Chapter 1
The Exiled Ice PrincessMy phone rang. In a void of darkness and silence, the ring tone pierced through and made its way to my eardrums. It took a moment to register what is currently
happening, and just like a thunder ceremoniously followed the lightning, recognition took over. I snatched my phone on the side table a few inches away from
my bed and squinted my eyes to identify the caller. I then pressed and swiped my iphone to answer and confirm whatever my manager is pressing about.
I sighed unconsciously for my body seemed to acknowledge that a bad news is about to splash me. What else could my manager deliver at 2 a.m. if not a bad
news, eh?
“Hello?” i spoke first and it came out hoarse and dry. I should drink water first. My system needs water. As my manager greeted me back, I laboriously rose
to my feet and exhaustedly took one step after another down to the kitchen side of the apartment. I’m really exhausted from all the meetings and negotiations
my business requires me to attend to. I opened the fridge and closed my eyes for a bit when the cold breeze it diffuses washed and soothed my tiresome face.
“Jessica, please do not forget that we have to be back later in Korea before 9 a.m. to meet with your comembers. And from there, fly to Beijing for a fan meeting.
The company wanted me to remind you again despite your busy schedule here in L.A.” He paused a bit and I found this as an opportunity to lay my iphone on
the countertop and pressed the loudspeaker. I got a glass from the neatly stacked set at the top cabinet arranged together with the plates and grabbed the
pitcher from the fridge. I poured myself a cold water and stared at my reflection that the glass is presenting me. I sighed once again and found myself missing
Krystal. My beautiful, bubbly sister.
“Yes, oppa. Thank you for reminding me. Again.” A smile from my lips escaped when the constant reminder from my manager regarding this matter hour after
an hour yesterday hit me and replayed in the back of my mind. Such a thoughtful manager. I felt a slight hesitation radiating from the other line before the
connection went dead. Something is not right. But then again, it’s just my feeling and I was wrong earlier from assuming that a bad news is going to hit me.
Thank God it’s just a thoughtful reminder from my manager. I shook my head disregarding the bad feeling and drank the water up until the last drop the glass
offered. I returned the pitcher back to the fridge, closed it, and let the glass find stability on the sink. I traced the path I took earlier back to my room, and into
my bed. Exhaustion warped my entire body as I laid my body’s dorsal side down to my ever comfy and fluffy bed. And found myself being in to the
world of dreams. A world that worries and fears are not permitted to enter. A world that perfect comfort and stability is displayed and this fascinated me.

Delayed. My flight was delayed. A pang of worry rushed through my spine and send signals to my optic nerves making my eyes wet. I bowed my head and
clasped my right hand toward the lower half of my face as if to stop and cover the incoming sob. A tear fell. As it traveled down, remnants of it were left along its
path making and emphasizing a vertical line. I snatched a handkerchief from my handheld bag and loosely wiped the residues of the tear. I can’t do anything
right now. We can’t do anything right now. Resignation hit me. Instead of wasting our energy arguing with the airport personnel, we sat down quietly on the
waiting lounge. I hope that everything will be alright. But it’s not that simple. Everything is in chaos.
