opened again. An amused look adorned his small features. The brunette couldn’t help but fall in love with how squishy Sunggyu’s cheeks were. “C’mon Woohyun-ssi. Don’t tell me you don’t know what to do,” he said. A small smile danced on his lips as he gestured upwards with his hand. Woohyun almost choked on air when he looked up. All thanks to his spirited coworkers, the two men were standing under a mistletoe. What a coincidence.

The taller male’s eyes drifted back to Sunggyu again. He inspected the closed yet twitching monolids. He took notice of the small beauty mark under his well-shaped ear. Woohyun enjoyed every part of the hamster-like man. Leaning downward slowly, he felt his own lips quivering slightly. In a moment, his lips almost melted against Sunggyu’s soft ones. It was simple, short, and tasted like a mixture of strawberries and sweet coffee. Woohyun still enjoyed every part of it.

Sunggyu’s thin eyes blinked open. A teasing smile spread across his lips. Woohyun craved to taste them again but the shorter male ruffled his hair before he could lean forward again.

“Uh-uh, the rules state that it’s only one kiss per mistletoe,” the hamster joked.

“Are you sure about that, Sunggyu-ssi?”

“Absolutely.”

Woohyun sneakily took a hold of one of the smaller man’s soft hands.

“Am I at least allowed to buy you a drink right now?” he asked without breaking eye contact.

Sunggyu tilted his slightly but didn’t retract his hand from the other’s gentle hold. “If we can agree on hot chocolate, I don’t see why not,” he replied with a bright smile.

The brunette broke into a grin but they were interrupted by the gentle ding from the elevator. Two security guards and a construction worker rushed through the open door.

“Are you two injured?” the construction worker asked, scanning the two men who had to let go of each other’s hand.

Sunggyu opened his mouth to complain but Woohyun beat him to it. “We are alright, but please make sure that something as dangerous as this doesn’t happen again. We should be going now.”

The men all bowed apologetically as Woohyun grabbed their bags and led Sunggyu into the company elevator.

“Seriously, you should have scolded them for being so careless,” Sunggyu huffed slightly. “You got hurt because they didn’t do their job.”

Woohyun hummed. He quite enjoyed it when Sunggyu worried for him. It made him feel like a giddy high school student with a big crush. “I am really fine,” the brunette mumbled, shyly intertwining his fingers with the hamster’s again. “Plus, I wouldn’t have met you if you didn’t fall through.”

The shorter male chuckled lightly at Woohyun’s reasoning. “Am I really an angel from heaven?” he asked in a teasing tone.

The younger male shuffled his feet slightly and glanced the other way. “Of course,” he answered softly. “I hope it didn’t hurt too much when you landed though.”

Sunggyu broke into a full laugh. “It didn’t hurt at all because a very cute human protected me from kissing the ground.”

Woohyun was quite thankful when the elevator door opened again. The butterflies in his stomach felt as if they would escape at any given moment. There was a comfortable silence as the taller male led the way out of the office building. Neither of the two men let go of the other’s hand, even when they joined the busy nightlife of Seoul city’s streets.

The duo sipped their hot chocolate on a park bench that displayed a very beautiful view of the night sky. They had spent half an hour talking about themselves and making small talk. It was the little jokes and simple stories that Woohyun enjoyed the most. He learned that Sunggyu was a very pleasant person. Although the hamster had a flare of sarcasm and a straight-forward personality, Woohyun was sure that he also had a kind heart.

“Tomorrow is Christmas Eve already, huh?” Sunggyu sighed after taking a sip of his hot chocolate. “Time really flies.”

Woohyun nodded his head in agreement while warming his hands with the heated cup. “Are you going to spend time with your family?” he asked, glancing over at the hamster.

The latter shook his head. “My family all live in Jeonju. I haven’t spent a proper holiday with them ever since I graduated college.”

“You spend the break all by yourself?” Woohyun asked with a look of astonishment.

Sunggyu shrugged, taking a second to down his hot chocolate. “More or less,” he replied, “I’m used to it already.”

Woohyun nodded and grew silent again. He couldn’t imagine spending the holiday on his own. Although he didn’t spend it with his family, the younger male would always celebrate with his close friends.

“Gyu,” the brunette mumbled his angel’s new nickname. After he received a hum in reply, he continued to speak. “I was thinking.. do you want to spend Christmas with me?” Woohyun suggested in a soft voice. “Not just me, I mean, of course it’s not that I don’t want to spend it with you. I- “ The rambling boy’s words were cut off by a gentle kiss on the lips. Sunggyu grinned at him, his eyes looking like gentle crescents.

“I would love to spend the holiday with you,” he replied, taking ahold of Woohyun’s cold hand. “I’m sorry that I don’t have a present prepared so…”

Sunggyu leaned in for a kiss again, this time he slowly eased his tongue in between the younger’s soft lips. As they each tasted chocolatey sugar on their tongue, Woohyun couldn’t help but smile inwardly. In all honesty, he was beginning to think that he would never get his life back on track. Then Sunggyu fell through that ceiling and Woohyun’s heart skipped a beat. The brunette realized after a while that the other male was good for him. While he was socially awkward, Sunggyu always knew what to say.

As Woohyun stared down at his Gyu’s angelic face, he couldn’t help but think maybe my luck isn’t so bad after all.

Admin’s note: This is such a perfect night story to read ;w; It was really warm and fuzzy and had me laughing and smiling while going through it. I really loved how you got both Sunggyu and Woohyun’s characters on point. Awesome job! ~ KyashiiKun
