chapter 21
apocalypse IIIt took them quite a while to bury all three bodies since there were only two of them. When they finished, the two boy stood side by side, watching the grave.
Byunghee stepped back and plucked up a few wildflowers before he put them on the graves. "That night." Mir started as Byunghee stood back at his side. His eyes fixed on the graves. "I was sleeping when I heard screaming. I looked out through the window and see how my neighbours were attacked by those things. I saw how one of those things bit on my friend. I helped him. I took him into my house and locked the door. I treated his wound. We stayed in the house hoping all of those screaming outside our house would stop."
Byunghee watched the younger closely as he listen attentively to Mir's story.
"If only..." A drop of clear pearl slid on his smooth cheek but he wiped it as quickly. He was done crying. He didn't want to shed even a single tear anymore. Not anymore. That was what he thought as his small frame shook when a storm of emotion hit him. He clenched his teeth and closed his eyes, unwilling for another tear to fall. "If only I know he would turn into one of those monsters and killed my family. If only I know."
Byunghee couldn't leave the younger like that and pulled the trembling body into his embrace. He Mir's brown locks, lending his shoulder for the later to cry on. "You couldn't have known."
Mir inhaled and exhaled shaky breath a few times before he continued. "I killed him when I realized he had killed Hyosun noona and bit on umma's shoulder. Hyosun turned first. Appa... Appa had to shoot her. And then Umma started to turn. He-he shot umma and himself, telling me to run and never turn back. And I did." Mir fisted Byunghee's jacket on both his sides so tightly that his knuckles turned white. "Appa couldn't live without Umma. Not even when I beg him to."
"Just cry." He Mir's hair soothingly.
Mir shook his head and just buried his face into Byunghee's shoulder. No. He would never cry again. He didn't want to. He couldn't let himself be so weak.
He wanted Mir to just cry and just let all of his emotions out. Grieved and mourned and later on, no matter how long in the future, he hoped they boy would move on. Live on. But, it seemed like the boy had different thought than him. Mir was strong. Stronger than himself.
Byunghee too had family. When the outbreak happened, he did feel the lost like what Mir had to go through. However he wasn't with his family when it happened. He didn't watch his family died with his own eyes and he couldn't imagine what Mir had to go through. Though he did went back to his home only to find the lifeless body of his parents, his two older sisters, his brother in law and his nephews. He didn't see them died in front of his eyes but still, each of them had lost something precious to them after the outbreak. Each of them.
Now that he had Mir and the others, he would protect them. He would protect all of his new family for as long as he could. He would even give his life for the others' safety. Mir in particular.
-too boring? Don't puke. It's just my writing style. Salute to those who still reading. I was thinking of putting more action. But, I am now officially lack of idea. But, there're still Mir's flashback with that psychotic scientist. That count for action, right? Hope so-
