Friday morning already arrived as all the students in 3-A are entering the classroom one by one. Most of them looks like they have not enough sleep, and some of them even look like they don’t have their sleeps last night. As the big exam coming nearer and nearer, all of the 3^rd year students are giving what they got to study. The top students are mostly targeting Seoul University as others are just trying their best. Choosing a major course is not an easy task as it will lead to the way our future life will be. Since all the syllabus is coming to an end, the teachers just let the students do a self-study during the class. If the students encounter any problems, then they can go straight to the teachers’ room to ask.

 

Finished the last question on Lesson Five, GD pulls up his arm into the air, try to make his back and shoulder feels better. Looking at her right, Sunye is still concentrating on her mathematics book as her right hand moving so fast. Feeling like being watched, she looks at her friend beside her and pull up her head a little.

“What?”

“I cannot wait for  tomorrowwwww,” GD giggled and Sunye just elbowed her. She steals a glance at GD’s back seat just to see that Jessica is too busy with her book. Being relieved, she let out her small sigh and then widens her eyes toward GD. Knowing his fault, he put his right hand to cover his mouth.

“Do you guys want anything?”

Startled with a sudden Jessica’s voice, both of them jump up a little and face Jessica, looking pale.

“What happened, guys?” looking suspicious, Jessica press her eyelid to make her eyes smaller and looks skeptically at both of her friends.

“Nothing,” and to make it look more suspicious, both of them answered in unison.

Not buying it, Jessica is still glaring at them.

“Well, actually, we were just being shocked at your sudden voice. That’s all,” Sunye tried to cover it.

“Not buying it. What is i….” Jessica is still looking at them and suddenly GD tap her hand.

“OMG, it’s Yoochun. Sica-ah, it’s Yoochun.. Why is he here? OMG, he comes to meet Yoona. I think you’re right Sica, about the two of them,” pointing at the walking boy who just entering the classroom, GD fake his excitement to cover it.

And fortunately, it does work. “OMG, I know it. It was since the musical play I bet. Remember that I told you, Yoochun came to watch Yoona practices. I know there is something between them. I just can tell.”

GD and Sunye who finally found the escape just nodded hard, “Yeah.”

“OMG, where are they going? I will never miss this. You guys want to follow me?” Jessica stands up and asks both of her friends. Once again, both GD and Sunye shake their head, in unison. “Oh, by the way, I actually asked if you guys want anything because I’m going to the cafeteria. But, now,change plan. Bye guys.”

And like a flash, Jessica is nowhere to be seen in the class. Looking at each other, finally GD and Sunye let out their big sigh, showing how relieved they are. But one thing they’re not aware of, Jaejoong who is just behind Sunye looks at both of them, suspiciously.

 

 

After a while, Jessica is coming back to her seat, looking all gloomy. Eyeing her friend, Sunye turn her chair to face Jessica. “What happened? Do you get something new?”

Pouting , Jessica just shakes her head sadly, “All I see is just Yoona went to the toilet, while Yoochun going straight to the teachers’ room. What is this?” BANG! Her head is down on her desk, which make Sunye laughs, while Jaejoong just smiles beside her.

“This is why you need to focus on your study, not some random gossip,” laughed Sunye.

“But I know there is something between them. I just know.”

KRING!!!

The bell rings as it is then end of today’s school hours. Everyone started to pack their belongings except for Jessica who is still frustrated. GD then knock her desk just to wake her from her another world. “Hey, I borrow Sohee for today okay. We just need our moment too. You can go home alone, rite?”

Head still on her desk, Jessica just throw her arm in the air and giving signal, meaning just go. “Plus, she’ll meet me for lunch tomorrow too, so it’s good for you to take her today or I might be bored of her already.”

The class gets emptier and Jessica is still putting her head on her desk. It is not like she was so frustrated about the Yoochun-Yoona thing, but it is more like she wanted to relax her mind after all the long-run epic study. After she feels like no one in the class, she put up her head, and to her shocked, Jaejoong is still next to her, watching straight into her eyes. As much as she tried to ignore him, she cannot control her own heartbeat. Acting like nothing really affect her, she close her book and tried to clean up her desk.

While Jaejoong, who is already aware that he might receive this cold treatment from Jessica, just smiles. He puts a tiny light blue box on Jessica’s desk although Jessica seems to never care about it.

“This is maybe the last thing that I can give you,” Jaejoong let out a sigh. “I hope you accept it although it maybe not much.” Jaejoong then pauses again while Jessica is still busy packing. “Take it as a thank you gift, for being my friend, or enemy or whatever you want to call it. I believe at this state, we will never talking to each other again.”

Jaejoong immediately take his bag and walk out from the class. Trying to control his emotion, he walks as fast as possible to the front gate and stand at the hidden corner. Although his heart broke into pieces, but he is still not able to let Jessica walks home alone. ‘This is the last day Jaejoong. Promise yourself that this is the last one.’

On the other hand, Jessica looks densely the tiny box, not knowing whether to take it or not. Finally, her right hand grabs the box and throws it into her bag. Although she acted like she is not listening to him, but every words that come out from his mouth just straightly stab into her heart as the painful feeling keep appearing. ‘Be strong Jessica. Stop being the weak one. Stop showing your weaknesses’.

Sohee walked around Jessica’s room while waiting for her friend to get shower. As she sit on Jessica’s bed, her eyes catch a square tin box with a ribbon on its top that is on the rack. Curious about it, she takes it and open the tin box and at the same time, Jessica is already out from the bathroom.

“What is it?” Sohee asked.

“Oh, some random puzzle I got.”

“From who?” and Jessica just shrugs as her answer. “Why don’t you put this together yet. And oh, its look like it has some message on the back side too. Look.”

Sohee shows Jessica how the one piece on the puzzle has a weird black ink behind it but Jessica just look at it as if she didn’t care at all.

“By the way, why suddenly a lunch?” Jessica tried to change the topic and continue fixing her hair.

“Well, I want to get something for Jaehyo after a lunch so I want you to go with me. His birthday is coming soon,” answered Sohee as she put back all the puzzle in the box and put it beside Jessica’s bed.

Jessica looks at Sohee confusedly and smirk, “Since when did you care for your brother? Remember that you even treat to kill me if I ask about him. Now a birthday present? I’m impressed.” Jessica laugh and turn back to look at the mirror.

“Well, he gave me one for my past birthday, so, maybe I should too,” answered Sohee.

Jessica smiles and walk to pick a bag, “Well, that’s good to hear that. Come on.” She walked toward the door, followed by Sohee.

Both of them walked together toward their destination and they keep talking about a random thing that happened in school.

“So, what are you thinking about the present? What does he like?” asked Jessica who is really excited about Jaehyo’s present.

“I don’t know,” answered Sohee.

“What? You live in the same house yet you don’t know…..” but before Jessica could finish her sentence, they have been disturbed by a male voice coming from their back.

“Jessica. Is that you?”

Facing their back, Jessica’s jaw dropped as she saw a very familiar face.

“Heechul? Kim Heechul?” she asked shockly and the guy just smile. “OMG! It’s been a while rite? Oh, by the way, this is Sohee. Sohee-ah, this is Heechul. Remember I told you about my best friend during my first year? This is him.” And both of them exchange their greets.

“SICA-AHHH, SOHEE-AHH!!” From afar, they heard their names been called by another very familiar voice.

“GD? What are you doing here?” Jessica asked as GD approached them. She then looks at Sohee for explanation either she is the one who invite GD or not. Sohee just shake her head, meaning she doesn’t know anything.

“Well, my mom asked me to buy some groceries for her,” explain GD while looking a bit awkward.

“Ah, GD ah. You remember him? Heechul. Our classmate during the 1^st year,” Jessica excitedly asks GD who is still smiling awkwardly.

“Yeah….” And that is all he can think as the answer.

“By the way, it’s lunch hour already. Why don’t we have out lunch together,” invited Heechul who is following Changmin’s plan.

“Yeah, Sohee and I are also planning to have our lunch. Lets go eat together,” Jessica cannot even hide her excitement to meet her old friend.

“Er, I don’t think I can join you. If I am late, I’m sure my mom will immediately kill me,” GD gave his excuse.

“Then I go with GD oppa. Plus we’re going to the same destination. And I think GD can help me with Jaehyo’s gift too since he’s a guy, y’know,” Sohee then grab GD’s arm. “You just met your old best friend, Sica. I believe you have lots to talk about. Just go have lunch together, I don’t want to disturb it.”

“But…”

“Lets go oppa.” Sohee then drags GD harshly as she wanted to escape the awkward situation there.

“YAHH!! Come back!!” Sohee and GD then run after they heard the shouting Sica.

Jessica then looks at a guy next to her and smile forcefully, “Hehe. I’m sorry for that.” And Heechul just smiles. “Lets go.”

 

 

 

After placing the orders, Jessica keep asking Heechul about his new school, his new place and everything about him. Heechul just answer her as his head is still thinking about how to tell her the truth.

“How about your friends there? I bet you will never find any friend that is cuter than me, rite?” Jessica laughed as she wants to make the awkward feeling disappear. It has been a long time ago that she last met Heechul. So to act like they did before is quite impossible to her.

“Haha, yeah. It is quite true. Oh, how about Jaejoong? It has been a while since I met him. Why don’t we invite him here?” suggested Heechul.

“He’s fine.”

And the waitress come to their table and put all their food in front of them. As the waitress walks away, Heechul tried to bring up the Jaejoong issue.

“Why don’t you call him now?”

“Actually, we’re not in the good term anymore. I don’t even have his number now,” Jessica looks down for awhile and lightens up again. “Forget about him, lets talk about you. Do you have any girlfriend now? I bet you have. Look at you now. You grow up so wall.”

“Is it about that case, 2 years ago? The blackboard incident?” Heechul asked in a serious manner.

Jessica then shut as she doesn’t know how to react.

“Is it?” Heechul asked her again.

“Well, maybe. It is maybe the first course of this whole fight. But then, so many things happened after that and finally end up become like this. “ Jessica let out a big sigh. “Can we skip this topic?”

“We cannot.”

And Jessica just look straight at Heechul’s face, stunned. “What do you mean?”

“Because the one who wrote those hateful things on the blackboard that day, is me. Not Jaejoong.”

For almost a minute, Jessica just look at Heechul blankly, and his voice keep echoing in her head.

“What… what did.. what did you mean by that?” she finally asked him.

“I’m sorry.”

“Explain…..please,” Jessica looks like she lost of words.

“You know how much I liked you before, rite. I even confess to you and you rejected me. And suddenly, I saw his note book and he wrote your name in it,” Heechul paused and smile lightly. “He seems to like you a lot. Your name was on every page of his notebook. And you seem to like him too. You know how you went Jaejoong this, Jaejoong that in front of me. I being childish, I just got mad. I know I should be happy for both of you. You guys are my best friends. But I cannot help it. I’m afraid you will ignore me if you become his girlfriend. I’m afraid that I will be left alone. I know I was wrong, I’m sorry, Jessica.”

And for a moment, both of them just shut their mouth and don’t even know how to respond.

“It’s okay,” finally, Jessica breaks the silent and tries to smile. “It’s already in the past.” She let out a sigh again and looks at Heechul who keep facing down. “But if it was you, why did he take all the blame?”

“I don’t know.  But I think maybe he knew from the beginning that it was me. Plus, I told him once that I like you, so maybe because of that.”

Jessica then sigh, thinking about it. “Can we…… stop talking about it already and enjoy our meals? It is already in the past. Plus it cannot change anything.”

“It can. You can fix it Jessica. You and Jaejoong can become friends again.”

“We cant.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s too late. He hates me now.”

What did he means? We’ll never talk to each other again? Seriously? Ahhh, he must really hate me so much now.

Wait, phone! Where is his number, where is his number. I cannot let this happened. Wait, I deleted it already. You stupid. Why did you delete it. Why??!!

Stop it Sica. Calm yourself.

Eh, wait a minute. He lied to you Sica. He lied to you about the YM thing, remember. He just makes a fool out of you. You shouldn’t forgive him easily.

But he did that because he wanted to befriend with me, rite?

No, Sica. Straighten your mind. He did that because he thinks you’re a fool.

But, he already said he was sorry.

So you want to easily forgive him so that he can lie to you again? Plus, he is the one who let go of you 2 years ago. He took all the blame. He chose to take blame rather than saving our friendship.

Then I smacks my head to the pillow, hard and shake all the positive and negative thoughts out of my mind..

“Why are you looking so happy today?” Sohee asked as I walk out from my house and walk to school with her.

“Nothing. It’s just day today will be a good day,” I smile. ‘Sohee-ah, I want to solve everything with him today. Just cheer for me okay.’ As much as I want to tell her that, butlet just keep it for myself first.

“Are you in the situation where you can be happy like this? This is the first time I met people who love Monday morning this much,” Sohee answered as she shakes his head. “Or did you heard about it already?”

“About what?”

“Nothing.”

Come to think about it, Sohee looks a bit weird today. I know there is something in her mind.

“Yah Ahn Sohee. We promise not that we tell each other everything, rite?”

“I know.”

“Then….”

“But this is different.” Sohee tried to avoid eye contact with me and OMG, did I miss anything?

“Is it about GD?”

“Then about what?”

And Sohee just run upstairs to go to her class in the 2^nd floor, leaving me alone, walking to my class.

But I don’t dare to ruin my happy mood so I just sit at my place and suddenly Tiffany come running from the back door to my place.

“Oh, wae Fany-ah?” I asked, out of curiosity. And I don’t really know when, but Yuri, Sooyoung, Taeyeon and Kangin now come to my place to make some group discussion or something similar to that.

“Have you heard the news?” she asked as she sits on Jaejoong’s chair.

“Jaejoong is gone,” Kangin whispering but the crowd still can hear him.

“Gone? What do you mean by ‘gone’?”

“He’ll move out from this school. I mean, from this country,” Taeyeon answered as my heart keep beating fast after hearing it.

“Wh..a…What?!!”

“Oh, his dad got an offer to work in Japan. Don’t you know about it? I thought he’ll tell you about this,” Tiffany said as her face look so sad.

“He should have told us sooner. So that we can set up a farewell or something,” sigh Yuri as she looks a bit frustrated.

‘NO!!!!!!’ I really want to shout but it is just didn’t come out of my mouth. How could you Jaejoong? How could you?

“I.. I.. Excuse me.. I need to.. go to the toilet….” and I just get up from my chair and run to the toilet. Tears keep flowing down my tears and my feet keep running toward the toilet.

“Jaejoong-a… Jaejoong-ah” It is the only word that comes out from my mouth. I cannot think about anything else except him.

“Sica-ah, are you okay?” Sunye just popped out from somewhere and I just went straight to hug her.

Tears still keep flowing as I bam my face onto her shoulder. “He is not coming to me anymore. He is not beside me anymore.”

“Calm down, Sica. Calm down.”

Yuri, Taeyeon, Sunmi and Sooyoung suddenly join us in the toilet and tried to calm me down.

“It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault.”

“No Sica. Don’t blame yourself,” Taeyeon slides her hand on my back, tried to calm me.

“Maybe… maybe this is our fate. We can never be together.”

And suddenly all the girls hug me, making it a group and I don’t know why, but I cried even harder.

 

 

 

The whole school hour was spent with me looking outside the window. It is quite a bonus that nowadays, there are only self-study rather than a teaching lesson. if not, I might get some problem with Mrs Park again. My friends tried to calm me but nothing really help. Not even the Yoochun-Yoona-study-together thing can interrupt me. And yes, the empty sit beside me is really not helping that much.

Just when I look at the empty chair, suddenly Youngbae come to sit on it just because the place is just behind Sunye. He comes to ask Sunye some question but I just look straight at him.

“Get up.”

He looks blankly at me. “Wait, I just want to ask her some question.”

“I said GET UP!!”

And that makes GD, Sunye and Youngbae, the only ones who heard me look shock.

“Sica-ah, are you okay?” Sunye asked me.

“It’s Jaejoong’s chair.” And once again, my tears drop, thinking about how he will never sit next to me again.

Youngbae, who startled at my reaction just get up and take his own chair and drag it beside Sunye’s table.

And me? Continue looking at our school ground, outside the window.

 

 

 

 

“Omma, I’m home,” I just slowly ‘shout’ and don’t even care if my mom heard it or not. I climb the stairs and slowly open the door then slam my body on the bed. But suddenly, my hand just accidently smacks something and ‘BANG’ the tin box fall on the floor. All the puzzle pieces just everywhere on the floor and make me sigh more. Looking blankly at all of them, I decided to give it a try, just to make me stop thinking about at least, for a few minutes.

I pull out the thin square plate under my bed and start putting all the pieces together on the plate. Starting from the edge, I start to put them together. And after a while, I realize what picture it is.

This…. This… This is the picture we take together before the musical play during the Teachers’ Day.

But then, where is this one. One piece is missing. Where is it, where is it?

I tried to look under the bed, inside the box and also at the area where the box fall.

I grab my school bag and take out everything from it and there you are. You tiny blue box. As I open the box, and just like what in my mind. The last piece of the puzzle is in there. And to make my heart beat even faster, it is his face. The last piece is the ne that have his face on it.

I put the last piece on the plate and look at it for I don’t know how long. Eh, isn’t Sohee said that there is something written in the back. How can I look at it?

I tried to find another plate but it is useless since I only have one. I run to my study table and take my sketch pad and put it on the puzzle. After flip it and take out the plat, for I don’t know how many times already, my tears flow, very fast.

Suddenly, all the guts come into me. All the strength that I lost once I heard about him moving out is coming back to me.

You cannot lose him Jessica. You just cannot lose him anymore.

I run as fast as I can to Jaejoong’s house and don’t even care what other people will say. I need to let him know. Although he will left me here, I just need to let him know. I love you Jaejoong. I really am.

 

Reaching the gate, I ring the bell as many times as I want. Please don’t leave yet. Please don’t leave yet.

“Who is that?” now I can hear the familiar voice asking.

“Jaejoong, is that you? Open the gate Jae. It’s me, Jessica.”

And as the gate automatically open, I ran toward the front door just to see Jaejoong already waiting for me with the door open.

“What happened?” he asked me but all I want to do is to hug him.

I hug him tightly and cry as much as I want.

“What happened, Sica? Is something wrong?” he keeps asking.

“Please don’t leave me. Please don’t leave me.” I keep crying in his arm as his face look a bit confused.

“Who? Who want to leave you?” he takes my shoulder out from his arm and looks straight at me. “Tell me, Jessica. What is actually happening?”

“They said… they said you’ll move out to Japan. Please don’t leave me. I’m sorry for everything.” And Jaejoong just look straight into my eyes. “I’m sorry Jaejoong-ah. I…I..actually,… I like you… a lot. I like you from the moment we met. I really really like you. Please don’t go.”

Jaejoong then smile at me, lightly. “I don’t really know what you’re talking about. But, Japan? No. I am not moving out. I will still be here.”

“But they said you’ll be moving to Japan. The whole class…no, even Fany said that too. Then why are you not going to school today?” I asked, as Jaejoong tried to wipe away my tears.

“Diarrhea problem.”

“Mom, I’m back… with some friends.” Changmin shouted as he enters his house.

“Oh, welco… Oh, did you just bring the whole school here?” his mom look surprised as Seohyun, Sohee, Sunye, GD, Taeyeon, Sunmi, Kangin, Yuri, Sooyoung, Sungmin, Yunho, Youngbae, Yoona, Siwon, Eunhyuk, Hyoyeon, Tiffany, Yoobin, Top, Junsu and Yoochun are following Changmin.

“Haha, well, we’ll be in my room. So we wont disturb you.” Changmin laugh as he leads the others toward his room.

Sungmin, the last one to enter the room then shut the door as the others tried to find a better spot.

“Are you sure we can see them through this window?” Sooyoung asked as she already in front of the window.

“Yeah, see. That’s Jaejoong’s gate. Our house is just opposite to each other, so, it is the best spot to stalk,” answered Changmin.

“OMG, it is so crowded here. Yah, why don’t you build a bigger room?” asked Seohyun, bluntly.

“Yeah, now it is my fault that my room is too small for 22 people,” answered Changmin sarcastically.

“Wait, what is this Enulose  bottle?” asked Yoona who is holding a small white bottle. “And it is empty? Why do you still keep empty bottle?”

Changmin suddenly smile and grin, “Hehe, that is what I put in Jaejoong’s drink last night. It’s actually a good medicine if you have a chronic constipation. One you drink it, the constipation is gone. But for a normal healthy people to eat it, hehehe.”

“Diarrhea!” Youngbae shout.

“But how much did you put it in?” Yoona asked.

“All.”

And suddenly all eyes are on Changmin.

“You guys are crazy,” Sohee shakes her head.

“YAH!! You want your friend to die, rite?” Sunye asked.

“Nah, it wont kill people,” answered Changmin, looking a bit confident.

“Guys, Sica is here!!! Look!!” Yuri then pointed out at Jaejoong’s gate and everyone was like pushing each other just to get to see what happening outside the window.

“YAH CHANGMIN!! WHY YOUR WINDOW IS SO SMALL?!!” Taeyeon shouted as she was left behind because of her height.

“Now it is even my fault that my window is a normal size for a bedroom,” Changmin then smirk.

“OMG OMG OMG, SHE JUST WENT IN!!” Yoobin shouted. “AND JAEJOONG LEFT THE GATE OPEN!!”

“Lets go guys. Lets go to them and see what happened,” suggested Kangin and in the blink of ayes, Changmin’s room was left empty.

“Diarrhea problem,”

“Eh?” Jessica looks a little bit confuse. “So, you’re not moving?”

And Jaejoong shake his head. Suddenly a cheer sound from the gate comes nearer and nearer and both of them can see their friends are coming toward them.

“Congratulation guys!!!”

“Finally, after all,…”

Stop being stubborn guys…”

and all of their friends keep talking, mostly congratulate him.

“So this is all you doings?” asked Jaejoong and all of them are going “Hehehe”

“Don’t tell me about this diarrhea thing is also…” before Jaejoong could end it, all of them suddenly pull an i-know-nothing face and act like nothing happened. “Really….”

“Guys, I think we’re not supposed to be here,” Sunye said as she is still smiling.

“Yeah, let leave the lovey-dovey couple to have their moment together,…Ang~~ “ Taeyeon then smack Junsu who is next to her.

“Lets go guys!” GD shouted and all of them suddenly disappear.

“Stupid friends,” Jessica blush as she knew that all of it are just a prank.

“Hehe, at least they make me know that someone here really really likes me,” Jaejoong smiles and Jessica just blush. “But you know what, I think they’re psychics people.”

“Wae,” asked Jessica.

“How did they know that my dad got a new job offer?”

“……” Jessica’s smile suddenly gone.

“They even know my dad accept that offer,”

“…..”

“I seriously think they’re psychics.”

“……”

“Although it is not Japan but instead it is just a little nearer to our house than before, but the fact that they know about it is just a WOW.” Jaejoong then look at Jessica who is nearly want to cry.

And suddenly, “UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! DON’T MAKE ME SCARED LIKE THAT AGAIN!!!”

Jaejoong then laughs as he hugs her again, “Even if it is true that my dad needs to move to Japan or anywhere else in this world, but I will always be here, next to you forever. I love you, Jessica.”
