Mood Swings [Lu Han]

For The Love of Writing. One Shot Collection

He should have known the moment he entered the place to see it in a weird sense of disarray. Something was off, but he didn’t know exactly what. The television was on, he could hear it through the passage he was standing in. Some sappy romance by the sound of it, he cringed.

“Luhan?” he heard her voice over the hub-bub of the television as he shucked his shoes off and placed them on the rack, adjusting hers in the process as they seemed to be hastily kicked off. They’d just moved in together and Luhan was just falling into the rhythm of things. He made his way over to the living area only to see her sprawled over the couch, eyes glued to the television.

“Yeah?” his eyes trailed over the disheveled girl in front of him. Her hair was up in a messy bun with half of it falling out of place, her glasses were lopsided just slightly and she was clad in the loosest pajamas he had ever seen on her. The floor around her was littered with candy wrappers and Luhan could decipher the teeny “black current hearts” written on them. She was never this messy, he wondered to himself as he heard her groan and twist on the couch before reaching for the bar of chocolate in front of her and taking a bite.

“Luhan,” she called for his attention again as he turned around to see her pouting face “would you please fix me some coffee?”

Luhan raised his eyebrow, she never asked him to make her coffee, especially because she complained about how watery he made it. Shifting her legs and plonking himself on the cushioning, he simply turned to her.

“Why don’t you make it yourself? You…” he faltered when he felt a dangerous glare being thrown in his direction. It appeared that he was treading on very thin ice and he had no idea why. He sighed, stirring from his position to slowly get up and make his way to the kitchen when his foot hit an empty jar of Nutella sitting on the floor. The spoon that was in it clattered loudly causing her to flinch before groaning and covering her face and curling up into foetal position.

The ridiculous dialogue continued in the background as Luhan contemplated getting up from the seat and actually going and making the coffee as he awkwardly reached over and patted her thigh.

“You alright?”

Her head shot up and her eyes met his in an angry glare which simply told him his hand should move fifty feet away from her along with the rest of him and Luhan took the quick decision to get off the couch and rush into the kitchen.

Luhan watched the water swirl around the filter as the coffee dripped down into the mug. He was confused out of his mind. For as long as he knew her, she was never this messy, or this moody except for when she was stressed out. But she was on a break from all her work now, so stress was definitely not a factor that was causing this.

He eyed the two empty packet of chips and three wrappers of chocolates lying in the kitchen dustbin as he disposed the filter paper and waste left behind. Obviously something was extremely amiss. Firstly, she never ate so much in one go, and secondly, she could never eat so many sweet things without feeling sick.

Luhan turned, reaching for the sugar when he felt her arms sneaking around him and her chest pressing against his back. He froze when she pressed her lips on the side of his neck causing a shiver to run down his spine as her hug tightened.

“I’m sorry Hannie.” She said earnestly into his ear as he stood there awkwardly, unsure as to whether this was to add to his confusion or whether he should simply go along with this. Obviously the latter was winning considering the way her lips were pressing against the skin of his neck softly and trailing behind his ear. His fingers curled around hers as he slowly turned around to meet her face to face.

Her lips were parted, there was even a smear of chocolate still on them, her hair still disheveled and completely out of place but her eyes burned into him as she whispered again.

“I’m sorry.”

And all he could feel after that was the sweet sensation of their lips meeting and the taste of chocolate mingling into their breathless kiss. She grasped at him, trying to pull him closer and closer as he swiped his tongue over the chocolaty sweet lips under his which parted without resistance. Their tongues tangled as his fingers slowly made their way to the hem of her shirt, fiddling with it as he made contact with skin. He tried to edge the fabric higher as her hands made their way to his chest and firmly pushed him away.

Luhan gaped at the girl before him before panting out “W-what? What’s wrong?”

She looked down, twiddling her thumbs as he stared at her, annoyed at the situation. She took a deep breath before saying

“Hannie, I’m on my period.”

Silence.

“Oh.”

So now he knew.
