Not So Average

I turned my head to the right trying to relieve the small amount of pain I was feeling. Instead of looking down, I looked up, to see if I could stare at some random painting for a moment. When I looked up, my eyes widened.

One of the guys at the table Ha Yeon had been talking about was staring at me. Well, I don't know if he was staring at me, I couldn't make out his eyes since he had sunglasses on. I quickly turned away and looked at Ha Yeon. "Yah, yah!" I kicked her leg with my foot.

"Huh, what?" She was already daydreaming in the time that I looked away.

"That guy at the serial killer table is staring at me! I'm scared!"

"Oh, so now you think they're serial killers?" She looked over. And then turned back confused. "No one's staring at you." She looked over at the table again just to make sure. I was shutting my eyes the whole time, I don't know why I felt scared. "But they are getting a little antsy over there. Look."

I slowly turned my head to look over. Ha Yeon was right. The guy who had been staring at me was hitting all of his friends in the arm and looking around pointing over to our table. "They're pointing over here!!"

"What? No way-" she looked over again and then back at me. "Yeah, they're definitely serial killers." We both sat there for a moment more. I had a knot in my stomach. I guess I was so scared because of what had happened just last night.

"C'mon let's just go." I said, I think I lost my appetite anyways." I really did. I didn't want to go through a situation similar to my previous accident, I had to be more careful around anyone wherever I went. Ha Yeon nodded quickly and stood up to wheel me out of the resturant. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the guy who had been staring at me stood up as soon as Ha Yeon did and I went into panic mode. Stay calm, Soo Min. He can't do anything to  you when you're in public like this. I started breathing heavier. "Let's go!!"

Since the resturant had gotten much busier after we entered, it was hard to get my wheelchair through. "Excuse me, pardon me." Ha Yeon politely said to those we had to get by. I used my peripheral vision to see where the guy was at now and found that all of them had stood up and started htting each other on the arms, walking towards our direction. I panicked.

"Ha Yeon! They're coming!!" I screamed. She tried to book it out of the resturant with very little success. We were right by the door when a mob of girls ran into the resturant with signs, blocking our way out. They looked around frantically before spotting whom I assume they were looking for, and ran towards them, yelling, "THERE THEY ARE!" I didn't know what was happening at the moment so I just told Ha Yeon to get out of the resturant as soon as they weren't blocking the entrance anymore. She nodded and walked out briskly, the cool air hitting both of our faces as we finally reached the outside.

"That was so scary." I put my hand to my heart, which was beating so fast like I had run a marathon or something.

"Psh, what did I tell you? I have instincts." Ha Yeon said, tapping her head. I laughed and then realized we didn't even get to eat. "Can we go home now? I'm hungry we didn't even get a single bite."

"No! We still have to find EXO, they could still be here, I could feel it! It's like they're so close to us, the radar in my head is going 'beep beep beep BEEEEEP'"

"C'mon, you know I'd love to find them too, but this is like looking for a needle in a haystack." I was right and Ha Yeon knew it. Even if they were still here in Sacramento for a while longer, it'd be almost impossible to find them. We could be passing each other and we wouldn't even know it.

Ha Yeon thought for a moment before continuting. "Okay. You're right." I could tell she was dissappointed, but what else could we do at this point?

"I'm sorry, I know you really wanted to see them again. Even when we go back home to Korea in a couple more months, it'll be impossible to meet up with them. I bet they forgot about last night anyways. I was just a damsel in distress, and Chanyeol was just being a gentleman by saving me from that accident."

"I can't wait to go back home." Ha Yeon sat down on a bench just outside the resturant. "I miss home, surprisingly."

I smiled and looked up at the sky. "Yeah, I miss it too. Don't worry, we'll be back home in no time. America has been fun, but I'm ready to go back to where I blend in easier." I thought about when we had first come here. We were bullied a little bit for being foreign exchange students, although I didn't know why that was such a bad thing. We sat there talking for a couple more moments before I turned to look at the door, realizing we were still in front of the resturant.

We made eye contact and I couldn't help but smile. I didn't think I would see her face again. She looked away from me quickly. I scratched my head and then told the guys that she was sitting right there. We all looked over once again, to see that she began to get a little antsy. I guess she knew it was us and was becoming just a little bit nervous.

We got up to go talk to them. I wanted to talk to her again. I wanted to know how she was doing after last night. I couldn't stop thinking about her well-being after her and Ha Yeon left last night. I felt a need to protect her, from anyone who wanted to do harm to her.

As we got closer, she looked frantic, and all of a sudden Ha Yeon stood up and started towards the door to exit the resturant. I was a little confused. I quickened my pace and tried to get through the tables and tables of people in the resturant. We were about 10 feet away from them when a crowd of girls suddenly burst through the door. They all held signs reading 'EXO, we love you!' and other things along those lines. They ran towards us in a mob, blocking our way to Soo Min and Ha Yeon. I was tall enough to see that they had already exited the resturant. I groaned in frustration realizing that they slipped out of our grasp.

"Guys, someone get to them, before they leave!" Kai yelled over all the commotion.

"Chanyeol, just go grab her before she leaves." Suho pushed me through the crowd. The girls all jumped on my back and tried to hug me, but I bowed and said sorry multiple times, before heading to the door. Please be close by.

I pushed the door open and looked to my right. I didn't see them in sight. I pulled off my mask and sunglasses, I could barely breathe with them on. I looked to my left and-

Soo Min looked up at me. I was breathing heavily from the huge mess I had just gone through inside. Her eyes widened just like they had when we were inside the resturant, except this time, she didn't look away. She smiled faintly at me and I did the same. I didn't know what to say to her now that she was here. She wasn't being attacked and she wasn't unconscious, so I could actually talk to her, have a conversation with her.

I was surprised when she slowly stood up, with the aid of Ha Yeon, and walked toward me. I couldn't move for some reason, I was just frozen in my spot, like a statue. She stopped when she was about a foot away from me. We just stared at each other for a few more seconds before she spoke.

"Hi. Uhm.... Listen, I don't know how to thank you enough. I wouldn't be standing here right now if it weren't for you." she spoke quietly, not knowing what to say next. I looked down at her arms since she seemed to be awfully stiff. Bruises covered her arms and neck, and I was almost sure she had more on her torso, knowing that that guy had thrown her around like a rag doll.

"I'm glad I was passing through at the moment. I don't know what would've happened to you if I wasn't there." I said, flipping my non-existent long hair.

She scoffed a little before continuing. "No, really, I don't know what I would've done if he had had the chance to.....yeah." She laughed before going on. "I'm glad to see you actually, we've been walking around town for a while now looking for you guys. The hotel said you guys would still be around, possibly, and Ha Yeon insisted we should find you guys to thank you, but I didn't actually think it was possible."

My stomach was doing somersaults. "You guys looked for us that entire time? How did you know you'd even find us. We couldv'e crossed paths and missed each other by that much." At this point, Ha Yeon walked over and stood next to me.

"Well, we had to try, right? I, for one, couldn't let my best friend's savior get away before a final 'thank you.'" She bowed before continuing. "So..... thank you." She bowed once again. "That one was for Soo Min, since she can't really move right now.."

I laughed before bowing back. "It's no problem, like I said, I'm glad she's okay." There was a bit of awkward silence before Soo Min spoke up again.

"So, I guess that's all we had to say, really. You guys are probably leaving soon, huh? Are you going back to Korea?"

"Yeah." I was a little sad that we were going back. "I don't know if we'll be coming back anytime soon to America though. I'm guessing both of you attend school here since you were at that dance last night."

"Yup. I like it here, but I do miss home a lot." Soo Min attempted to shrug but it didn't really work.

"Oh I-" I was interrupted by the guys jogging out of the resturant, their hair and clothes a little frazzled. "Hyung, let's go. Those girls are kinda crazy fans, and we have a flight to catch."

I stepped to the side to reveal Soo Min and Ha Yeon standing there, both of them blushing a little at the sight of all of us standing there.

"Wow, I never thought that we would ever get to meet the members of EXO face to face like this. And in such a weird predicament." Ha Yeon tapped her chin and squinted her eyes before freaking out and screaming just a little bit.

"Ha Yeon!" Soo Min bowed slightly and smiled at the rest of the guys. "Hi, I'm Kim Soo Min. This is my bestfriend Lee Ha Yeon."

"Oh, we know." Suho nodded.

"Huh? What do you mean? If I recall, this is the first time meeting you guys in person like this....." Soo Min pondered for a while before Lay spoke up.

"We met you I guess, last night, you could say."

"You were just unconscious!" Xiumin smiled.

Soo Min's mouth practically dropped so low it looked like it was about to drag her down. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry, was I that big of a pain in the ?" She shut her eyes before opening them again and slightly smiled but we could tell it was forced. She was embarrased at the fact that the guys had seen her in such a state.

"Well, that's just great then, huh?" She puffed out. Kai looked at his watch.

"Guys, everything's good now, right? Our plane back to Korea is in 35 minutes, we should definitely be at the airport right now."

"Oh shoot." Sehun sighed.

Ha Yeon spoke again. "Go you guys!! It was REALLY nice meeting all of you in person. I don't think it would've even been possible to be this close to you back in Korea, you're a little too famous there." she grinned. "At least you know us now, so if you ever see us again, please say hi!!"

We all agreed and then we were off. Soo Min said nothing else, she only smiled. But I knew it was a smile of gratitude just by the look of her eyes. The guys turned the corner and found the van waiting for us there, ready to go. I looked back and saw Ha Yeon waving at us with both of her hands, and I assumed one was to symbolize Soo Min. We drove off and I couldn't help but feel somewhat empty.

It wasn't until we got to the airport that I realized I didn't know whether or not I'd be able to really see Soo Min again. I didn't know when she was coming back to Korea, if she ever was at all. I didn't have a way to contact her, I just didn't know how to see her again. I don't know why I wanted to see her again, I just had this feeling in both my head and heart that I had too, no matter what. I reassured myself that I would see her again soon. I'd be able to use resources to contact her, and I mean that in the least creepy way possible. I'd be able to talk to her again, I know it. But......

boy, was I wrong.
