Chapter XIX – Same Pace, Same Reason

Without Sooyoung in this morning, Taeyeon and Yuri go to school by themselves. Yuri, as usual, will go pick Yoona up while Taeyeon just walks to school by herself.

It’s been quite a while since Taeyeon got her time for herself on her way to school so she figured that she can get some relaxing time before the whole brainstorming in the classes. Her tests are coming soon and she has absolute no confidence in it.

Although she’s with Eron, she was prohibited to use that status to pass the class. There was already that rules hanging everywhere saying that no one shall use their special identity to pass the class. Anyone that bribes the school council will be given a serious punishment.

All she can do is to wait for that day to come and see doom tags along.

She sighs before taking a turn which she almost comes to the school but an idea popped into her head. It wouldn’t be fun if she only gets to see Tiffany right in front of the school gate. She then decided to turn back and run to Tiffany’s house before she left.

Just at the same time she reached, Tiffany was just about to lock the gate and takes her leave. When she turns around and sees Taeyeon, she quickly runs to her. It’s a rare scene seeing how Taeyeon sweats and pants in front of her house.

“Tae-Tae ah!” She took out the napkin in the pocket of her bag and lifts Taeyeon’s face to wipe off the sweats that are dripping around her face. Even her hairs were stuck on her face. Tiffany couldn’t help but to smile at that dorky kid.

Taeyeon is her protector and she really protected Tiffany but she just couldn’t stop herself from thinking how Taeyeon looks just like a kid in her eyes.

“There, you’re clean now.” Taeyeon smiles  when her eyes met with Tiffany’s. Just like Yuri, memories about how they almost lost their lives really became a barrier between their relationships. But, compare to Yuri, she’s much stronger.

The moment her eyes were on Tiffany, she couldn’t help but to feel relieve that until today, she was still able to see her girlfriend. Feeling how thankful she is, she pulls Tiffany into an embrace.

Tiffany was shocked with the sudden action by Taeyeon which caused her to glance at her in a question expression. Though, she chose to keep quiet. Maybe, she faced some problem that she doesn’t want to use words to express her but action. After all, Taeyeon wasn’t a person that is good with words.

Tiffany replied the hug and pull in the elder girl. For now, she has to make Taeyeon as comfortable as possible.

Minutes passed within the hug and it was a total silence until Tiffany wants to pull away and break the silent, but Taeyeon stopped it and hugs Tiffany closer to her.

“Fany-ah, no words can express how much I love you and how thankful I am that I can still see you.”

Tiffany was shocked to listen at what Taeyeon just said. It’s so rare that Taeyeon suddenly talked in such depress tone. It’s as if something went wrong.

“Something went wrong, babe?” Tiffany tries to get some information out from Taeyeon.

Instead of an answer, Taeyeon moves away from the embrace and again looks into her eyes. She sweeps away the few strains of hair that blocked the beautiful eyes that smile so she can get a better view at it.

Slowly, Taeyeon leans in and let her lips meet with Tiffany’s.

“Nothing shall ever go wrong between us, Fany. I’ll protect this relationship until the end.” Taeyeon says as she slips her hand to hold onto the latter.

They both missed each other a lot, considering how Taeyeon would always disappears so suddenly for her meetings or actions. They then walk hand in hand to the school.

…except, something is really bothering Taeyeon’s mind.

Yuri who feels guilty for leaving Yoona alone yesterday at the nurse quickly went to pick her up at her house. She was thinking that she will get excused since she did leave a paper note, telling where she went. The unfortunate thing was that she couldn’t wish her good night last night because it was too late to be texting.

She waits at the usual place, usual time and was doing the exact same thing every time she reached here. After quite a while, the person she wants to meet finally came out of her home.

But… Yoona just walked past her, unacknowledged her presence. Anyone who passed by knew that Yoona did that on purpose.

Without stunned by that for long, Yuri quickly catches up with Yoona.

“Yoong-ah, are you angry?” Yuri asked while trying to synchronize her footsteps with Yoona. With a misstep, she might just fell.

Then again, Yoona refuses to respond and just walks straight. It leaves Yuri no choice and so, she runs up to the younger girl and blocks her way. After successfully blocking her way, she leans in for a peck, hoping that it will cheers the girl up by a little or at least, acknowledged her presence.

Yoona opens her eyes with the sudden kiss and looks at Yuri. When their eyes meet, Yuri can sense that the younger girl is feeling some sort of annoyed.

“Hey…” She interlocks her fingers with Yoona’s and thankfully, she didn’t refuse this one. It gives Yuri some hope in cheering the doe eyed girl. But still, she doesn’t talk.

“Jagiya…” Yuri, not getting any replies from the younger girl, starts to sway around their interlocked hands and show out some aegyo.

The younger girl couldn’t contain anymore and slowly forms a lift on the tail of her lips. With that little progress, Yuri showed the happiest smile anyone ever seen. Of course, who wouldn’t be in cloud nine when your girlfriend who was mad at you finally smiles?

“Are you still mad of yesterday?” They are now walking towards the school so they won’t be late. Yuri can’t help but to ask that question. She was dying inside when she knows her girlfriend was angry.

“Well, a little.” Yoona answered, “You’ve created a wonderful and perfect dream for me and cast me to sleep before you left to find your boss.” She sounded a little sad.

“Sorry, Yoong, I have to go. It was an emergency.” Yuri explains but keeps her head hanging low, afraid that Yoona would be mad upon hearing the last sentence.

“But, the good thing was that it wasn’t just a dream, it was real.” Yoona says and sneakily pecks on Yuri’s cheek.

“Thanks for understanding, Yoong. I love you.” Yuri says as Yoona puts her head on Yuri’s shoulder.

“I love you too.”

Same as Taeyeon, even though their bodies are with their lovers, she was still thinking about the encounter yesterday. And also, the progress Sooyoung was making until now.

Instead of resting, she gets up from the wad bed and tries to sneak out from there. If Seohyun found here, she will be asked to go back to rest again. It happens a lot although she just spent a night there.

She got so bored just laying down on the bed, not even a person came in and asked if she wanted food or not. She was thinking if someone did ask that, she will say ‘YES!’ But again, no one came in to visit her.

“Unnie, you should be resting!” Before Sooyoung could even close the door behind her, Seohyun’s voice startled her.

“Ugh, not resting again. I’m getting more tired when lying on that bed.” Sooyoung says as she loosens the muscles on her neck and leans on the wall next to her door, “Plus, Eron oppa asked me to finish the EC asap. I should really do it.”

When Seohyun heard what Sooyoung said, she quickly turns her head to look at Sooyoung.

“What?”

“You remembered about EC?” Seohyun asked in a shocked tone, “I mean, didn’t your memory get absorbed to activate it? How did you remember it?”

Sooyoung scratches her neck as she herself doesn’t know how it happened, “After touching a blueprint in the construction room, I guess a small part in my mind is still saved in my brain. Everything went back to me before I woke up earlier.”

“Glad to hear that, unnie! Then, do you remember what happened later?”

Sooyoung tries to think hard on that question but to no avail, she just couldn’t bring up anything. How she was brought here and how did she get the gemstones. She just shakes her head as a reply to Seohyun.

Seohyun sighs at the elder girl’s misfortune. Truthfully, except Sooyoung, everyone here knows every single part of Sooyoung’s past. Under the direction of Eron for not disturb her mind for now, no one dared to speak it up.

With Sooyoung right here in front of her, she’s in a debate whether or not to tell her about it.

“Seo, I’ll get going.” Lucky for Seohyun, Sooyoung decides to not talk about her past.

“Where will you be going, unnie?” Seohyun asked her.

“Maybe I’ll just go out for a walk or something, or” Sooyoung walks towards Seohyun, “Am I allowed to go to the school area?”

“Hmm, oppa didn’t say anything about you can’t go so I guess you can. But, I’m not sure if you should go there now.” Seohyun worries that Sooyoung will meet up with Jessica. It’s still dangerous for them to meet up at this moment.

“Then, out I go.” Sooyoung says before she leaves. Seohyun couldn’t think of any reasons to stop Sooyoung or it’ll become suspicious so she just lets Sooyoung go.

Sigh…

Finally, fresh air. Sooyoung thought as she stretches out both of her arms widely. She lets out her breath and starts to walk away from the company.

“I’ve been sleeping since yesterday evening and now it’s noon. I’m so out of fuel right now.” Sooyoung mumbles to herself while crossing the road. She looks at her tummy and realized it’s dying right now.

“I’m going to search for some stall food.” Sooyoung made an evil face while having that conversation with herself. As she comes closer to the stall, she quickly runs to it; just like when a kid saw a balloon.

Her eyes scan everything at the stall and couldn’t stop herself from drooling. If she has the money, she would buy each of everything here for her poor stomach that didn’t get to eat her favorite food.

Her eyes still wander around until she decided to buy 3 packs of spicy ddeokbokki and snacks as side dishes. She walks to the table and chair nearby to eat the food.

“How refreshing…” She smiles at the first ddeokbokki she put in . She couldn’t be much happier when her afternoon is all about food.

For almost an hour, she was just there eating all the food. Whenever she finishes something, she will get up and go to the stall again to get something new. But sadly, she doesn’t have much money so after her third round, she takes her leave.

She puts her hands into the pockets on her pants as she is getting bored. While taking her stroll, her eyes fall on something familiar. She smiles at the memories she built there with a certain person.

It had been two days including today that she last heard and seen Jessica. It will be a lie if she says that she doesn’t think about that elder girl these couple of days.

An idea popped into her head when the memories were replaying in her head. She takes out her phone and looks at the time.

If I run now, I’ll probably still get to meet her. Sooyoung smiles at that idea and leaves the place she was standing on.

For such a long time, this was almost the first time Sooyoung was actually running to meet someone with a smile that says ‘I’m happy if I get to meet her’. After all, Sooyoung had been using her running to chase people these past few days. And of course, she doesn’t have a smile on her face on those occasions.

While running, a thought appeared in her mind. She slows down her speed until she stops and puts her palm on her heart. She looks at the covered spot and feels something weird.

Why am I so eager to meet her compare to the other elder girls? Why does my heart beat so fast when I am getting closer to her? She still stares at her heart and starts to be curious with the questions in her head. What is going on?

“Soo-Sooyoung?” Upon hearing the voice of the girl that occupied her mind, she lifts her head up and looks at her. When their eyes met, Sooyoung’s heart doubled the speed but seeing the girl is now in front of her, her mind went blank.

Compare to how Sooyoung was feeling, Jessica was shocked to see Sooyoung in front of her. Her heartbeat accelerates when she realized that she called out the younger girl’s name. She was so afraid that Sooyoung will hate her for what she has done, especially after last night.

Seeing how Sooyoung didn’t respond much and just stares at her like a living statue, her heart is still beating fast but the reason changed. She realized this wasn’t the same nervousness she got from before; it was the pace that told her she had fallen for the shikshin.

Same paces of heartbeats and having the same reason behind it.
