Drabble 3: Cold

It’s cold, and Kris has to do whatever it takes to keep his pack warm.

He eyes the pack; currently, it’s a tangled, confused mess of heads, paws and tails that are all jumbled up as everyone huddles for warmth. Snow falls heavily outside of the small cave in the mountains, and Kris rumbles in satisfaction when he sees that everyone is warm.

He settles down on his own at the edge of the mass; he is healthy and strong. He can last the night with a little less warmth than the others.

Kris wakes up again in the dead of the night, his instincts sensing that something isn’t quite right. He opens his eyes and sniffs, the air; everyone is still here. He counts the number of paws and is relieved to find fourty-four paws and eleven tails in the mass beside him.

Then, he feels it. A shiver runs through the body beside him and a low whimper sounds through the cave.

Kris is on his feet in an instant, nudging the weary wolf to his feet, his ears flattened in worry.

Suho whines quietly, his bony limbs trembling with cold.

It’s a cold night, and Kris has to do whatever it takes to keep his pack warm.

In an instant, Suho is wrapped up in Kris’s arms, huddled against his belly and swaddled with his tail. The smaller wolf fits easily into his side, and soon the trembling stops and Suho falls asleep again after affectionately nosing into his alpha’s side.

Kris falls asleep again, lulled by Suho’s soft breathing. And when they wake in the morning, the pack nearly squishes the two of them, each of them fighting for their beloved alpha and beta’s affection.
