With a Little Help from My Friends

When Min Ho Met Shin Hye

She was in beautiful Jeju-do.  She should be excited.  She loved being near the water.  And she was hanging out with Geun Suk Oppa.

But she couldn't bring herself to be excited today.  Geun Suk Oppa gave up trying to have any type of conversations with her and found fun elsewhere.

So here she was, sitting by herself, in a quiet cafe, sipping coffee and feeling lonely and abandoned, again.

Shin Hye looked outside the cafe window.  The sky was gray and moody.  It was drizzling lightly right now. The rain had been coming down in small spurts throughout the day.  The gloomy weather suited her mood.

She hadn't slept well the last couple of nights.

After she left Min Ho's house, she drove down to the Han River, to the place where they had watched the sunrise.  She had managed to hold most of her tears at bay during the drive.  But once she parked the car, she allowed her tears to flow freely, pouring out the pain and hurt she had been holding in.  Afterwards, she drove home and fell into a restless sleep.  She slept walk through the following day only remembering bits and pieces.

Last night she hugged her phone tightly, hoping he would call or text before he left for Bali.  She gave up after an hour and fell into another disturbed sleep.

This morning she had woken up in a melancholic mood.   She tried to act as normal as possible, not wanting to worry her parents and her staff.  It had drained most of her energy trying to act normal.

Keeping busy helped to keep her mind off of Min Ho and their fight.  She made it through the filming and photoshoot, which took the majority of the afternoon and evening.  She can't remember now if the filming went well.

But now that everyone had gone off and she was by herself, she could no longer keep her mind blank.  She drifted back to that day, how dreamlike it was.  She had felt so loved and cherished.  They were lovers in the truest sense that day.  It started wonderfullly.  How did it end so badly?

Yes, she was wrong for not telling him about the matchmaking session.  But, she honestly did not think it was a big deal.  It was something she had done in the past and it held no meaning then and it didn't have any meaning this last time either.

She had Omma's and Emo's agreement not to arrange anymore matchmaking sessions for her when she reported back to them that day.

She didn't tell Min Ho because she didn't want him to make a big deal out of it and because it was in the past.  She had already taken care of it.  It wasn't going to happen again.

The more she thought about it,  the more hurt she felt that he didn't even want to listen to her explanations.  He didn't even try to understand why she did it.  He just shut her out.

She deserved his anger she had acknowledged that.  But she also deserved his trust.  She just hopes Min Ho doesn't make her suffer too long.

Shin Hye was ready for bed.  She picked up her phone to send Min Ho a text. She had always sent him a good night text every time he was out of the country.

Tonight he was out of the country.

He was still angry and probably wouldn't respond.  She didn't care if he didn't respond, she had to do it.

She hesitated when she recalled the look on his face and his last words to her.  He hadn't kicked her out.  He just said that he wanted to be by himself.  That gave her hope.  She took a deep breath and shored up her courage.

SH:  Oppa.  Good night.  Have a good sleep.

The remembering his instructions.

SH:  I didn't have fun today.
SH:  I didn't talk to Jang Geun Suk.
SH:  I didn't touch him.
SH:  I didn't smile at him.
SH:  I didn't laugh with him.
SH:  I miss you.

She waited for a response.

"Ya.  Park Shin Hye. Will you stop looking like you've just lost your best friend?" Geun Suk was impatient with Shin Hye's sad little face.

He  was tired of seeing her mope. She did that all day yesterday. She was no fun at all. He wanted smiley Shin Hye.

"I know you haven't lost your best friend, since I'm standing right here." He continued, flashing his best Jang Geun Suk smile.

She snorted and sneered at his vanity.

"Who put that look on your face? Do you want me to beat him up for you? Mess him up a bit?"  He asked her.

No, she thought.  He didn't need to mess anyone up for her.  She was capable of doing it all by herself. Thank you very much.

"So. Who is it?" Geun Suk asked.

Shin Hye was going through heartbreak.  He had been waiting for her to open up to him.  But his patience was running thin.

Shin Hye liked to withdraw into herself when she was upset rather than talk about things. That drove him nuts. He personally thinks it's better to just yell and get it out in the open. That was the reason why the could never be more than friends. They would drive each other crazy with their opposite personalities.

"Let's get married." He proposed.

"What?" Shin Hye asked him. "Are you mad? We would drive each other crazy in a week."

"Good. Just checking to make sure it wasn't me you were moping over." He was teasing. But it did get her to respond, heatedly.

"The reason you are all sad and mopey.  Who is it?"  He replied, serious now.

When she didn't answer,  he filled in the blank.

"I'm guessing it's Lee Min Ho." Geun Suk got straight to the point.

It was easy to guess.  Anyone who saw them together thought they probably had something going on.  He was told about Lee Min Ho's presence at her birthday party and about their odd behavior towards each other that night.

"He's your type."  He told her.

"How is he my type?" She asked, surprised.  Geun Suk had never said that to her before.  He would usually joke or make fun of her chemistry with co-stars.  He never suggested that anyone of them was her type.

"You need someone who doesn't take crap from you.  You take it upon yourself to lead others.  You take care of others. You treat everyone like a friend."

"But, do you know what?  You actually want to be taken care of.  You want to be led.  You need someone who treats you like a woman not just a friend."

"From what I know of Lee Min Ho, he's that kind of guy."  That was tough for him to say to her.

"And if it turns out that I'm wrong, then I'm going to kick his ."

Geun Suk knew Shin Hye.  They've been close friends for awhile now.  He had a lot of friends, but she was one of those special people to him.  He would always protect her.

He knew that she felt lonely sometimes because she didn't have a boyfriend.  But that was partly her
