Chapter 29

Off The Record

a/n - Hi guys! Sorry it's been a little while. I'm writing this a/n here so that the ending of this chapter is left as a complete cliffhanger? Hahah you'll see what I mean.

Anyways, enough rambling from me. So go ahead and read this ery of a chapter lol I made you guys a gif to express my feelings:

"Saranghaja!"

“Did you get the new schedule from Manager hyung today?” asked Luhan, bumbling around Lana’s room as he fixed the positions of the new dresser and crib that had finally come in.

“No, I had to come home early because the furniture came in and mom and dad weren’t home,” replied Minseok, lounging comfortably in the cushiony rocking chair. “We made a good decision buying this chair. It’s seriously more comfortable than my bed.”

“Well, the actual concerts start at the end of January but the company decided on a mini Seoul concert at the end of December. It’s the day after Christmas…so by next week we’ll be performing the new songs! I’m so excited,” beamed Luhan, as he walked over to the elder resting in the chair and quietly kissed his forehead. “Um, hyung…I know the birth is scheduled for February 1st, but don’t worry. I won’t be missing it!”

Minseok’s eyes flew open at the statement as it took him by surprise.

“What do you mean you won’t be missing it? You’ll be in Japan! You guys have a concert that day,” stated Minseok, anxiety flowing through his body because he desperately wished the idiot had come up with a brilliant plan.

“Well, the concert is at night. Which means I can fly back to Seoul, be there when they pull my kid out, spend time with her, and then fly back and attend the concert!”

“You know, I always had a suspicion but now it’s confirmed.”

“What’s confirmed, hyung?”

“You’re an idiot.”

“What! My plan is fool-proof! It’s the only way I can be there for the birth and the concert.”

“I get that, but how can you possibly do all of that when you’ll be running on like 1-2 hours of sleep? You guys get most of your sleep on the plane, and if you’re running back and forth between two countries, you might not be able to stay awake for Lana or the concert. If you pass out from exhaustion on stage, it’ll create a huge mess.”

“Oh come on, it’s not like I haven’t missed some sleep before. I’ll drink like 20 cups of coffee so I’ll be fine, hyung!”

“And get a ing heart attack in the process? Yeah, no.”

“So you don’t want me to be there when you give birth?”

“Of course I want you there, dummy. But not like this. I know how important the concerts are so we can’t risk messing anything up now. Lana will be here when you come back.”

“Uh-huh…”

“You’re not listening to what I’m saying, are you?”

“Nope.”

“You’re going to attend both the birth and the concert anyways?”

“Yup.”

Minseok let out a loud sigh, yet he couldn’t help but feel a little happy and relieved at the thought of Luhan being by his bedside during the delivery.

“How are you guys feeling? Today is the Seoul comeback stage!” asked Minseok excitedly as he asked the three boys sitting in the living room.

“Pretty freaking excited but Manager Hyung told us to stay away from the company until two hours before show time,” replied Sehun.

“Why? Shouldn’t you guys be going over last minute details and whatnot? Who’s taking you guys to the concert?” questioned Minseok as he sent them a puzzled look.

“Because well, one he said we should clear our minds before the concert and not clog it with more practice. And second, we couldn’t practice properly if we wanted to anyway!” chuckled Luhan, slinging his arm over Minseok and resting his head on the elder’s shoulder.

“Why not? Did something happen?” asked Minseok once more.

“Hyung, you should’ve been there. Chanyeol and Kris were laughing so hard every time Kyungsoo tried to follow the choreography but couldn’t because his legs kept giving out. I almost thought Jongin was going to kill them,” added Sehun, wrapping his arm around Tao as they began laughing at Kyungsoo’s misery.

“It was the most hilarious thing! I almost felt bad for Kyungsoo but seeing him walk like a penguin was so true to character that we couldn’t help but bag on him!” laughed Tao as he explained Kyungsoo and Jongin’s walk of shame after they finally did the deed.

“You guys are so mean,” replied Minseok with a small smile.

“Tao, you won’t be laughing when you walk like that,” teased Luhan with a smirk. “Unless you’ve already experienced it and we just weren’t around to see it.”

“Oh my God, Luhan!” shrieked Minseok, smacking said boy on the arm as he blushed six different shades of red. “I don’t even want to think about what my little brother and his boyfriend have done!”

“What? I’m pretty sure they’ve done it! Look at them, they look anything but innocent!” defended Luhan with a loud laugh as Sehun and Tao coughed uncomfortably.

“Well…how do you know I don’t top?” mumbled Tao weakly but unfortunately loud enough for the other boys to hear.

What!” screamed Luhan and Minseok in unison, one in excitement and the other in pure terror.

“Oh seriously, calm your guys,” flushed Sehun, clearly embarrassed at the awkward situation. “We just…uh…tried it once….never again….huge mistake….”

“You brat!! You two already—” screamed Minseok but was interrupted by a phone call from an unknown number. “Give me a minute! I’m not done yet…”

Luhan watched as Minseok left the room to answer the call before bursting out into laughter.

“Holy , I’ve never seen him this pissed off in a while! You two are amazing,” choked out Luhan as he wiped the tears from his eyes from laughing so hard. “Better run for it while you have the chance!”

“Is he going to hurt us?” asked Tao, panic creeping in his voice as he laced his fingers with Sehun’s.

“No, princess…he’s going to ing murder us. Let’s get out of here. Later, Luhan hyung. Don’t tell Hyung we’re going out. The concert venue is about thirty minutes away so we’ll see you there tonight,” replied Sehun, pulling the other boy to his feet and running out of the room.

“You kids be safe!” giggled Luhan just as Minseok made his way back into the room.

“Where did those two go?” asked Minseok, sighing as he heard the front door shut. “I swear they’re going to give me a ing one day.”

“Don’t worry about them too much…at least they’re getting laid…” mumbled Luhan under his breath. “More than what I can say about us….”

“What was that, Luhan?”

“Oh nothing at all...who’s phone call was it?”

“Oh no one…listen, I’m going out to get some fresh air. I really need it after hearing what those two brats have been up to.”

“Okay! I’ll come too. Let me go grab a jacket really quick.”

“No! Luhan…um, just stay here. I got a call from the furniture store earlier and they’re supposed to be delivering the changing table today for Lana’s room. They should be coming soon so just stay put.”

“Are you sure? You shouldn’t be walking out by yourself in that condition, hyung. The table can be delivered some other day.”

“Luhan, please. I’m only 33 weeks. The doctor said I need all the exercise I can get. Helps with the Braxton-Hicks and whatnot…”

“Braxton-Hicks?! Aren’t those like contractions? Are you going into labor, hyung?”

“No genius. Maybe if you ever picked up a baby book and read something, you would know.”

“Are you getting angry at me? Because it sure sounds like you’re getting angry at me.”

“I’m just….not feeling comfortable. I’m sorry I snapped at you. I really need some fresh air.”

“Okay hyung, make sure you come back soon. The concert starts at eight and we only have two hours left before we have to be there.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll be back before you know it.”

***

The sun was already starting to set as Minseok glanced at his watch. 6pm.  you winter! Getting dark so early for no reason…

Minseok felt a pang of anger run through his veins as he walked closer to the disgusting smelling club. What the is Mr. Lu thinking of calling a pregnant person to this place…

Minseok felt more like an idiot for actually agreeing to come to this place. The last thing he needed was for Lana to be surrounded by cigarette smoke and alcohol. He just hoped Lana wouldn’t be born with a Cuban cigar in her left hand and a bottle of Glen Livet in her right.

He whipped out his phone to give the old man a call because he absolutely refused to step foot inside the place. He had already shown up to the ty place, but he was not going to go any further into it.

“I’m outside. You said it was urgent so please hurry up. I have to leave quickly,” was all Minseok said before he hung up.  He shivered as he stood out in the cold, his thick jacket doing its best to keep the pregnant male warm.

“You actually showed up,” came the already drunk voice accompanied with that hot mess of a laughter that Minseok had come to loathe.

Of course I did, you old man. You threatened me, remember?

“Mr. Lu, what is it that you needed so urgently that you couldn’t wait until tomorrow like we planned. I said I would give you the money tomorrow,” said Minseok as calmly as he could, teeth chattering from the cold.

“Wellllllllll, change of plans, kid. I need the money right now. You brought the check book like I asked, right?”

“Are you serious? You couldn’t wait one day? I get that you have advantage over me because of this baby but how can you seriously act like this? I mean, she is your granddaughter.”

“Listen here. I don’t give two s about you, that idiot who knocked you up, or the little mistake that you call your daughter. The only thing I care about is the money that you are going to give me in the next two minutes or else I will ing call up every news station I can and spill your little secret.”

Minseok glared, trying his best to keep his calm. The last thing he wanted was to land in the hospital again due to his recklessness. I was going to give him the money tomorrow anyways. What’s one day sooner going to do?

He took out the check book and began writing the obscene amount in the little box. It hurt his heart to see the amount of zeros trailing after the initial number. Seriously, this .

“I dare you to ing call up the news stations,” came a livid voice from behind Minseok.

For a moment, everything was eerily quiet.

Minseok felt all the blood drain from his body. He felt his knees go weak as he struggled to stay upright. His stomach did a massive flip and he felt a bout of nausea make its way up his throat.

“Go on, call up every ing news station and tell them what your son did, you piece of !”

“Aww, little Lulu to the rescue?” said the old man as he burst into laughter while pointing his finger at Luhan.

“L-Luha—” stuttered Minseok, half from the cold and half from the fear of what was going to happen next.

“Here, I’ll even dial the ing number for you!” yelled Luhan, whipping out his cell phone in record speed and dialing a number.

“Luhan…stop! Don’t do this…..please,” said Minseok weakly, wishing his voice was loud enough to penetrate Luhan’s thick skull. This is not happening right now.

“Aw, are you mad that your little here went behind your back and gave me money? Does it hurt your pride that you weren’t even man enough to make him listen to you?” cackled Mr. Lu, clearly enjoying the situation and wanting to provoke Luhan more. “Luhan, you should’ve been more like me, keeping your mother in line every time she messed up. That’s how you get them to listen to you son, not by being nice but by beating them into submission.”

The last thing Minseok wanted was a fight, and yet that is exactly what the situation ended in.

Luhan launched at his dad with a fist connecting to the drunken man’s jaw. The old man tumbled backwards and tripped, laughing while he fell.

“Did you really think you two could keep that pregnancy a secret? I’m going to tell the world about how you knocked up the choreographer of EXO and how you’re still parading around like you give a about your fans.

“Shut the up! I don’t care if the world finds out Minseok is having my kid. I don’t care if you tell them whatever bull you were going to feed them anyways,” shrieked Luhan, turning towards Minseok, his voice breaking as he did his best to choke back a sob. “I thought we trusted each other enough to tell one another if something was happening. Why did you keep something like this from me? Was I not important enough to tell?”

“Luhan,” mumbled Minseok, trying his best to string together a coherent sentence. The shock of the situation had rendered him almost speechless as he tried to defend his actions. “I was just protecting you—”

Stop hyung. Please, I don’t think I can hear it. You’re just going to make another excuse because you think I’m dumb enough to fall for it!” yelled Luhan, looking around to find the old man but shocked to find him gone. “Where did that old bastard go?!”

“Luhan, I’m so sorry!” choked out Minseok, a sob ripping its way out of his throat. “I’m so sorry! You’re not an idiot. Please, try to understand why I did this.”

Luhan stood quietly, watching the elder before him break down into tears as Minseok slid to the ground, hands covering his face. He slowly walked over to the crouched body and bent down.

“Hyung…” said Luhan, trying his best to hold back his own set of tears. “This hurts.”

“I know. I made a mistake. I should’ve never met your dad in the first place. I shouldn’t have kept this from you. I made a mistake and I’m so sorry,” sobbed Minseok, stress and panic having completely taken over his body at this point.

He felt dizzy and on the verge on unconsciousness yet all he wanted was for Luhan to pull him into a hug. He desperately wished for that warmth but Luhan’s voice seemed so far away.

“I’ll see you later at home. You can’t be out here in this condition. Please call a taxi and get home safely. I would take you but the concert starts soon,” said Luhan, walking away slowly. “Afterwards, we’re going to have a very long talk.”

And just like that Luhan was gone. Minseok couldn’t even blame the younger boy for leaving him out in the cold because he deserved it. He deserved to be deserted like the traitor he was.

He continued to sob silently in the dark when a sudden ringtone snapped Minseok out of his frozen state. He stared at his cell phone for a few seconds before answering the call.

“Hello?”

“Yes, is this Kim Minseok?”

“Yes.”

“Minseok, we couldn’t reach your parents at the moment so thank you for picking up. Please don’t panic but two boys were brought in by the ambulance and we just got around to identifying them. Kim Sehun and Huang Zitao were hit by a drunk driver and are in critical condition. Please come to Seoul National Hospital as soon as possible.”

The phone slowly slid out of Minseok’s hand as he sat there on the ground, numb from the news he was just given. Sehun and Tao….drunk driver….critical….

And then the pains started.

A loud groan left Minseok’s mouth as he clutched his stomach, trying to sooth the sudden burst of pain that had surged through his abdomen. Minseok began to panic as he felt another strong pain make its way through his body. . This isn’t happening…these can’t be labor contractions….!

Minseok scrambled to grab his phone and dialed the ambulance.

“It’s an emergency. Please, come quickly. I’m going into labor and I have no one to take me.”

After telling them of his location, Minseok fell to the ground once more, eyes squeezing shut as he countered another painful contraction.

Luhan….Lana…Sehun….Tao….I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you all.

And with that Minseok faded into unconsciousness.

The only muffled noise that was made came from the cell phone Luhan had dropped earlier.

“Hello?! Are you still there Minseok? Luhan? I certainly can’t keep all of this off the record! This news is going to make me rich!”

And with that, the line went dead.

And finally, all hell broke loose.

Chapter 34: Fudge brownies!!! Every single chapter of this fic was interesting. I love how you wrote Minseok. How he's always thinking of decapitating the members, especially LuHan. I loved the initial angst. And the drama with Mr. Lu was uff! I can tell that you have a great sense of humor, based on this fic. Some of the dialogues, hilarious! I don't usually read mpreg but this fic changed my mind. Excellent job on this one.

I hope you don't mind, I have a question. How did LuHan find out Minseok was meeting with Mr. Lu? I'm really curious.
